Wife of the immediate past governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano, Ebelechukwu Obiano, has apologised to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, Ndigbo and friends of Ndigbo over her fight with Bianca Ojukwu, a former ambassador and widow of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu.

She also used the opportunity to declared her intention to join the contest for the forthcoming Anambra North Senatorial District election.

Recall that, Ebelechukwu and Bianca had fought after a heated exchange during the inauguration of Soludo as Anambra governor.

During the heated conversation between the duo, Bianca slapped Obiano’s wife, an incident that caused a commotion at the event.

In a letter addressed to Soludo titled ‘A Public Apology’, Mrs Obiano said, “Permit me to use this medium to humbly convey to you my sincere, heartfelt and unreserved apology for the unfortunate incident between Mrs Bianca Ojukwu and myself on Thursday, March 17, 2022, the day of your inauguration as the new Executive Governor of Anambra State in which you took over from my husband, His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano.

“The incident, to say the least, was most unnecessary, unfortunate and I regret my action. It was an unintended action as violence is never in my character.

“Your Excellency, Sir, I hold your person, your ideals, the records of your great accomplishments in public service in Nigeria and beyond, as well as their concomitant colossal impacts on public policies in the highest esteem.

“Without any equivocation, your achievements as a towering intellectual of national and international repute are enduring legacies and pride for the State and Ndigbo in general.

“I will therefore never deliberately engage in any activity or action to disrespect you and your government. All those who know me can testify that before and throughout my eight years as the First Lady of State, I pursued peace, promoted philanthropic gestures which empowered many of our less privileged people. No excuse can therefore be tenable as justification for such public embarrassment, no matter the height of provocation.

“Equally, I wish to extend the same apology to all the important dignitaries, the people of Anambra State, as well as the entire Ndigbo for that unintended embarrassment at the occasion.

“I want to use this opportunity to pledge that I will wholeheartedly support and pray for the Government of His Excellency, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, to excel exceedingly better than the immediate past government, even as he builds on the legacy of his predecessor, my husband, His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano, and take our dear State to a higher level.

“I consciously chose this medium to express my apology, goodwill, support and prayers publicly to His Excellency, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, as a token of my full respect for him, his family and the entire Ndigbo.”

On her senatorial ambition, she said, “My interest to join the Senatorial race is in response to overwhelming pressure and calls from my people to represent them in the Senate at the National Assembly, Abuja.

“As it has been attested to by the good people of Anambra State, service to people, humanity and sharing love and putting smiles on sad faces are my priority in life, and I know that it is the will of God because the Bible says that God is Love.

“Therefore, having witnessed and been positively touched by my ever-willing disposition to care for people, empower the poor and needy, especially women and children, particularly widows, orphans and the destitute, my people decided that I should come and serve them better in a higher capacity.”

Why I Tried To Quickly Leave Nigeria After Handing Over To Soludo – Ex-Governor Obiano, Breaks Silence

The immediate former governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, has explained why he tried to leave Nigeria hours after he handed over to his successor, Chukwuma Soludo.

Obiano handed over power to Soludo on Thursday, March 17 and was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos a few hours later while trying to leave the country.

In an interview Obiano, through his lawyer, Patrick Ikwueto (a Senior Advocate of Nigeria), said he was not running away but was rather hurrying to keep a doctor’s appointment to treat a “semi fatal condition”.

“He was not running away. Why will he run away when his family is here and he has a lot to do here? The fact is that he (Obiano) has a medical condition for which he had a prior appointment to see his Specialist Doctor for treatment at Spring Creek Urology Specialists LLC, Houston, Texas, U.S.A.

“By the nature of his ailment, he has been undergoing treatment at the said Specialist Hospital since June 2021 and had an appointment earlier scheduled for the final stage of Specialist Radiography for eight (8) weeks – which will take place immediately upon his arrival at the Facility in Houston, Texas, U.S.A; and thereafter, after four days. Subsequent treatments are scheduled every day for a period of eight (8) weeks,” he said.

Ikwueto said the former governor had since mid-last year received treatment at the US medical facility every three months.

“The last time he was there was December 2021 and became due for another round of treatment this March shortly before he handed over to Soludo,” the lawyer said.

The lawyer refused to disclose the nature of the ailment.

“He (Obiano) was lucky that the disease was detected on time. It was still at an early stage when he was diagnosed last year,” said a source familiar with the former governor’s medical condition.

The lawyer also said the former governor was granted permission by the federal authorities to travel for urgent medical treatment and that the former governor was surprised that after he was given assurance that he could proceed on his trip, he was blocked at the airport.

“I can tell you that after the media reported that the EFCC placed him on its watchlist, he reached out to authorities at the federal level to seek permission to travel for his scheduled medical treatment,” the lawyer said.

“He also promised that he would thereafter return to face any probe the EFCC or any other agency had against him. So it was shocking that he was still treated the way he was despite the assurance he was given,” he said

Court Refuses To Grant Embattled Super Cop, Abba Kyari Bail

The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court on Monday, declined to grant the bail application of one time Nigerian celebrated super Cop, Abba Kyari.

Justice Emeka Nwite, in a ruling, held that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had placed sufficient evidence before the court to refuse the bail request.

Mr Nwite also rejected the bail plea of Mr Kyari’s co-defendants.

The NDLEA, in its counter affidavit, held that it was inappropriate to grant bail to the applicant because of the facts and circumstances of the case.

The anti-narcotic agency described Mr Kyari as “a flight risk.”

It argued that if granted bail, the suspended DCP might jump bail.

The NDLEA, which said Mr Kyari might interfere with the evidence if granted bail, urged the court to dismiss his bail plea.

It argued that the medical challenges of the applicant were not beyond the capacity of the agency’s medical personnel.

The judge, in the ruling, aligned with NDLEA’s arguments and dismissed the request.

Former Imo state governor and senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, Rochas Okorocha, said that if the possibility of a Tinubu and Rochas ticket emerges ahead of the 2023 presidential elections, he would clinch it.

Mr Okorocha stressed a possibility of being a running mate of Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This, he said, was because he represents the South-East, while Mr Tinubu is a South-Westerner.

“Uncle Tinubu and I are most likely to be.

“I know that at the appropriate time it may be because he is the one pushing up in the South-West and I am in the South-East.

“So let us see what happens between us, and if that is it, I will ask him to relax a bit so that we can move this section forward,” the senator said while fielding questions from journalists at the party’s national convention held in Abuja.

Mr Okorocha also noted that he was loved by people because he has sympathy for humanity and shuns tribalism.

“The people naturally love me and I think it is because they believe I care, they believe I love and have sympathy for humanity, they believe I am detribalised.

“They believe I do not know religion or tribe, Muslim Christian, Igbo or Hausa, Yoruba, all I see is a human being and that is what makes the difference on my side.’’

Nigeria Is Not The Only Country Facing Economic Hardship — Fashola Says

The minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, says the rising cost of living and economic hardship bedeviling Nigerians are not peculiar to the country.

Speaking in an interview with Channel Television, the minister said the raging crisis in Nigeria can be likened to situations in other countries like the United States and the United Kingdom

He said this after he was confronted with a chart showing indices such as a 220 percent increase in fertiliser prices between 2020 and 2022, decline of the naira’s value by 59.45 percent, and rise in the cost of cooking gas by 129 percent within the same time period.

According to him, “I think it is perhaps not helpful to publish that spreadsheet in isolation. What you should do is to compare it with the rest of the world. Tell me anywhere in the world where the cost of living is not rising, whether it is UK, US.

Just three days ago, CNN was showing a footage of Americans stealing fuel and they would not be stealing it if it was cheap; these are very challenging times globally for the entire world. So this is not an isolated occurrence that affects Nigeria only.

PuWhen Covid happened, we responded and put up an economic sustainability committee, and we cushioned the impact of the difficult times on Nigeria through a suite of measures. And the impact and result is now there for us to see.”

Lasun had in December 2021 declared that nobody “born of a woman” could stop him from contesting the 2022 governorship election in the state.

The former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives had also alleged that the APC did not win the 2018 governorship election which brought Adegboyega Oyetola into office.

Former APC Chieftain Picks PDP Governorship Nomination Form In Lagos

The leader of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, said the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reached its terminal point in Lagos and would be rooted out in 2023.

Mr Adediran popularly known as Jandor made this assertion in Lagos on Thursday when he formally declared to run for Lagos State governorship seat in 2023 general elections, under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governorship hopeful who defected from the ruling APC to PDP, enjoined the PDP family to unite and rise above every limitation capable of truncating the party’s chances in forthcoming elections.

“There is a terminal point for everything and the terminal point of APC in Lagos is 2023. We were the APC, we have created that implosion in APC and we are now in PDP,” he said.

Mr Adediran advised his new party, PDP to look at every aspirant running for office and see which one of them could truly win the election for the party.

“Let the party give the ticket to that person and let us see how we can work together.

“We have never been this hopeful, 2023 is the year for us to take Lagos and return it to the people of Lagos. We understood the state and ready to change the narrative if elected,” the aspirant said.

Mr Adediran said the coming in of the Lagos4Lagos Movement into PDP was a big opportunity for the PDP to win in Lagos.

He said that the fear from some quarters that Lagos4Lagos movement wanted to take over the party or would likely hijack the party was unfounded.

“Lagos is a wealthy state. If we have a leader that is compassionate with emotional intelligence, there is no how the resources of the state will not work for the state.

“For us, we will make primary education free and compulsory with free uniforms for pupils. The moment we come into office. We will provide everything children need to be in school,” he promised

Just In: Expect Bigger Salaries Soon, IGP Tells Policemen

The Inspector General of  Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has appealed to the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to shelve their planned strike, saying there are better days ahead.

Baba said that any strike action embarked upon by policemen in the country would be viewed as a “mutiny” which would attract disciplinary action.

The IGP, who was represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), in charge of Southwest, Johnson Kokumo, stated this on Thursday while addressing the officers of Ondo State Police Command in Akure.

He explained that, although the Federal Government had announced the increment in the salary of the policemen, he said the process of its execution was still ongoing.

He said, “There is a need for us to reach out to you all. At times when certain things are working in your favour, one will not blame you because you are not informed. We need to let you know what the federal government and the President, Muhammadu Buhari, and the Inspector General of Police have in offing for the personnel of the Police force.

“President (Buhari) announced a salary increase from his benevolence. The salary increase is now being processed, and computations have already begun. There is a procedure and process that it must take and there are also numbers of departments that it must also pass through and these sections of the police are working hard to ensure that we have this salary increase effected any moment from now.

“We would have smiles on our faces soon but let me caution that you don’t allow disgruntled elements to lure you into anything criminal or inimical to your work or your profession. I know the arrangements on the ground. I want you to sit down and look at the percentage of salary increase. The computing of this salary increment has to do with enough time of diligence.

“We need to work diligently for the actualization of these prayers and not to engage in any strike. You all know the consequences of mutiny. You will never be found guilty of committing mutiny, that is just my prayer,” he said.

While asking police personnel to eschew unethical behaviours, the IGP charged them to discharge their duties in accordance with the law.

He said the police needed to respect the rights of the citizens, reminding them that their salaries were being paid from the taxpayers’ fund.

In his remarks, Commissioner of Police, Mr Oyediran Oyeyemi said the rank and file of the police in the state are fully in support of the IGP.

Sad: Hours After Attending His Sister’s Wedding, Man Dies At The Hospital He Drove Himself To Over Stomach Ache

A new dad of twins, Engr Nafiu, has died barely 24 hours after attending his sister’s wedding in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Nafiu, who is the son of Engr Musa Yeteti, a former Commissioner for Education in Kwara State, died at a Lagos hospital where he was receiving treatment for stomach disorder.

According to DailyTrust, the 28-year-old Civil Engineer was buried according to Islamic rites at the Muslim cemetery in Ilorin on Tuesday March 22.

Announcing the sad news, Yeteti said, “He left Ilorin on Sunday after the wedding to resume office on Monday only for me to be called by his wife that he was restless in the morning.

He drove himself to the hospital when he was feeling discomfort. It was when the wife got to the hospital that he met him in that state of restlessness. He was just 28 years old and recently gave birth to twins.

I am pained but I have accepted Allah’s decree on this. This is the second of my sons that I would bury. But if this had happened before the wedding, it would have been a different story.”

Outrage As Oba Of Lagos Praises Army For Shooting #EndSARS Protesters

The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has praised the Nigerian army for its intervention during #EndSARS protests despite sweeping criticisms of the latter for opening fire on unarmed protesters at Lekki Tollgate.

In October 2020, thousands of youth demonstrated across the country for days in protest against decades of police brutality and other human rights abuses by defunct police department tagged Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

Mr Akinolu who hosted the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Farouk Yahaya, at his palace on Tuesday, said although several Nigerians criticised the army for shooting protesters, he appreciated their efforts.

“I appreciate the efforts of the Nigerian Army during the #EndSARS’ protest.

“Many people criticised them for coming out during the protest but it was good they came out when the police could no longer handle the situation,” he said.

The monarch’s comment is despite a report by the state Judicial Panel of Inquiry to investigate cases of brutality, which described the October 20, 2020 incident as a massacre.

The panel also established that the Nigerian military shot live bullets, killed several protesters, and took corpses away in their vans.

But Mr Akinolu argued that the military’s intervention cushioned the situation.

“The army’s intervention calmed the situation, and I also thank the almighty Allah that nobody died in the palace during the incident,” he said.

The Lagos monarch’s palace was in 2020 invaded by irate youths who accused him of hoarding palliatives meant for poor citizens.

Foodstuffs, starched hard currencies, staff of office, among other valuables were carted away from Mr Akiolu’s palace as he was chased away from his domain for months.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff, who was on an operational visit to Lagos to inaugurate some projects, said that his visit to the palace was to get royal blessings from the traditional ruler.

“I came to this palace to pay my respect and homage to the king before inaugurating the project in Isale-Eko.” he said
