Police Invite Nigerian Pastor, Oba Solomon After Prophesying Tinubu Won’t Be Nigerian President In 2023

The Nigeria Police Force has invited Instagram cleric, Prophet Adelana Adekunle Solomon, popularly known as Oba Solomon, for questioning.

In a letter making the rounds on social media, the police said the cleric known for his controversial preaching on social media was invited over a petition against him.

“The office is investigating a matter reported to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan Lagos,” part of the invitation letter read.

“In order to facilitate investigation, you are requested to report to the office in-charge of Zonal Complaint Response Unit, CSP Olukode Taofiki with GSM No. 08063250810 on 2nd February, 2022 by 1000hrs.”

However, a quick check on the Cleric Instagram account shows where he was criticising Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The post read “If I am a true Prophet of God, Tinubu will not become the President of Nigeria and he becomes the President, he will not spend 4 years before he will die,” the cleric had said in the video.

Recall that Tinubu had recently declared his intention to run for the country’s president in 2023.

“He is in good health, hale and hearty. He will be returning to Nigeria within a few days after necessary consultations here in the UK,” he said.

According to him, Omóle, briefed Tinubu on progressive activities in the UK and other issues pertaining to national development back home.

He said Omole also briefed Tinubu on how patriotic Nigerians in the Diaspora were helping out from their countries of residence to ensure a better Nigeria for all.

He further quoted Omole as saying that progressives in the UK had been collaborating with other patriotic Nigerians globally to work hand in glove with their counterparts in Nigeria to promote peace, unity and development.

“We are working round the clock to support the President Muhammadu Buhari APC-led administration and contribute our quota to taking Nigeria to the next level,” Omole said.

He said the meeting with the APC national leader espoused the commitment of the Nigerian Diaspora community to nation-building.

Omole and fellow progressives has blazed the trail on several fronts and inspired fellow Nigerians in the Diaspora especially, to toe the path of patriotism and honour.

According to an official of one of the NGOs in Kano, Sani Lawan, who disclosed that his state had received the largest share of the goods, while small quantity had been distributed to Katsina, Kaduna, Adamawa and Zamfara states.

Lawan said, “Apart from NGOs, some orphanages and psychiatric hospitals benefitted. Each NGO had received 4 bales and there are some small quantities to be sent to Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara and Adamawa.

“As I am talking to you, the clothes are being distributed within the Kano city, but we will send a small amount to some villages in the state.

“Due to this cold weather, the First Lady deem it fit to help the vulnerable people, who might not have the money to buy harmattan wears. To me, it is a good initiative.”

Ekiti 2022: Bamidele Urges Supporters To Liberate Ekiti

One of the aspirants in the just-concluded All Progressives Congress, (APC) Governorship primary in Ekiti, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele, has urged his supporters to be resolute in the quest to rescue the state.

Bamidele described as rather unfortunate that the process of conducting the governorship primary was hijacked, truncated, compromised and bastardised by those at the helm of affairs in Ekiti.

The APC chieftain and governorship aspirant, said this on Sunday in message made available to newsmen in which he thanked his supporters.

In the message, entitled: “Thank You All and I Urge You to Stand Firm on Your Feet for It is no Longer About An Individual Aspiration, But Our Collective Ambition to Liberate Ekiti and Make Her Light Shine Again.”

He alleged that there was no governorship primary in Ekiti at all, but rather a fraudulent and fictitious vote count.

“A critical assessment of our campaign strategy showed that we positively reached out to our people in all nooks and crannies of Ekiti to push our progressive message.

“I had no doubt in my mind that we were coasting to victory had the process been transparent and fair.

“It is public knowledge that no primary election took place on Thursday, Jan. 27, but yet, rather results were announced based on concocted and fictitious vote counts.

“But we will remain resolute, strong, focused and faithful in the face of this impunity, total lack of regard for the due electoral process as well as executive rascality by a chosen few, who were elected to represent the interests of Ekiti people,” Bamidele said.

He decried the level of impunity, desperation and rigging that characterised the gubernatorial primary held by APC in Ekiti.

He added that the desperation to win beclouded the perpetrators so much that he was alloted 700 plus votes in a statewide gubernatorial primary election where he had scored more than 90,000 votes in just one out of three Senatorial Districts to emerge as a Senator.

He boasted that in his three years as a senator, he had done much more to earn the confidence and greater love of the people through effective representation on the floor of the Senate.

He wondered how he could score as low as the figure allotted to him in the governorship primary exercise after all his development projects and programmes which had impacted positively on the people.

He said, “more specifically, the breakdown of the votes alloted to me indicated that I got 150 votes in Ado-Ekiti, my beloved second home where I had recorded 28,000 votes out of the 42,000 votes that gave me the House of Representatives mandate way back in  2011 to represent Ado/Irepodun-Ifelodun Federal Constituency.”

He called on his supporters not to waver, but take immediate steps within the confines of our party constitution and  the law to seek redress for this blatant abuse of trust and due process.

Bamidele, therefore, called for calm while he is on quest to seek an amicable resolution to this impasse, saying his supporters and loved ones must continue to pray that justice and truth will prevail for the benefit of the people of Ekiti.

He said, “I most specially, appreciate your acts of selfless service, commitment of resources, time and efforts to ensure victory for us at the primary.

“Dear Compatriots and Stakeholders, to begin with, I will like to give thanks to God Almighty for His grace and fortitude that has brought us this far in our political journey together.”

He expressed his appreciation to APC structure at all levels for their continued supports at ensuring the tenets of democracy are continuously entrenched in the political entities and governance of Ekiti.

He further thanked his teeming supporters, family, kinsmen, distinguished colleagues, friends, loved  ones, party elders and members of Team M. O. B. as well as Destiny Helpers from all walks of life and the Think Thank Vision group, for their unflinching support in our preparations for the gubernatorial primaries.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary and Legal Matters, said there is no doubt that Ekiti is today, groping in darkness, adding that they must all work together for a glorious dawn of light.

He said, “in working together, let us please not rely on our strength or wisdom, but on the wisdom and grace of God, drawing strength from the Holy Bible scripture as contained in  2 Chronicles: 20-12, which says, “We Do Not Know What to Do, but Our Eye are on God.

“In the spirit of togetherness, shall we run through this and make a statement for justice. Certainly, also, we shall celebrate at the end of it all by the special grace of God. I thank you all.”

Presidency: APC In Problem Over Zoning, May Throw Race Open

There are strong indications that the All Progressives Congress is in a dilemma over the zoning of the 2023 presidency.

Report gathered on Sunday that although the party was looking southwards to pick its presidential candidate, there was a strong possibility that it could still throw the race open for both northern and southern aspirants.

A top leader of the APC, who confided in one of our correspondents, said the party was still considering options that could make it retain the presidency in 2023.

The party leader said, “Although from all indications, the next chairman will come from the North, that will not stop interested northerners from vying for the APC presidential ticket. We have competent aspirants in the North and the South. We have not made up our minds, but we will go for the best, who will help us retain the presidency in 2023.”

Also, an APC leader from the North stated all options were still on the table for the party.

The party leader stated, “If the chairman and the President come from the North, the worst the party can do is to give the chairman a political appointment and allow his deputy, who will be a southerner to step in. Also, we can retain the present arrangement by retaining a northern chairman and picking our presidential candidate from the south.”

It was, however, learnt that chieftains of the APC, who were pushing for a president from the South were insisting that the party could not turn around to zone Presidency to the North after the same region had produced the chairman of the party.

It was gathered the party’s National Executive Committee would meet on the issue after the February 26 national convention.

“We are studying what is going on in the PDP, but NEC will meet after the national convention and decide the best option,” a national officer of the party said on condition of anonymity.

Efforts to get the National Secretary of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Senator James Akpanudoedehe’s comment on the issue, on Sunday did not succeed as he did not pick calls to his phone nor responded to an SMS sent to him.

But Akpanudoedehe had two weeks ago said the party had yet to take a position on zoning.

Parties free to pick presidential candidates from any zone, says ACF

Commenting on the issue, the pan-northern socio-political organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum said it was not interested in which section of the country, north or south, produced the presidency in 2023.

The National Publicity Secretary of the ACF, Emmanuel Yawe, who stated this in a chat with one of our correspondents in Kaduna, wondered if the socio-cultural organisations dictating that the 2023 presidency must come from a section of the country knew what they were doing.

The spokesman noted that the northern body would allow the rule of law to prevail by allowing the political parties to carry out their responsibility as enshrined in the constitution.

He said, “We have said it again and again that we are not interested or going to show interest in which section in of the country produces the president  – north or south – we accept all.

“The constitution assigns the responsibility of choosing candidates – presidential candidates included – to the parties. It is an exclusive responsibility.”

“Those socio-cultural organisations going all over Nigeria dictating where presidential candidates must come from know what they are doing, we hope.”

Using Of Tiolet Tissues Are Dangerous For Anus – Doctor Warns

A Nigerian medical personnel, known as Dr. Olufunmilayo, has warned against the use of toilet rolls to cleanup whenever one passes excreta.

In a thread shared on his Twitter handle, Dr Olufunmilayo opined that toilet rolls are harmful to the anus. He said instead of using Tissue paper, people should use soap and water or wet towels to clean up whenever they use the restroom.

His thread reads;

”NEVER use toilet-roll after you shit. NEVER use toilet-roll after you shit. Can tear your anus, Waste of time/money, Leaves your anus dirty and smelly, Can give you urine infection, Stains your pant/boxers with shit. TOILET ROLLS ARE HARMFUL FOR YOUR ANUS

The real problem with a toilet roll is that it actually does NOT clean your anus properly. What a toilet roll does is to take off the top shit and smear the rest of the shit across your anus (and anus hair if you have some). This left over shit can cause you medical problems.

So what’s the BEST way to clean your anus after you shit? Use soap and water! Washing your anus with soap and water after you shit remains the MOST EFFECTIVE way of cleaning. If no soap (or time), The next best way is to use water only. If no soap and water, Use wet wipes.

If you use toilet at work, Or you may use a public toilet where getting soap and water may not be available, may waste time or the water may be too dirty, Use wet wipes. Wet wipes are your best bet in that situation. Always carry wet wipes in your bag or car. That’s the advice.

So why is toilet roll very bad for you? 1. Toiletroll if you use it too hard because you want to “clean well”, it can tear your anus (medically called anal fissures). This can cause you very serious pain and bleeding when next you poo and open up your anus area up for infection.

Toilet roll if you use it softly because you don’t want to hurt your anus, will leave leftover shit in your anus area which would make you have a smelly dirty itchy bottom that stains your underwear. This is why many of you are always itching your bumbum- but you don’t know.

For women: if you use toilet roll and you wipe from back to front- you are at risk of introducing bacteria inside the shit into your vagina area and this can cause urine infections. This is why after a while you notice you start to have lower tummy pain and pain when you pee.

So in conclusion, Toilet rolls are a waste of time, waste of money and a health hazard for you if you use them after you shit. They will cause you harm and they actually do a very poor job of cleaning your anus. NEVER use toilet rolls after you shit. They are bad for you.

There’s NOTHING posh about toiletrolls. There’s NOTHING classy about toiletrolls. I’m emphasising this for those who have been blackmailed into thinking washing your anus with water after you shit is “ghetto” or not classy. Using a toilet roll after you shit is the real ghetto.

Please after you shit: Wash your anus with soap and water, if you can and if you have the means. Or Wash with water alone Or use wet wipes- if in a hurry and there’s no soap or water. Please NEVER use toilet rolls after you shit. You are harming yourself and wasting your money.”

Scarcity Of Dead Bodies Is Affecting Anatomy Study In Nigeria – Prof. Ajao Laments

A professor of Anatomy at the University of Ilorin, Prof Moyosore Salihu Ajao, says the scarcity of dead bodies is affecting the study of anatomy and achievements of its attendant gains in Nigeria.

Speaking at the 214th Inaugural Lecture at the university, Moyosore observed that a unique thing about the study of Anatomy in most schools is the non-availability of “raw materials” needed for its practical classes.

According to Independent, referring to the availability of dead bodies for study, the scholar said, “They are never sold in the market in any part of the world. Since human anatomy is the science that is concerned with the structures of the human body, these structures cannot be fully understood from written descriptions to dimensional pictures or plastic models.

The dissection of the human body (cadavers) is the basis for understanding the structure and functions of the human body for several centuries. In other words, to fully understand the importance of cadavers to man is far and beyond what we should overlook.

The first major challenge I noticed on my assumption of office as a young lecturer in the department of anatomy was the chronic shortages of cadavers in the department and after a quick check on other universities, I discovered that we are not alone in the struggle to get bodies fit enough for dissection.

One of my studies revealed that about 12 to 15 students used a body against International Standard that recommend maximum of six students to one body. The National Universities Commission recommends an average of eight students per body in Nigeria.”

APC Aspirants Trying To Steal Voters’ PVCs – Governor Oyetola Cries Out

Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun has urged would-be voters to safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the July 16 gubernatorial election, accusing other All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirants of attempting to steal their PVCs.

On Thursday, while touring Ila Federal Constituency, Mr Oyetola also urged APC members to keep their membership registration slips ahead of the party’s primary.

He appealed to them not to allow anyone to deceive them with a ”fake loan” to still steal their PVCs from them.

“I implore you to keep the party’s registration slip issued during the accreditation exercise and your voter’s card safe. With the look of things, it seems that the party will opt for direct primary,” noted the Osun governor. “If it is so, the membership slip will be used for the exercise. Some people want to collect your PVC and membership slip with the pretence to give you a loan.”

He added, “They are all liars, the loan that they did not give you two years ago. They are lying to give you months to the election. They are promising you food now. They are liars. We started our food support programme last April and did not stop it.”

In his remarks, the Orangun of Ila, Oba Abdul Oyedotun, said the governor’s achievements in developing the state were enough testimonies for him to be reelected.

Mr Oyedotun, who noted that the governor would triumph in the election, said the electorate was behind him.

“Your achievements speak for themselves, and we are proud of what you have done. Your second term ambition will be successful, and whoever tries to stand in your way will not witness your success story,” said the ruler. “Don’t despair, our ancestors were faced with travails, and they emerged triumphant. You shall overcome yours too. Your detractors will witness your success, and you will triumph over them.”

Mr Diri gave the advice while speaking at the end of a two-day programme of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, tagged “Light Up Bayelsa Holy Ghost Rally” in Yenagoa on Thursday.

Discompose In Court As Oromoni's Family Doctor Reveals Real Cause Of Sylvester's Death

A seond prosecution witness, Peter Odewo-Oritse, an operations manager at KenBen Nig. Ltd., a company in Warri, Delta State owned by the father of late Sylvester Oromoni, has testified at the coroner’s inquest investigating the controversial death of the Dowen College student.

Oromoni died on November 30, 2021, under controversial circumstances.

While answering questions from the lawyer to the Lagos State Government, Seun Akande, the witness testified that the deceased had an enlarged liver but was not immediately taken to a hospital.

Channels TV reports that Magistrate Mikail Kadiri sitting at the Epe Magistrate Court, Lagos, also heard that upon arrival in Warri, Delta State, the Oromoni family doctor, Aghoho Owhojede, attended to the boy who was treated for malaria. Based on the doctor’s instructions, a scan and an x-ray were later conducted on the boy, which results revealed among other things that the boy had a liver enlargement.

The witness said the Oromoni parents initially arranged with Dr Owhojede to take their son to the Delta State Teaching Hospital, Oghara for treatment but added that he was eventually taken to one Vicar Hospital on Nov. 30th where he was said to have later died. The witness also testified that the boy and his mother had first gone to church for prayers before the medical tests were carried out.

He added that though the boy was in great pains, and his condition worsened, he was not instructed by the parents to take him to the hospital.

Oromoni, a 12-year-old student of Dowen College, Lekki, was later taken by road to Warri in Delta State where he eventually died on Nov 30th.

Meanwhile, the Ijaw Youth Council, Lagos Chapter has filed an application seeking to be joined in the inquest. The coroner says the application will be considered at the next sitting of the court on Friday, Jan. the 28th.

Buhari Government Will Continue To Borrow Without Subsidy Removal – Femi Adesina Says

President Buhari’s media aide, Femi Adesina has said that Buhari-led administration will continue to borrow foreign loans to service the nation without the removal of the contentious fuel subsidy.

He added that Nigerians will still have to pay a price for suspended fuel subsidy removal because Mr Buhari regime may continue to incure more debt to run the country.

“Head or tail, Nigeria will have to pay a price,” he said. “It’s either we pay the price for the removal (fuel subsidy) in consonance and in conjunction with the understanding of the people, but if that will not come, the other cost is that borrowings may continue, and things may be difficult fiscally with both the states and the federal government,” said Mr Femi in an interview with Channels TV on Wednesday while speaking on Mr Buhari’s decision to suspend the removal of subsidy.

He added, “You know how much could have been saved if the subsidy was removed and how it could have been diverted to other areas and spheres of national life. But if you do not go that way now – and I agree that it may not be auspicious to go that way, then we have to pay a price.”

Nigeria’s foreign debt stood at $7.3 billion under ex-President Goodluck Jonathan. Under Mr Buhari, it has risen to $28.57 billion as of December 2020.

According to Nigerian Domestic and Foreign Debt Report, published last year by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the country’s total public debt as of September 2020 stood at N32.2 trillion ($84.57 billion).

In November 2021, minister of finance, budget and national planning Zainab Ahmed said the regime would effect fuel subsidy removal by June 2022, adding that Nigerians would be supported with N5,000 transportation allowance to cushion the effect of subsidy removal.

However, amidst oppositionand planned protest against removal of subsidy by Nigerian Labour Congress, Buhari-led regime announced the suspension of the decision for 18 months

President Buhari Has Done More Than The U.S Government In Infastructure — Fashola Says

President Muhammadu Buhari has done more than the Us government in terms of infrastructure, the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has said.

The minister said this on Thursday, January 27, 2022, while speaking at an event in Kano state.

He said, “I can assure you that the present APC administration of President Buhari has achieved what even the US government is trying to do in terms of infrastructure.

As at December 2021, we have completed 941 kilometers of roads across all states and geopolitical zones. In Kano state here for instance, there are 21 road projects either in, around or in the neighbouring communities.

Before APC administration, when last do you remember Federal Government completing 50 kilometer road in any part of the country?

So, this is the positive change we promised Nigerians in 2015 and it is already happening. They say we are the same with them, but we are not. They stole money and took it abroad, but we are taking this money back and investing it in the area of infrastructure.”

Road To 2023: We Won’t Endorse Any Presidential Candidate For 2023 Election

Northern group, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has declared it does not have any preferred candidate for the 2023 presidential election.

According to ACF, any political party and its candidate must unveil what programme they have for the Northern region before they could enjoy its support.

ACF, which issued a stern warning to its members against supporting candidates in its name, stated the Forum is not a political party and will not endorse anyone for the 2023 presidency.

This was contained in a communique signed by the Chairman of ACF, Chief Audu Ogbeh after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Kaduna, on Wednesday, January 26.

 The communique read in part;

“We have always complained of late of the security situation in the north. We are still worried about this. The security conditions in the north are far from satisfactory. We urge the Federal and state government to embark on measures that will improve the situation.

“We had proposed in the past that a meeting with Afenifere/Ndigbo. This meeting has not held because of logistic problems. This will soon be worked out and members informed accordingly.

“ACF is not a political party to endorse any candidate. Our plans to have meetings with Afenifere, Ohanaeze, South South People Congress is still on course because there is need to put a stop to abusive words against one region or the other.

“We should desist from endorsing any candidate for the 2023 presidency. If anybody asks you about endorsement, tell such person that we are not a political party.

“Even for the 2023, we do not know yet who the candidate is. We are not a political party. We do not participate in political activities except where it becomes necessary. May God help us with good candidate. It is only the Almighty God that can solve our problem.  Our plans to have meetings with our counterpart; South South People’s Congress, Afenifere, Ohanaeze is still in progress. Once we are done with the plans we will let you know. We need to make peace. Abusive words on social media will not help us. We don’t want chaos in this country. If we turn refugees, where do we go? We will abandon all our property because we can not carry anything along with us other than Ghana-Must-Go bag”.

Ebonyi State Government Declears Ex-lawmaker Wanted Over Facebook Post

Former House of Representatives member, Linus Okorie, who represented Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, has been declared wanted by the government of Ebonyin state for publishing an inciting article against the state on the social networking platform, Facebook.

Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Orji Uchenna Orji, and Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Cletus Afoke, disclosed this in a joint statement on Tuesday.

According to the government officials, the article allegedly led to the beheading of an Ebubeagu security operative in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state.

Suspected hoodlums had last Sunday shot dead and then beheaded a man said to be a member of Ebubeagu security operative in Ebonyi State in Nigeria’s South-East.

Ebubeagu was set up by the Ebonyi State Government to complement the job of the police and other security agencies in checking the rising crime rates in the state.

The incident occurred in Ekpelu, in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state, while the slain man has been identified as Sunday Nwafor, 30.

The gunmen, over five of them, were said to have stormed the man’s house at night while he was asleep and shot him dead.

They dragged the body out of the room, cut off his head and took it away.

Don’t Zone 2023 Presidential Ticket To North – PDP Warns

The Peoples Democratic Party has been warned against fielding a presidential candidate from the North in 2023 as this may lead to mass exodus within the major opposition party.

A political advocacy group, Reset Nigeria, which made the call in a statement, said the party risked mass exodus of members and extinction if it failed to field a presidential candidate from Southern Nigeria in line with the idea of rotational presidency between the North and South.

The group in the statement by its spokesperson, Ibrahim Mustapha, said it had noticed that some governors in the PDP were plotting to field a Northern candidate in a bid for one of them to be chosen as running mate at the poll.

The statement reads, “In the meantime, the ruling All Progressives Congress led by President Muhammadu Buhari (a Northerner) would have spent eight years in power by 2023.

“The PDP as a party is planning to take power back to the North again. This may prompt an already impending mass exodus of PDP members to the APC, being that they feel that the ruling party will zone its presidential ticket to the South, which is the right thing to do.

“This is a wind that may blow very soon, and it will come as a rude shock to the PDP. More so, it may be the end of the PDP in Nigeria’s political process.”

The group, which said zoning the presidency to the South, will rekindle Nigeria’s unity and promote justice, equity and fairness, alleged that there were ongoing secret meetings and consultations in the PDP on how best to present a Northern presidential candidate in 2023.

It, however, warned that “this may be a Tsunami that will wipe out the PDP totally,” noting that elder statemen had kicked against the notion of favouring a Northern presidency.

However, MACBAN National Secretary, Baba Ngelzarma, on Wednesday issued a rebuttal, stressing that the association respected the ambition of all aspirants and was yet to pitch its tent with any of them.

“The attention of MACBAN headquarters has been drawn to claims that we have endorsed the presidential aspiration of Sen. Ahmed Tinubu.

“We want to make it clear that the association has not endorsed any candidate. Those who endorsed Tinubu are doing so as individuals. MACBAN should not in any way be dragged into the politics of endorsement at this stage,” Ngelzarma said.

“It is possible for you to delegate, ask people to go all over the place but when they are reporting to you, if something has not been added, a few things may have been removed,” he said.

MACBAN disclosed this after a meeting at the Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute, Abuja.

The meeting drew Fulani leaders from the 36 states and the FCT Abuja.

Over 100 Catholic Officials Come Out As Gay In Germany

More than 100 Catholic church officials in Germany came out as LGBT, queer or non-binary on Monday, adding to calls for reform within the crisis-hit church.

Demands for a more liberal attitude to homosexuality within the German church have coincided with uproar over reports of widespread child sex abuse by Catholic clergymen in the country, including allegations of cases where former pope Benedict XVI failed to act.

The 125-strong group, which includes priests and workers in education and administration, published a statement demanding an end to the “discrimination and exclusion” they had experienced.

“I don’t want to hide my sexual identity anymore,” Uwe Grau, a priest in the diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart, was quoted on the group’s website as saying.

“We are part of the church,” added Raphaela Soden, who works in pastoral care for young adults and identifies as queer and non-binary. “We always have been. It’s time to finally make it clear that we exist and how wonderfully queer the body of Christ is.”

The statement called for “free access to all pastoral vocations”, and an end to what the signatories called a “system of concealment, double standards, and dishonesty” surrounding LGBT issues.

“Entering into a non-heterosexual relationship or marriage must never be considered a breach of loyalty and, consequently, an obstacle to employment or a reason for dismissal,” they said.

The issue of homosexuality has caused a major rift in the Catholic Church between modernisers and conservatives.

Coup? Army Detains Burkina Faso’s President Kabore

President Roch Kabore of Burkina Faso has been detained at a military camp by mutinying soldiers, Reuters reports.

According to a report by the medium, the President’s arrest was confirmed by four security sources and a West African diplomat.

On Sunday evening, there was heavy gunfire around the President’s residence in the country’s capital Ouagadougou.

This was even as soldiers demanded more support for their fight against Islamist militants. However, the government had denied that the army had seized power.

Kabore’s whereabouts or situation were unknown as of Monday morning, with conflicting reports circulating among security and diplomatic sources.

Several armoured vehicles of the presidential fleet, riddled with bullets, could be seen near the president’s residence. One was spattered with blood. Residents of the president’s neighbourhood reported heavy gunfire overnight.

However, there has been no report from government sources.

Frustration has risen in Burkina Faso in recent months due to the frequent killing of civilians and soldiers by militants, some of whom have links to the Islamic State and al Qaeda.

Protesters came out to support the mutineers on Sunday and ransacked the headquarters of Kabore’s political party. The government declared a curfew from 2000 GMT to 0530 GMT until further notice and closed schools for two days.

The turmoil in Burkina Faso comes after successful military coups over the past 18 months in Mali and Guinea, where the army removed President Alpha Conde last September.

The military also took over in Chad last year after President Idriss Deby died on the battlefield there.

Burkina Faso’s army has suffered heavy losses at the hands of Islamist militants, who control swathes of the country and have forced residents in those areas to abide by their harsh version of Islamic law.

The upheaval underscores the political consequences of the growing insurgency across the Sahel region, including Nigeria.

I Used To Collect Pocket Money From Late Alao-Akala – VP Osinbajo Says

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says he used to collect pocket money from former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo, describing him as a generous, kindhearted and decent man.

Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo, the current commissioner for justice in Oyo state, was our link to him. If we needed little pocket money, we found a way of getting to our dear uncle. This was even long before he became governor of Oyo state,” explained the vice president.

Mr Osinbajo disclosed this during a condolence visit to the family of Mr Alao-Akala in Ogbomoso. The ex-governor, an All Progressives Congress (APC) leader in Oyo, died on January 12.

“We have profound memories of him, a man who was exceedingly generous. He was a titan in politics. He was a very generous, kindhearted and decent man,” he added. “Long before I became a professor of Law, I had known our dear uncle Adebayo Alao- Akala. Any time I think about him, I smile because he was a very special being.”

Mr Osinbajo recalled how generous Mr Alao-Akala was with advice, time and resources. According to him, in 2015, when he was nominated as the APC vice presidential candidate, one of the people he consulted was Mr Alao-Akala.

“It was Prof. Oyewo, my friend, who arranged a meeting between us in Ikoyi, and he gave me advice. He said, ‘Professor, the vice-president’s seat is not a child’s play’, Mr Osinbajo recounted. “He was so generous. He gave me much advice and much support.”

The vice president commiserated with the family, praying that Mr Alao-Akala’s legacy would endure.

“No one can know the extent of your pain and sadness. Only God can comfort you and keep you,” he said.

Mr Osinbajo also prayed that Mr Alao-Akala’s children would be greater than he was.

More Update: How I Kidnapped, Murdered Five-year-old Schoolgirl In My Care – Kano Proprietor, Abdulmalik Confesses

A Nigerian school proprietor, Abdulmalik Mohammad Tanko, has revealed why and how he kidnapped and murdered one of the pupils under his tutelage, Hanifa Abubakar, in Kano State.

Seven year old Abubakar, a pupil of Noble Kids Comprehensive College Kano, was kidnapped and subsequently killed five days after, despite her abductor collecting part payment of the N6million ransom he demanded.

Tanko, on Thursday, led the police to exhume the mutilated body of little Abubakar which he buried within the school compound at Kwanan Dakata in Kano.

The 34 year old proprietor narrated why he kidnapped and killed his pupil, saying, “I needed to raise money to expand the school; unfortunately things went awry.

“Yes Hanifa was my pupil at Noble Kids Comprehensive College, Kwanan Dakata, Kano state.

“How it started, I initially contracted one Hashimu Isiyaku and a lady called Fatima to kidnap her for me; I lied to them that her mother wanted to raise some money from her father, but they couldn’t succeed.

“According to them, when they attempted to take her with them, she refused to follow them, so I did it myself; as her teacher, she felt comfortable to come with me when I went for her.

“One evening on December 4, 2021, I picked her up in a tricycle popularly known as keke, while returning home from Islamic school within their neighbourhood. I took her home to my family at Tudun Murtala and called a phone number that was dropped in the school and demanded N6million ransom from a lady that answered the call.

“Days later, some of our teachers visited my house, and I suspected they might have come to spy on me, because I learnt some of the girls that were with her on the fateful day had revealed that a school uncle had picked her.

“Consequently, I fed her with rat poison to evade being discovered and she died. I buried her within the school compound, like two weeks; after I kidnapped her”, he added.

As things stand, little baby Hanifa Abubakar has paid the supreme price for trusting her school teacher.

Her remains have been reburied, while her former teacher and his accomplices have been taken into custody.

Atiku, Saraki, Tambuwal, Others In War Over PDP’s Ticket Ahead Of 2023

A proxy war has emerged among contenders for the 2023 presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), top sources informed The Nation.

Those who have signified interest for the opposition party president’s slot include former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar; former Senate presidents; Pius Anyim and Bukola Saraki, governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto) and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi).

Others are; former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso; industrialist Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa and Ovation magazine publisher, Dele Momodu.

Atiku’s former aide and political associate Segun Sowunmi fired the first salvo in his letter to the PDP Governors Forum last week, asking the party to reject “kindergarten president and commander-in-chief.”

Sowunmi’s letter was viewed as a veiled reference to younger contenders in the race against 75-year-old Atiku.

The letter reads in part: “Everyone wants to be President after Buhari but not everyone can do the work that a post-Buhari President will be called upon to do. Presidential powers and privileges mean nothing if the prerequisite experience is absent. We cannot jump from frying pan to fire.”

Spokesman of a group within the PDP, Dr. Rufus Omeire, defended the young elements jostling for the PDP ticket.

He queried Atiku’s political relevance above other aspirants.

Writing under the eagis of the PDP Action 2023, Omeire questioned Sowunmi’s classification of Atiku as an “experienced” politician.

Omeire stated, “With respect to relevant experience for the top job, let us x-ray the candidates. Atiku Abubakar’s public sector experience consists of Deputy Director of Customs, a subordinate position.

“He never became chief executive of Customs and Excise Department. The buck never for one day stopped on his table in the Customs Service.

“He became vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,a highly exalted office, but he was never a chief executive. He only carried out instructions of his boss, President Olusegun Obasanjo.

“He never had the experience of a Chief Executive. The buck never stopped at his table. The President could accept or reject his recommendations.

“He didn’t have relevant direct experience of the top job. So wherein lies the famed experience of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar? He clearly doesn’t have the requisite public sector experience.

“Other aspirants seem to have better public sector experience; some have solid private sector experience as Chief Executives.

“Tambuwal, Saraki and Anyim headed Houses of the Legislature at the federal level as chief executives. The buck stopped on their tables as Speaker and Presidents of the Senate.

“Tambuwal, Bala Mohammed, Wike and Saraki have relevant executive experience as governors. They have seen it all from the executive point of view.

“They took decisions at the executive level in their states and have direct and first – hand experience in formulation and execution of government policies.”

Update: Kano Government Shuts School Where Proprietor Kidnapped, Buried Five-year-old Female Pupil

The Kano State Government has shut down a private school, Noble Kids Academy, located at Kwanar Dakata, in the Nassarawa Local Government Area, where the body of an abducted girl, Hanifa Abubakar, was buried by the suspects.

The closure of the school was announced by the Commissioner for Education, Muhammad Kiru, in a statement after policemen discovered the corpse of the victim buried in the private school.

Kiru, who expressed sadness over the incident, said apart from the closure of the school, the state government would commence investigation of unregistered private schools and teachers to check such criminal activities.

He appealed to parents whose children attend the private school to stop them from doing so pending the completion of investigation.

The five-year-old victim was whisked away on December 4, 2021 by the kidnappers, who came in a commercial tricycle and lured her to enter for a joyride.

The incident occurred on the fateful day when she and other neighbourhood children were returning from an Islamic school.

This sad occurrence has caught attention of Nigerians on Twitter demanding justice for the poor girl with #JusticeForHanifa.

Meanwhile, Abdulmalik Tanko has been arrested for kidnapping and killing Hanifa despite collecting part of the N6million demanded as a ransom.

Tanko was Hanifa’s school teacher, and there are claims that he killed her because the girl could recognise him.

According to him, the abductor first took her to his wife, but the wife rejected to keep her.

“After his wife rejected to keep Hanifa, he took her to Tudunwada where he operates a private school and then laced her tea with rat poison,” he said.

“After she was poisoned to death, the kidnappers then cut her body into pieces and buried it within the school.”

It was gathered that the abductors were arrested around Zaria Road in Kano last night while attempting to collect the second tranche of the ransom.

According to Abdulmalik Tanko, the proprietor of a private school in Kano, Noble Kids School, has been arrested by the police for abducting and k.ill.ing a 5-year-old pupil of the school, Hanifa Abubakar.

Family sources said he was among the first set of people who came to console her parents after the abduction on December 4, 2021.

“He was full of tears when he visited the family to console them over the abduction,” said the uncle of the girl, Suraj Sulaiman.

A statement by the police on Thursday said the school teacher, Abdulmalik Tanko, was the one who abducted and killed her.

“Sometimes on the 04/12/2021 at about 2030hrs, a report was received from a resident of Dakata Quarters, Nassarawa LGA, Kano State that, one Hanifa Abubakar, ‘f’, aged 5 years old, was kidnapped and a ransom of Six Million Naira (N6,000,000.00) was demanded,” police said in a statement by the command spokesman, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa.

“Sustained efforts and prolonged follow – up led to the arrest of one Abdulmalik Mohammed Tanko, aged 37 years old, by a detective team of the Department of State Service (DSS) Kano

“On investigation, Abdulmalik confessed that, the victim, Hanifa is his student at a private school in Kwanar Dakata, Nassarawa LGA, Kano State.

He kidnapped her and took her to his house, where he contacted her relatives and demanded a ransom of Six Million Naira (N6,000,000.00).

On the 18/12/2021, having realized that, the victim recognized him, he claimed to have poisoned her to death, conspired with one Hashim Isyaku, took and buried her in a shallow grave located at the private school premises located at Kwanar ‘Yan Gana, Tudun Murtala Quarters, Nassarawa LGA, Kano State.

“The suspects led a combine Team of Operatives of DSS Kano State, Kano State Police Command’s Medical Team and Team of Operation Puff Adder to the scene.

The body was exhumed and taken to Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital Kano, examined, confirmed dead by a Medical Doctor and release to the relatives for burial according to Islamic Rites.

“Case will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.”
