I Will Block You From Using Any Road I Constructed – Wike Tells Akpabio

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has threatened to bar Godswill Akpabio, the minister of Niger Delta Affairs, from using a road Rivers government is constructing.

Mr Wike accused the minister of reneging on his pledge to contribute to the road construction.

“As I speak, you have not brought one naira,” the governor told Mr Akpabio. “Meanwhile, the road is almost 35 per cent ready. If you don’t pay, I’ll make sure you do not use that road to your headquarters. Because, yes, I’m not a Father Christmas.”

The governor revealed that there was an agreement between his government, the NDDC, and the Niger Delta Affairs on how to contribute to the construction.

“Mr Minister, (Akpabio), you are here. You and the MD. You told me in the Government House that you will partner the state government. You said you would bring N2.5 billion, and the state will bring N2.5 billion for the dualisation of the bypass,” Mr Wike said at the inauguration of the Muhammadu Buhari Nigeria Police Protection Unit, an NDDC 68 flats project in Port Harcourt.

Vice president Yemi Osinbajo was in Port Harcourt on Tuesday to inaugurate the project and other facilities.

Photo: Air Peace Arrest Customer For Exposing Poor Service

The management of Air Peace has arrested two customers at the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, after exposing the airline’s poor service.

Dozens of passengers on Tuesday heavily criticised the airline for delaying the Lagos-Abuja flight from 07:20 p.m. to past 11:00 p.m.

Multiple videos on social media saw passengers lamenting the delay.

Shortly after the videos were shared on social media and several people expressed disappointment over Air Peace’s service, the management called for the arrest of the customers and seized their tickets.

One of them, Lagos-Abuja flight was arrested for capturing the moment customers ranted about their service and shared it on social media.

Ms Okafor explained that while she took the video of customers’ outbursts, one of the airline’s employees immediately told her that she would not be allowed to board.

“They said they asked me not to take videos, and they have people of my age at home and will deal with me,” she stated.

Ms Okafor added, “I was making reservations for another flight when they asked me to get into their van, and they said they were taking us to ‘Tango’ and gave us a form to fill. They threatened to deal with us and charge us to court today (Wednesday).”

She alleged that her boarding pass was seized.

Another individual, Samuel Paul, told Peoples Gazette that the airline initially delayed the flight for 40 minutes, then to 50 minutes, and Air Peace made no other comment until past 11:00 p.m.

“The fight was scheduled for 07:20, later they rescheduled it for 40 minutes, then to 50 minutes and later they didn’t even say anything, they just kept mute,” he said.

Mr Paul explained that the aircraft eventually arrived around 11:00 p.m., but passengers were informed that the pilot had closed for the day and “they have to go look for another pilot and people began shouting.”

He stated that the airline prevented him from boarding the flight after he “went physical” with a male Air Peace worker who did nothing about the situation.

“I asked the man why he was not doing anything, and when he didn’t respond, I pushed him in the face for not saying anything,” Mr Paul admitted. “They called the attention of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, and they arrested me and the lady and left us here without any comment from them.”

Air Peace is often criticised for flight delays.

Aviation minister Hadi Sirika had directed airlines to reimburse passengers after a two-hour delay and provide refreshment and telephone calls or text messages for delays beyond one hour.

Air Peace flouted the directives on July 13 by delaying passengers’ flights for five hours without apologising. Scheduled to depart Lagos airport by 8:30 p.m., the flight did not take off until 11:05 p.m.

2023 Election: Northern Governors, Emirs Meet In Kaduna, Reject Power-shift To Southern Nigeria

Governors from the Northern states on Monday condemned the resolution of their southern counterparts on the zoning of the presidency in 2023, describing it as unconstitutional.

“The Forum unanimously condemn the statement by the Southern Governors Forum that the Presidency must go to the South,” the northern governors said in meeting with northern emirs.

As the 2023 general elections draw nearer, there have been reging controversies over zoning of presidency after the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari.

While the northern region aims to retain power, the south governors have resolved that power cannot return to the north in 2023.

In July, the 17 southern governors across all political parties unanimously agreed that the next president must emerge from the region. They argued that there must be “rational, Justice, and fairness” in the zoning of the presidency.

“The Forum reiterates its commitment to the politics of equity, fairness and unanimously agrees that the presidency of Nigeria be rotated between Southern and Northern Nigeria and resolved that the next president of Nigeria should emerge from the Southern Region,” the southern governors had said.

But the northern forum, in a communique issued by its chairman Simon Lalong, argued that the southern governors’ stance contradicts the Nigerian constitution.

“The Forum observed that some Northern States Governors had earlier expressed views for a power-shift to three Geo-Political Zone in the South with a view to promoting unity and peace in the Nation,” the governors said.

“The statement is quite contradictory with the provision of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999) as amended that the elected President shall score the majority votes; score at least 25% of the votes cast in 2/3 States of the Federation. In the case of a run-up, a simple majority wins the election,” the forum added.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the southern forum, Rotimi Akeredolu, last week restated that the presidency cannot return to the north, as the governors, irrespective of their political parties, had a resolution.

“If we have anything that we have agreed, that we have unanimity, it is the issue of the president in 2023. All of us, irrespective of our political party; there are three political parties that are in the Southern Governors Forum,” Mr Akeredolu said while he featured on Channels Television programme

Even With The Way Bandits Are Killing Northerners, They Are Happy Buhari Is In Power – Former Governor, Sule Lamido

Former  Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa says northerners are happy with the APC regime despite wanton violence ravaging the North because President Muhammadu Buhari is one of their own.

“We see Nigeria as at my own time, ‘our own son’, ‘our own tribe and whatever he does’… I mean, people in the North are dying every day. We are not safe or secure,” Mr Lamido said in an interview with Channels TV on Sunday night.

“You can’t even travel from Abuja to Kaduna and feel safe, and just because he is our own son, we are happy. When we are dying, we are happy because Buhari is our own son.”

When asked for his views on Boko Haram and bandits ravaging the North-East and North-West respectively, Mr Lamido, who has a pending case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), blamed increased insecurity on political leaders’ insincerity.

“It is this culture of telling lies to citizens during elections. When you raise their hope, by the time you come to government and fail to fulfil their needs, of course, you are going to be in trouble,” the ex-governor explained. “So these are some of the policy consequences of telling lies in campaigns. Leaders are not honest, sincere, and there is nothing called justice.”

Bandits have ravaged the North-West, kidnapping and killing several people, forcing schools to close many weeks.

Mr Buhari’s home state, Katsina, is one of the most ravaged northern parts by bandits and frustrated by the continued kidnapping and killing, Governor Aminu Masari in July called on residents to defend themselves.

Mr Masari advised the state’s residents and other Nigerians to fight bandits with their teeth and not wait for Mr Buhari’s regime to protect them.

“It is important for you to fight your enemy, even with your teeth bite him. Where are the warriors? I don’t understand our people these days. What they should be doing is not what they are doing,” Mr Masari said in the Hausa language.

He added, “You are waiting for brigadier somewhere to come, or soldiers and policemen or even fighting (sic) jet, is it not possible, they will do their work, but we need to join hands together.”

Silence Biafra, Yoruba Nation Agitators – VP Osinbajo Tells Nigeria Press

The regime of President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the press to support it in silencing secessionist agitators pushing for Nigeria’s breakup.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo made this appeal on Monday while hosting the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by its President, Chris Isiguzo, in the Presidential Villa.

He said the press should “moderate the kinds of views that we hear constantly; which in the end, (if care is not taken) subverts the polity.”

In a statement by his spokesperson, Laolu Akande, the vice president boasted that while the poor masses will suffer, the elites in the country will survive a possible breakup of Nigeria.

“If this country breaks up in any way or becomes the subject of what some people would like it to be, all of us will lose out. The elite will survive in any way, but the vast majority of our people will not,” Mr Osinbajo said.

He said Nigerians cannot afford a situation where the “country is made the theatre of conflict and all sorts of insurgencies and crimes.”

Mr Osinbajo further urged the media to collaborate with the government to prevent secessionist agitators from gaining the upper hand against the regime.

He called on the press to work with the Buhari regime to protect the information space so that “people who want to subvert the republic are not allowed to do so.”

Taliban Ban Barbers From Shaving, Trimming Men’s Beards In Afghanistan, Say It’s Un-Islamic

The Taliban have warned barbers in Helmand province in Afghanistan to desist from shaving or trimming beards.

The Taliban said shaving off beards breaches their interpretation of Islamic law.

In a report by BBC, the Taliban police said anyone caught violating the rule will be severely punished.

According to the report, in a notice posted on salons in southern Helmand province, the Taliban officers warned that hairdressers must follow Sharia law for haircuts and beards.

Some barbers in the capital of the country, Kabul have said they also received similar orders.

“No one has a right to complain,” the notice reportedly read.

The instructions suggest a return to the strict rulings of the group’s past tenure in power, despite promises of a milder form of government.

The Taliban have promised an inclusive government and a more moderate form of Islamic rule than when they last ruled the country from 1996 to 2001.

During their last reign, men were required to grow beards while the women were made to wear an all-encompassing burqa, covering both their hair and face.

Music was banned to prevent the promotion of vulgarity, while citizens could only listen to religious chants.

The Taliban also banned television and cinema, and some electronic products were outlawed as un-Islamic.

The latest development suggests an imposition of former Islamic laws that governed their past tenure.

A barber was quoted as saying the Taliban enforcers keep coming to their shops to monitor them.

“The fighters keep coming and ordering us to stop trimming beards,” a barber in Kabul reportedly said.

“One of them told me they can send undercover inspectors to catch us.”

The barbers reportedly said the new rules are making it hard for them to make a living.

In August, Taliban fighters quickly captured most of Afghanistan last month and celebrated the departure of the last U.S. forces after 20 years of war.

Since then, they have carried out harsh punishments on opponents. On Saturday, the group’s fighters shot dead four alleged kidnappers and their bodies were hung in the streets of the western city of Herat.

You Have 30days To Leave Yoruba Land – Masked Oyo Indigence Tells Fulanis, Hausa and Their Cattle

Some masked men from Oyo State have issued a 30-day ultimatum to Fulani and Hausa people to leave all parts of Yorubaland.

They also said the herders among them should leave along with their cattle.

The 30 days started counting from Saturday, September 25, 2021.

This was contained in a video obtained by SaharaReporters on Saturday. Some of the men were clad in Yoruba Nation vests.

Their leader, who identified himself as Sunday Oyo, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to advise “his people” to leave Yorubaland within a month or face the consequences of disobedience, which they said might be gruesome.

The young man noted that though the Nigerian government was able to ensure the arrest of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho, he, Sunday Oyo is different.

Igboho was arrested in Benin Republic in July while he and his wife were trying to travel to Germany. He has since been detained in the country.

However, Oyo said: “We are using this opportunity to warn President Muhammadu Buhari that he should immediately evacuate all Fulanis and Hausas from Yorubaland.

“We don’t want to have a relationship with you, let everyone go their separate ways. The torture is too much, let’s have our nation, and you have your nation, and be careful or else…

“We give you 30 days to leave Yorubaland generally. You have arrested Sunday Igboho, I am Sunday Oyo, we will deal with you. After 30 days, whatever your experience is, you should accept it as your fate.”

US Government Gathers 2,700 Electronic Files, 6,700-page Documentary Evidence For Kyari’s Case

The United States government has gathered over 2,700 electronic files as part of evidence for trial in the $1.1million fr*ud case involving suspended police officer, Abba Kyari, a court filing has shown.

Other sets of investigative reports and “new discoveries,” including documents obtained from foreign law enforcement agencies with over 6,700 pages, are being processed by prosecutors, the document also says.

According to Premium Times, the US government has already handed to the defence approximately 2.31 GB of data consisting of 2,707 electronic files. The files contain, among others, exported chat logs, Cellebrite reports, WhatApp messages, audio recordings, and other social media content.

The application added that prosecutors were processing approximately 6,773 pages of additional discovery expected to be produced in two weeks’ time.

US prosecutors along with three of the six indicted defendants in the fr*ud case have asked the U.S. District Court for Central California to postpone trial from October 2021 to May 17, 2022.

Apart from the need for additional time by the defence lawyers to prepare for the case, US prosecutors also asked for more time to process troves of documents, including those obtained from foreign countries.

For Fairness, Justice, Equity, And Sense Of Togetherness Power Must Shift To South. – PDP Chieftain

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Kano state and one of its national chairmanship aspirant, Comrade Isa Tijani has declared that for Nigeria to sustain its unity, there is need for PDP to zone the 2023 presidential ticket to the South.

Tijani in a chat with reporters in Abuja explained that the measure is required for national stability and cohesion.

While he warned against subterranean moves to zone the presidency to the North, Tijani argued that the PDP stands a good chance of unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress APC if it does not fall into the temptation of jettisoning the zoning arrangement.

“I want it (presidency) to be zoned to the South. South west or South east. Already, we have a fragile polity, we should not give room for people to think that the issue of marginalization is real. In any case, we all as Nigerians have a reason to have the privilege to aspire.

“I want you to cast your memory back. How many times did President Buhari contest for the President? If we really have the numerical strength as put forward, he would have been President earlier. Until people like Tinubu came in and gave the South west support before it became a reality. So I don’t want to go with this gullibility. They should do what is just and needful.”

Tijani justified his aspiration to lead the PDP saying it was in line with the quest to reposition the opposition party ahead of the 2023 polls.

“I am in the race because I want to win. I believe in the PDP and in the sustainability of the corporate entity called Nigeria. Zoning the national chairmanship seat to the South is not in our best interests.

“The position should be zoned to the north because we want the next president to come from the south. I have the experience as a labour activist of many years standing. I have held several responsive positions in the past.

“I have contested elections and even aspired for the presidency through the labour party platform several years ago. We will rebuild the PDP and ensure it retains its long standing reputation as a winning machine”, he added.

Femi Fani-Kayode May Be Taking Drugs, He Likes Stripping People Naked – Former Chef Reveals

A Chef, Koss Edeh who worked with a former Nigerian Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has described the minister’s house as a prison.

Edeh, who worked as a chef from February 2019 to June 2019, said while he was working for the former minister, he physically assaulted all his domestic workers, including his wife (now ex-wife).

In a video, the former chef also expressed the belief that Fani-Kayode might be taking hard drugs, saying it is evident in his character and dealings with those working at his house.

The ex-minister’s former chef who says he’s a Togolese, said he had worked with two ministers before working for Fani-Kayode. According to him, he regrets ever working with the former minister.

He said, “My name is Koss Edeh, former chef. I started work with Chief in February 2019 and left in June 2019. I was paid N5, 000 per meal. There was a time I served him and he said the cooler wasn’t full, he asked why am I reducing his food, that can my father buy food here?

“He asked me to go on my knees, I did. He said he’d kill me and hang me, I said sorry sir. He said he’d deal with me. He called the bodyguard, the man held me and chief started slapping me, said which plans do I have for him. The man tore my clothes, said he will kill me because I’ve started changing and his cooler is no longer full. He asked me to go and start doing frog jump.

“He did it again. He just returned from a journey and complained of the size of meat. He beat me, tore my clothes and Madam came out and asked what happened. I explained to her. The madam called the bodyguard and said I’m old enough to birth him. She is the one that usually pleads my cause, if not for madam, FFK would have killed me in that house.

“Fani-Kayode paid me for only three months but two months’ salaries are still with them. I left on pretence, I did as if I wanted to go and buy something from a store, I pretended as if I wasn’t feeling well because that house is something else. Those of us inside are like prisoners, the gate never opens, I pleaded with the policeman before he allowed me to go out and I ran away. I pretended as if I wanted to get drugs.

“My clothes, bags and everything, I left them there, I didn’t carry anything. My own case is even better. For some people, he will invite police officers to arrest them, the officers won’t even ask what had happened, theirs is just to collect money. They are for the money. They are not interested in knowing what has happened.

“If not for madam, we’d have died. Many people left their things there. He likes stripping people naked, that’s his job.

“I have worked with two ministers before Fani-Kayode, I have worked with Tom Ikimi, former minister of foreign affairs, I have worked with Sam Odeh, former Niger Delta minister, we gist but this one (FFK), I’m tired. I have never seen a minister that behaves like Fani-Kayode. I worked with him for only five months.

”He beats his wife like a goat, if you see her, you’ll know something has happened to her. He’ll beat her, she’ll be covered in blood. Any day he beats her like that, we hide from him.

“He had once beaten a maid that she landed in the hospital. No one believed she could survive.

“Fani-Kayode sexually harasses ladies who work for him, it’s an occupation for him. Fani-Kayode’s house is a house of crime. You get punished for doing nothing. It’s a criminal house, it’s like a prison.

“I believe Fani-Kayode takes hard drugs though I haven’t caught him with such but then you don’t expect him to use it in our presence.”

Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Gumi May Be A Spy For Bandits – Oodua Peoples Congress Says

The Oyo State chapter of the Oodua Peoples Congress under the leadership of Iba Gani Adams, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, has said the unexpected visit of an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi to Igboho, a town in Oyo State is an affront to the entire Yoruba nation.

Addressing journalists during the weekend, Rotimi Olumo, the coordinator of the OPC in Oyo State, said Gumi outstepped his boundary and warned him to steer clear of all parts of the South-Western region of Yoruba land.

According to Olumo, Gumi’s visit poses a big security threat to the entire Yoruba nation because they did not see any reason or interest it serves, rather than to make a mockery of the people in the South West.

He argued that the verbal attack by Gumi and his entourage on Igboho was a clear manifestation that they were there to ridicule and provoke Yoruba people in their domain, which the OPC frowned upon.

He said the Yoruba Nation did not need the assistance of someone like Gumi to protect “our people” as adequate measures have been put in place to secure the region.

Olumo noted that it should be remembered that he was the one who raised the alarm that there were plans to invade Igangan and other parts of Ibarapa by bandits, which eventually took place, and that the visit of Gumi to Igboho called for concern.

He called for adequate vigilance from the people of the entire South-West, saying Gumi could not be trusted.
The OPC argued that Gumi’s visit to the region was suspicious, as it was being insinuated that he could have come as a spy for bandits.

Olumo said the Oyo State executive of the OPC reiterated their unflinching confidence in the leadership of Iba Gani Adams and commended his efforts for the way he has been handling the affairs of his office as the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land and the General Overseer of the OPC, as well as the security of the people of the entire South West.

He said the OPC under the leadership of Iba Gani Adams is prepared for any eventuality in the region, adding that the region is now being closely monitored against any infiltration into the region by bandits and other unscrupulous elements.

The OPC also commended the South-West Governors for their relentless efforts in ensuring peace in the region.

He added that OPC members are law-abiding and ready to work and operate within the ambit of the law and collaborate with all security agencies to ensure the protection of lives and property in the South West.

Olumo also warned Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai that he cannot decide for Yoruba people over the issue of Fulani herdsmen.

He said, “We are battle-ready to resist them. Yoruba land is our fatherland. Oyo OPC is fully ready to resist them.”

Nigerian Rapper Accuses Police Of Stealing Her Car In Lagos

Nigerian rapper Candy Bleakz has accused the police of snatching her car in front of her estate in Lagos.

The rapper said the police took her car away without her consent and never told her where they were taking it to, after searching the car.

She noted that nothing incriminating was found in her car by the police officers.

Candy Bleakz, who revealed this on her Instagram page, also noted that she showed the police all the necessary documents and other proofs that the car belongs to her.

“Nigeria police just collected my car right now in front of my estate; they searched the car, they didn’t see anything inside, they asked for all documents. It’s a new car, I showed them everything needed. But still they took my car away; I’m tracking my car right now and it is on the way to Lakowe.

“They took the car from me at Skymall but now I’m tracking the car and they are driving down to lakowe,” she said.

She explained that three of the policemen involved were on mufti while five others wore police uniform.

“Three of them were on a house wear, and 5 of the rest were in uniform. And we were so scared because these people were just so armed with guns. Apparently, we didn’t remove the key from the car. After they searched thoroughly, and nothing was found in the car, we were talking and the next thing, they already took the car with them and that’s it.

“With the car tracker, I realized that they drove the car all the way to Area J Police Headquarters, Elemoro.

“If not for the tracker, I wouldn’t know where the car is, and I can’t go there without help cus I don’t know what I will meet or what they will say so they won’t lock me up,” she added.

Nigerians Regret Voting Out Jonathan In 2015 To Elect Buhari – Northern Elders Says

The Northern Elders Forum says many Nigerians regret getting rid of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 elections to vote in the incumbent, President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking on Arise TV’s ‘The Morning Show’ breakfast programme, the NEF’s Director of Publicity and Advocacy, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, said Buhari had disappointed millions of Nigerians including members of the All Progressives Congress who trusted in his leadership prior to the poll six years ago.

Baba-Ahmed further said Nigeria needs a President who would act in the “opposite direction” of Buhari in terms of economic policies, security, amongst others.

He said, “Is there any Nigerian who is not disappointed in President Buhari including diehard APC people? Is there anybody who would not tell you he wished President Buhari had done much better?

“We raised huge expectations, we told people, ‘Get rid of Jonathan, put Buhari there, he would fix corruption, he would fix insecurity, he would fix the economy’ (but) look at where we are now.

“How can anybody say they are happy with the record of President Buhari, even the people very close to him would tell you that they wished he could have done much better and he could have done much better and he hasn’t?

“So, what we need to do now is to get ready to elect another President who would go in the opposite direction, a President who has a vision and a clear idea of what governance involves rather than just being a President. So, I am disappointed and that is why today, I am actively involved in trying to see that a new leader emerges in getting Nigerians a new lease of life,” Baba-Ahmed noted.

Goodluck Jonathan was Nigeria’s Vice-President between 2007 and 2010 on the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party.

He later assumed position as the President in 2010 after the death of then-President Umaru Yar’adua.

Jonathan subsequently contested the 2011 presidential election and won but lost his reelection in 2015 to Buhari.

With the 2023 elections approaching, there have been reports that Jonathan would join the APC but the PDP has insisted that the former President would not be leaving the party.

Meanwhile, a powerful delegation of the PDP reached out to former President Jonathan not to abandon the party amid the thickening plot by the ruling All Progressives Congress to field him for the presidency in 2023.

Last week, the National Secretary, APC Caretaker, and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee, John Akpanudoedehe, said that former President Goodluck Jonathan could contest the next Presidential elections in 2023 if he joins the party.

Afghanistan Is Running Out Of Medical Supplies, Fuel – United Nations

Barely one month after the Taliban takeover, the United Nations relief, chief Martin Griffiths, says medical supplies and fuel are running out in Afghanistan.

“Medicines, medical supplies and fuel are running out in Afghanistan,” Mr Griffiths said in a statement on Wednesday.

He disclosed that the UN will be releasing $45 million from its Central Emergency Response Fund “to help prevent Afghanistan’s health-care system from collapse.”

Mr Griffiths warned that “allowing Afghanistan’s health-care delivery system to fall apart would be disastrous,” adding that “People across the country would be denied access to primary health care such as emergency caesarian sections and trauma care.”

Lamenting the non-payment of health workers in the country, he said the funds will be released to the World Health Organisation and UNICEF for NGOs to keep health facilities, including hospitals treating COVID-19 patients, operating until the end of the year.

The UN in September accused the Taliban of killing employees of the previous government, violating the group’s promise to respect the human rights of every Afghan citizen.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, said her office received credible allegations that members of the previous government and their family members were arbitrarily detained and in some cases found dead after being released.

Also in September, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) warned that a major humanitarian crisis was looming in Afghanistan.

His warning came amidst uncertainty about the situation for vulnerable Afghans seeking shelter across the country’s borders.

After taking over power, the Taliban, while declaring amnesty across the country in August, promised to respect the human rights of every Afghan citizen.

Buhari Has Put Northern Nigeria In Serious Trouble – Northern Elders Cries Out

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has said that president Muhammadu Buhari has out the Northerns in serious trouble

The spokesperson for NEF, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed said this during an interview on Arise TV on Tuesday.

According to him, the North’s insistence on having a president from the region in 2015 put it in big trouble.

He noted that Nigeria must move beyond ethnic, regional, and religious sentiments when electing leaders for the country to make progress.

He said, “We have learnt a lesson from the North about this tendency to say ‘only one of our own’. We are in trouble today because one of our own has put us in serious trouble. And if the North doesn’t believe that, they should just look around.

“If we can’t move beyond ethnicity and religion and think of one country and create citizens of equal rights, then I’m afraid all we are going to do is go in circles and keep repeating the same mistakes we are making.

“Leadership has failed Nigerians, not just northerners. What we are trying to say is that ‘don’t let us keep going back’. If this country becomes a hostage of primordial and limiting past, we are in trouble — all of us.”

76-year-old Man Beheaded By Ritual Killers In Oyo, Sells Body Parts For N4000

A76-year-old man, Adeniyi Adebisi Samuel, has been beheaded by some ritual killers in the Akanran area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Parading the suspected ritual killers at the Amotekun headquarters, Dandaru, Ibadan, on Tuesday, the Deputy Commandant of Amotekun in the state, Mr. Akinro Kazeem, said the suspects were arrested following intelligence reports from the members of the public.

Akinro who gave names of the suspects as; Ismail Muraina, Abdlerasheed Olanrewaju, Olalekan Akande explained that Ismail Muraina confessed that he charmed the victim because he saw him as unstable.

He noted that the suspects confessed that they sold human heads based on the size and amount available in the hand on their customers.

According to him, the suspects specialised in selling human part to the ritualists who are in need of human parts between N4,000 and N100,000.

He urged members of the public to continue partnering with the police and other security agencies to reveal activities of the criminals in their respective communities.

One of the daughters of the victim, Mrs Olaosun Olufunke, said her father called her on Sunday morning that Ismail Muraina asked him to meet him to get some money his younger brother and that was the last time he heard about him.

“The man is lying. My dad told me on Sunday morning that Muraina asked him to come and get money for my younger brother and that was the only thing we heard last from him,” she lamented.

ASCSN TRANSACTION: UNITY BANK ACTED WITH AUTHORITY OF CUSTOMER

The attention of the Bank has been drawn to the action of Association of Senior Civil Servant of Nigeria (ASCSN) in Abeokuta.

Going by all available records regarding the ASCSN account and transactions, Unity Bank hereby states that there's completely no wrong doing on the part of the Bank who acted professionally in the interest of the Association.

Till date, the Bank has thus carried out all financial transactions in line with the mandate, instructions and authority of the customer (ie the Association of Senior Civil Servant of Nigeria).

Until proven otherwise, the Bank can therefore not be held liable for any complaints of  ASCSN since the instructions for the transfer of the sum of money totalling N54.8m were duly authorised by the association.

The Bank, in carrying out the transactions sent sms notifications as well as rendered periodic account statements of the financial activity on the account.

The Bank wishes to advise members of ASCSN to await the outcome of the reconciliation to determine if the mandate upon which the Bank acted fails to tally with the authorised signatories submitted by the association.

The CBN is aware of the issues and we held meeting with them last Friday but the people picketing the Bank are merely embarking on a needless smear campaign instead awaiting outcome of the reconciliation process

Governor El-Rufai Reveals Why Population In North Is A Blessing And A Curse

Mallam Nasir El-Rufai governor of Kaduna says the North-West geopolitical zone of the country has human development indices that are closer to those of the Afghanistan.

El-Rufai disclosed this on Tuesday while speaking at the Human Capital Development Communication Strategy meeting organised by the National Economic Council under the chairmanship of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

The governor said the North-West region has the highest number of out-of-school children and the highest poverty rates in Nigeria.

He described the region as one that is troubled and in crisis.

El-Rufai further said that the population of the zone which is the highest in the country is a blessing as well as a curse.

According to him, the North West population is a blessing if the population is kept healthy with the children educated and given skills for the future and a curse if the children are not educated, they are not healthy and they feel hopeless.

Similarly, speaking at the Kaduna Economic and Investment Summit in April, El-Rufai spoke about the backwardness of some northern states.

“Yesterday, the Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness, Muhammadu Sanusi II, made certain observations about the state of northern Nigeria within the larger Nigeria context,” he said.

“Because the truth of the matter is when you look at human development in the indices of Nigeria, they hide a lot of information. They saw us as middle income country, they saw that we are making progress in terms of education and health care.

“But when you disaggregate this number and look at them from zone to zone, from state to state, it is very revealing. It shows for, instance, that some states in Nigeria are as backward as Afghanistan in terms of education, health care and opportunities. And many of the states in the Northwest are afflicted with these challenges.”

Adamu Garba Knocks Buhari, APC For Receiving Femi Fani-Kayode Into Their Party

Former presidential aspirant of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) Adamu Garba, has taken a jab at President Buhari-led administration over the reception of former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, into the party.

Garba who took to his Facebook page on Monday said it is a double standard for “forgiving” Fani-Kayode, and “treating former National Secretary of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Buba Galadima as an outcast.”

Recall that FFK officially defected on Thursday and was presented to President Buhari by the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the APC, and governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

However, reacting to the defection, Garba on his Facebook page tackled the current government for its acceptance of ‘FFK’, as Fani-Kayode is called, back to its fold.

“The real definition of double standard is forgiving FFK and absorbing him back to APC while treating Buba Galadima as an outcast despite his evident historical commitments,” Garba wrote on his known Facebook page on Monday.

How Reckless Police Officer Kills 25-yr-old Man, Few Hours To His Sister’s Wedding.

A 25-year-old man, Moses Adam, has passed after been hit by a ‘stray bullet’ fired by a police officer in Benin City, Edo State.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Friday, September 17, when the deceased, said to be the only son of his parents, arrived Benin from Lagos to attend his sister’s wedding slated for Saturday.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Kontongs Bello, in a statement said Adam was in a bus when he was hit by a stray b*llet fired by an officer who was trying to arrest a m*rder suspect, Ebuka Nwaechie.

“He was rushed to the Edo Specialist Hospital where he gave up the ghost. The erring officer has been arrested and will go through administrative trial that will determine his culpability,” he said.

Police said Nwaechie was allegedly involved in the alleged murder of one Bright Orikose on December 24, 2020. However, Esther, one of Adam’s elder sisters, disagreed with the account. She lamented the attempt by the police to twist the narrative.

“My brother was not killed by a stray bullet as the police claimed. He was aimed at in the second car which Ebuka was not even inside. While treating my brother, the doctor told us that he was hit by a close range bullet and that he lost so much blood before his death,” she said.

According to a report by Foundation For Investigative Journalism (FIJ), the deceased was driving with his friend, Kelvin Uwumunse, when “some police detectives on mufti violently waylaid their cars”

The report said Adam and his friends were unsure of the identity of the people contending the road with them, so they tried to make a detour, but gunshots were fired at them, one of the sh*ts hit Adam in his thigh.

It was gathered that the police afterwards arrested and detained three of Adam’s friends. They also reportedly failed to document the shooting at the station.

“It was after we got to the hospital that the police believed and gave us N120,000 for the treatment,” the family lawyer told FIJ

Abacha’s Seized Properties Must Be Produced – House Of Rep Tells Buhari

The House of Representatives has ordered the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on landed properties to produce reports of all assets seized from former Nigerian leaders, especially that of late military dictator Sanni Abacha.

Ademorin Kuye, chairman of the ad-hoc committee on abandoned properties, said the House wanted a report on all assets seized from former leaders in and out of Nigeria, particularly that of Mr Abacha recovered by the federal government.

Mr Kuye gave this order when the executive secretary of PIC appeared at the committee in Abuja.

“We need to know the state of those properties and to also know if the properties have titles of deed,” he said.

The committee also queried the sale of federal government’s assets held in trust by the PIC, stating that the committee discovered that some of the properties the PIC claimed to have sold were either not sold or paid for, contrary to claims made by PIC.

He added that some of the seized houses which PIC claimed were vacant and still occupied.

He directed PIC to furnish the House committee with up-to-date reports of assets sold, the amount realised from the sales, those yet to be sold and those under litigation.

Mr Kuye asked that PIC state the amount remitted to the federal government from the sales with evidence of remittance, adding that all assets pointed out to the committee but not included in its first report should be forwarded to the House committee.

Responding to Mr Kuye’s submissions, the Executive Secretary, PIC, Bala Samid, said some people occupying government quarters had refused to vacate them.

He added that as soon as the occupants were approached for payment or to vacate the houses, they went to court to obtain injunctions restraining the PIC.

“We approached the federal government to report them, and the federal government said that we should give them time.

“We want to generate money for the federal government, but in the process, we are losing money; somebody is occupying government quarters illegally, and he runs to court to get injunctions,” Mr Samid lamented.

He said PIC was happy when the ad-hoc committee came on board, stressing that it hoped to get its support to get debtors to pay.

I Don’t Know How Much Senators Earn Because I Have Never Received Salary — Ex-Imo State Governor, Okorocha Claim

Former Governor and Senator representing Imo West, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has disclosed that he had never received a dime as salary from the National Assembly, since becoming a Senator, over two years ago.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja, the senator said he denied knowledge of how much in particular, a Senator receives as basic salary or allowances every month.

According to him, the Management of the National Assembly had his express approval from the beginning of his tenure as Senator, to channel his monthly salaries and other allowances into charity, which he said was initially objected to, by the Management.

“I have never received salary as a Senator. Even as a Governor of Imo State, I didn’t draw a penny for the years I spent. I hate public funds. One thing about public funds is that, if you don’t work for it, don’t collect it because it has spiritual implications.

I don’t know how much a Senator earns. But I think the basic salary is around N2m, but allowance is around N3m for housing, then transportation and other allowances put together to be around N10m or N11m, not too sure,” he said.

Nothing Will Happen If Nigeria Has Another Northern President After Buhari – Northern Elders’ Forum Boast

The Northern Elders’ Forum has said that the heavens will not fall if a northerner succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

“We will surprise them in 2023 because we will vote for who we want, including the northerners, and nothing will happen. If we choose to vote for a northerner, the heavens will not fall. We will choose who we want in this country,” said Hakeem Baba-Ahmed at the inaugural edition of the Maitama Sule Leadership Lecture Series held over the weekend.

According to repoert, the group also asserted that northerners would rather live with poverty than being disrespected by southerners as the contention over which geopolitical region should produce the president in 2023 heats up.

“A northerner is a respectable Nigerian. We can live with our poverty, but we cannot live with a sense of disrespect and anybody who toys with our respect. We will fight them to the end,” the NEF spokesman explained.

He urged northern youths to continue to push for a northern Nigeria that determines the country’s direction.

“We inherited the North that determined where Nigeria went. We dropped the ball, and we are leaving you to pick it. The North needs young people to be strong enough,” Baba-Ahmed added.

According to the NEF chief, the north has the numerical strength to decide who becomes the next president in the country.

It Is Very Shameful And Insensitive For You To Receive Political Liability Like Femi Fani Kayode Into APC – Ex-Minister, Dalung Tells Buhari

Former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, says admitting former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, into the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, is both shameful and insensitive.

This is as he also described Fani-Kayode as a “political hawker” and “liability”.

In a statement issued on Friday, Dalung said he was ashamed that Buhari could share a table with someone who had called him a “criminal.”

Part of the statement read, “In the whole of my existence, I have not been ashamed of myself like yesterday (Thursday) when I watched Femi Fani-Kayode standing by the President in the State House in Abuja. I have no problems with people’s political affiliations but I have issues with the manner the confidence and goodwill of Nigerians are being gambled with recklessly by clueless political elites.

“Could recruitment of political liabilities in the face of raving insecurity that has claimed lives of many innocent Nigerians who voted for us be the priority now?

“What has happened to the humanity of APC leaders that we are so insensitive to the mode of the nation? If we have such political strategies of conquering political opponents like Femi Fani-Kayode, then why have we failed to deploy the same to defeat Boko Haram, banditry, unknown gunmen, kidnapping?”

He lamented that the mission of APC that they formed in 2015 had changed, adding that people now joined the party to get “juicy appointments.”

Dalung said, “This wasn’t our mission when we mobilised Nigerians to trust us with power in 2015. The fear of APC is the beginning of wisdom, once a corrupt politician joins APC his sins are forgiven; all corruption charges will be automatically dropped and compensations with juicy appointments will follow.

“Loyalty in the APC party is a capital offence, no wonder Femi Fani-Kayode insulted President Buhari and swore he will prefer to die than joining APC.

“He is now the latest political bride of the President whom he earlier called a “criminal”. If this is what our party can offer at this critical stage of our national history, then Nigeria has entered one-chance.”

We’ll Appeal N20billion Awarded By Court For Sunday Igboho – Attorney-General, Malami

The Federal Government will appeal the judgment of an Oyo State High Court which awarded N20billion in damages against the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the AGF, Abubakar Malami (SAN), announced the decision of the Federal Government to appeal the judgment while speaking on the development in an interview on Friday.

The suit, bordering on breach of fundamental human rights, was brought by the Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, more commonly Sunday Igboho, to the court.

The court, sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, awarded N20billion in damages against the AGF and the DSS over the alleged invasion of the residence of Sunday Igboho on July 1 this year at the Soka area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Malami said that efforts were already being made to commence the process of appealing the judgment.

NAN recalls that Igboho’s Counsel, Mr Yomi Alliyu (SAN), had filed a N500 billion fundamental human rights enforcement suit against the AGF, DSS and Director of the DSS in Oyo State over the incident.

Alliyu also claimed that his client’s house and cars were damaged, while two occupants of the house were killed by security agents during the incident.

But Counsel to the AGF, Mr Abdullah Abubakar, had argued that there was no evidence before the court that the blood seen in the video clip tendered by Alliyu belonged to a human being.

Abubakar also said that there was nothing in the video clip that showed that the house that was invaded belonged to Igboho or linked the AGF with the invasion.

He had urged the court to disregard the exhibits and dismiss the entire suit.

The Counsel to the DSS, Mr T. A. Nurudeen, aligned with the submission made by the counsel to AGF, insisting that there must be proof from a hematologist to show that the blood seen in the video belonged to a human being.

Nurudeen also tendered a video clip which was admitted by the court, where Igboho allegedly threatened to create an Oduduwa Republic, while urging the Yoruba to protect themselves with charms and guns.

However, delivering his judgment, Justice Ladiran Akintola, said the style and procedures adopted by the DSS during the incident was unprofessional.

Akintola said that the applicant had demonstrated to the court that his fundamental right to personal liberty, right to life and blocking of his account amounted to violation of his fundamental rights.

He awarded N20billion as exemplary and aggravated damage in favour of the applicant and N2million cost also in favour of the applicant for instituting the case.
