Breaking: PDP Disqualifies Two Presidential Aspirants

The chairman of the presidential screening committee for the People’s Democrats (Party PDP), Senator David Mark has announced that the party has disqualified two presidential aspirant out of 17 seeking for the presidential ticket.

The two disqualified aspirants are to forfeit the N40 million each of them paid for the expression of interest and nomination forms.

Mark however declined a request by journalists to reveal the identities of the affected aspirants and the reason(s) for their disqualification.

When asked if the screening committee made any recommendation to the party to refund the N80 million nomination fees paid by the aspirants, Mark said: “Why should the party refund the money?”

Any APC Presidential Aspirant Who Can’t Raise N100million For Nomination Form Is Not A Serious Candidate — National Chairman, Adamu Says

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Adamu, has explained why the party’s presidential nomination form is pegged at N100million.

The APC had fixed N100million as the cost for its 2023 presidential aspirants to obtain forms. The APC explained that the nomination form would go for N70million while the expression of interest form cost N30million.

The fee was approved at the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party in Abuja.

Those eyeing the governorship ticket would purchase the form at N50million.

However, aspirants under 40 years would get a 50 per cent discount on the fees while women and persons living with disabilities would pay only for the expression of interest forms.

The party had come under attack for pegging the nomination fee at such an exorbitant rate.

But Adamu in an interview with the Voice of America (VOA) Hausa Service on Wednesday said those criticising the APC over the nomination fees are members of the opposition who are trying to give the ruling party a bad name to hang it.

He said the contest for the Nigerian presidency is not a contest of the motor parks union.

“If a presidential aspirant cannot mobilise at least 10,000 supporters to raise such amount; that person is not a serious contestant,” he was quoted him as saying.

“We are talking about the president of Nigeria, not the emir of your town. Now when the emir of your town dies, the person seeking to replace him will spend more than N100million for just one emirate,” Adamu said.

He also said there are so many leadership positions that will cost more than N100million.

“For example, someone who is seeking to be president of Nigeria asked 10,000 of his supporters each to contribute N10,000; how much will that be. If he lacked supporters to contribute, he didn’t deserve to contest. I didn’t want to belittle you because the president of Nigeria is not the chairman of your village motor park.

“If you want to kill a dog, you will give him a bad name, there is nothing to compare between seeking to be Nigeria’s president and corruption using the cost of the form. If you cannot participate, there is no compulsion, if you don’t have N100million, you have no business with becoming president. Tell me which country will not fix reasonable numbers to contest the position of the president? No country that practices democracy like ours will not fix the amount to around N100million; in fact, how much is N100million?”

I’ve Accepted Kebbi People’s Call To Contest Governorship – AGF Malami Says

Nigeria’s Minister of Justice and Attorney -General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami says he has accepted calls from Kebbi people to run for the state governorship.

Mr Malami will be running on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He made the acceptance in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, at an interactive session with APC stakeholders in the state.

“Since you want me to contest governorship position of the state, I hereby accept your demand since you want me to do so.

“People from the state have been pressurising me to contest the governorship position in 2023.

“Going by my proper upbringing as son of an Islamic teacher, I will not show interest to contest for any position or judge myself qualify for any position except the people of the state want me to.

Yul Edochie’s Elder Brother Speaks Family’s Mind On His 2nd Wife Saga

Nuella's News reports that the Elder brother of Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, Uche Edochie has broken his silence on his younger brother marrying a second wife which has been making round on social media for some days now.

According to report  Yul’s Elder brother, Link Edochie had disassociated himself with the whole situation.

However, his eldest brother, Uche Edochie have come to give the family side of the story.

He wrote; “Hello guys. So my younger brother Yul Edochie just married a second wife out of the blue and Nigerians are freaking out. I get it. We are all shocked. I am a low key type of guy and I have tried to mind my own business but this circus is chasing me around too. So here is my take.

“I see two main problems here. His first wife Mary, a wonderful woman and my sister-in-law did not go into a relationship with my brother agreeing to be part of a polygamous marriage. That’s the first problem. So I feel for Mary. It is not fair on her. My family is not in support. This is not what we do and we are trying our best to console Mary. What else can we do?

“The second issue is that Yul is not a Muslim. If he was a Muslim, no one will be talking about this. Muslims marry as many wives as they want and nobody says shit. Traditional rulers and traditionalists of sorts do the same thing too and the Nigerian constitution recognizes polygamy as a legal marital union. Maybe we should burn that bloody constitution.

“We told Yul not to do it. He did it anyway. Have you ever tried controlling an adult when it comes to relationships? Good luck with that. Yul is an adult who feels marrying a second woman is the best way to own up to his mistakes and make things right. It took a lot of courage for him to do this too.

“A Muslim marries two or more wives and his people throw a party. Totally normal. A Christian does the same thing and he is the worst human being alive. It is tough. Women throw themselves at famous people so bad that it is suffocating. If the average person walks in Yul’s shoes for one year, they will get five or more women pregnant. So don’t be quick to judge if you have not lived that life. Most people will do worse.

So this is Yul’s new baby with his new wife. Beautiful boy. Children are a gift from God. It is the circumstances of their birth that gets us all riled up about what’s right and wrong. I wish them all luck. Maybe Yul should become a Muslim and shut this circus down. It is said that life is what happens when we are making other plans. I was minding my own business. And now this. Fantastic”.

Kaduna Governorship Aspirant’s 17 Children Buys APC Forms For Their Father

Seventeen children of an APC governorship aspirant in Kaduna State, Sani Sha’aban, came together and bought the forms for their father to contest the 2023 governorship election in the state.

What was trending in the political arena before Thursday was for “pressure groups’’ and “friends’’ to pick the forms for aspirants in virtually all the political parties, but in this case, his children got the form for him

Asmau Sani-Sha’aban, eldest daughter of the governorship aspirant, confirmed on Thursday in Abuja that the children came together and contributed the N50 million needed to pick the forms.

She said the forms were gifts from the children to “our father, who is an astute politician with great competence and ability.

“He has what it takes to govern and to bring lasting peace to Kaduna State.

“His chances of emerging victorious in the election are bright because the people love and admire him.’’

Asmau, a construction engineer, described her father as a man with empathy who relates well with all, including with the less privileged.

She assured Kaduna State residents that if elected as governor in 2023, her father would address issues of insecurity in the state by creating employment.

“He believes that insecurity in the state is caused by lack of jobs.

“To him, if the people are properly engaged, and there are enough jobs, issues of insecurity will be brought to an end as the people will be gainfully employed.

“If there are enough jobs, insecurity in the state wouldn’t be as bad as it is today,’’ she said, adding that her father’s priority would be education and advancement of technology.

Still expanding on her father’s selling points, Asmau said Mr Sha’aban would address the infrastructure deficit in Kaduna State if elected governor in 2023.

South-East 2023 Presidency And Misplaced Blame on Ugwuanyi

I read with great concern the write-up ascribed to Ohaneze Youths about Ugwuanyi not lending his full support to the struggle for 2023 Igbo Presidency. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has had to endure a barrage of unfair attacks, but I really think this is the most unjustified. Is it the same Ugwuanyi that has participated and represented the interest of the South-East in all the meetings convened by Southern Governors towards the actualisation of a President of Southern origin? Is it the same Ugwuanyi that kept faith in the forum of Southern Governors even when other Igbo Governors disappeared from the scene? Ugwuanyi was in Lagos and Delta and then hosted the meeting himself. Can people be more unfair to one man?

I have enormous respect for Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi: he is calm, collected, solid and politically savvy. When he is attacked I feel personally pained. I know this is a man who would always want the best for his people. In January 2022 when Ugwuanyi hosted some Igbo-Haitians who had traced their roots back to Igbo-land, few people understood the political weight of that gesture. My foray into history has exposed to me that there is no tribe in Nigeria that suffered the impact of the slave trade as much as the Igbo. The slave trade took a huge toll on the numerical strength of the Igbo.

James Horton, a recaptured Igbo slave, who was re-settled in Freetown Sierra Leone formed the intellectual foundation of the present day Sierra Leone. How many Igbo know this history? It is true of Liberia as much as it is of South America. If half of the Igbo people scattered across many continents would trace their roots back to Igbo land, there is hardly an ethnic group, including the Hausa/Fulani that can challenge the Igbo numerically. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is the first Igbo politician to begin to beam the search-light in this direction. This is, for me, the supreme Igbo cause: re-bonding the Igbo, re-establishing the common identity of the Igbo people, and giving them a common front. As a historian that I am Ugwuanyi won my heart. I knew immediately that the man is more than a politician; he is an intellectual.

I am not from Enugu State, but my one year in the city as a corps member left an indelible impression on me. Coming from Benue State that is constantly under attack by bandits, Enugu was for me an El Dorado. In Enugu a visitor could take a trip round the city at night without fear of molestation. The kind of freedom I experienced in the Coal City State was such that two years after leaving the city I still remember it with a note of nostalgia. Alas, life’s struggle has forced me to bid farewell to that beloved city of gleaming lights!

I had the opportunity to meet with Governor Ugwuanyi when he visited our camp at Awgu. He was eager to know how we were faring, especially those of us who had come from other States. I had heard from several sources that Ugwuanyi is an extraordinarily brilliant man, but what I saw surpassed my expectation. An ardent listener and a keen intellect, he is an exceptional man on whom leadership sits so comfortably. After listening to us, he summed up our challenges and promised to respond. And he did respond! God bless Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

So, today when I stumbled upon an essay by Ohaneze Youths (I have not been able to confirm the true source of the write-up) insinuating that Ugwuanyi is not fully supporting the struggle to actualise the dream of an Igbo President in 2023, I shook my head in dismay.

Is Ugwuanyi to blame for the hiccups in the struggle for a President of South-Eastern origin? The answer is a definitive no! I am a card carrying member of PDP and a keen observer of the happenings in the party. I sense that what happened in 2019 is about to repeat itself. After Alhaji Atiku Abubakar won the primary election in Port-Harcourt. The PDP was upbeat. Victory was beckoning. However, events took a negative turn after Atiku unilaterally hand-picked Mr Peter Obi as his running-mate. It was as though the balloon of hope had been deflated. The momentum was gone! What was Atiku’s offence? He failed to collaborate with the leadership of PDP in choosing his running-mate. Mr Obi was not to blame, after all he did not choose himself.

But now that Mr Obi is his own principal, he seems to be repeating the same go-it-alone syndrome that crumbled the 2019 aspiration. How much has Mr Obi tried to build a common agenda with the leadership of PDP in the South-East? Does Peter Obi and other aspirants forget that it took the grit and resilience of some indefatigable party men and women to sustain the party after the exodus of some core members in 2021? And that such hard fighting men and women, who demonstrate faith to the party, especially in crisis moments deserve some respect?

The attack on Ugwuanyi is unfair. Ugwuanyi is a bridge-builder. He is the most acceptable Igbo politician beyond the South-East region. Is he expected to destroy the friendships he has manured and built across the regions just to be seen as supporting the Igbo cause? What is more Igbo cause than leveraging our good relationship with people from other zones at a moment time like this? Ugwuanyi had been to Port-Harcourt to commission projects. Nyesom Wike mobilised his entire Cabinet to pay Ugwuanyi a visit at his country home in December 2021. At this time that the Igbo are eager to warm themselves into the hearts of other regions would it have been right for Ugwuanyi to send his PA to receive Wike at the airport? Beyond politics is humanity, bonding, and friendship. I really think Ugwuanyi deserves an apology.

Fire Guts TB Joshua’s Property, Destroys Tomb Shelter

Fire has destroyed the tomb shelter of the late founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Prophet Temitope Joshua, in the Agodo area of Ikotun, Lagos State.

According to report, the fire started around 6.30pm on Wednesday.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said no one could tell if anybody died in the incident.

He said, “The affected property is on Ajisebiri Street, Agodo. The house started burning around 6.30pm and as I speak with you, fire service officials are trying to put out the fire.

The compound of the house is big, so nobody can see what they are doing inside. Also, officials putting out the fire didn’t allow anybody inside.”

The Acting Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye, who also confirmed the incident, said the fire had been put out.

He said, “The incident happened at a building belonging to the late pastor. The late pastor usually went there to relax and meditate. Federal fire service officials moved in to put out the fire.”

The Head, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, Margaret Adeseye, said the fire affected the shelter covering the late pastor’s tomb.

She said, “It is confirmed that a section around the tomb of the late pastor TB Joshua caught fire. A shelter was built to cover the tomb because it is an open place, so, it was the shelter that caught fire. But we were able to curtail it and it did not spread beyond where it started from. We have yet to identify the cause of the fire.

Delta House of Assembly approved a request by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for a bridging finance facility of N150 billion in favour of the state government.

The governor’s request is contained in a letter read at the plenary of the assembly by the Speaker, Sheriff Oborevwori, in Asaba.

“The requested credit facility, which has Zenith Bank PLC as the lead arranger, would be principally tailored toward defraying arrears of unpaid certificates earned by contractors for the completion of some critical ongoing legacy projects awarded by past and present administrations in the state,” Mr Okowa said.

The governor also said that part of the loan would be tailored toward taking care of outstanding pension commitments to the state and local government areas pensions in the contributory pension scheme, amounting to N20 billion and N10 billion, respectively.

“The speaker and members of the state house of assembly, I wish to inform you that the state is expecting a refund from the Federal Government, being Petroleum Subsidy Payments made without recourse to the 13 per cent derivation due to oil-producing states from January 1999 to November 30, 2021.

“Delta state’s portion in this regard amounted to N270.6 billion.

“Bearing in mind the administration’s resolve to finish strong, it is necessary for the state to capitalise on the refund to defray arrears of unpaid certificates earned by contractors with respect to completion of some critical ongoing legacy projects awarded by past and present administrations” the governor said.

Consequently, the motion for the approval of the credit facility was moved by the majority leader of the assembly, Ferguson Onwo.

The motion, which was unanimously adopted by the house when put to a voice vote by the speaker, was seconded by the Chief Whip, Pat Ajudua.

Yahaya Bello Beats Tinubu, Others To Buy N100m APC Presidential Forms

Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi on Tuesday beats the national leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and other presidential aspirants the platform of the party to obtain the N100 million presidential Expression of Interest and  Nomination forms to contest the 2023 presidential election.

The governor paid for the N100 million forms on Tuesday morning, making him the first to officially seal his aspiration to the office of the President in 2023, a statement by Director, Media and Publicity, Yahaya Bello Presidential Campaign Organisation, Yemi Kolapo, said.

The governor had declared his presidential ambition at the Eagle Square in Abuja on April 2, 2022.

He is contesting despite the agitation for zoning of the office to the South. Bello hails from the North Central where the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu, also comes from.

Kolapo in a statement said, “With the payment for the forms, Governor Bello’s teeming supporters should rest assured that he will be on the ballot in the 2023 presidential race. We are highly encouraged by the number of APC Governors, leaders and stakeholders who have demonstrated their strong support for the candidacy of our principal. We reiterate that he is not known for betrayal. He is always very loyal to his own and his priorities have always been Nigeria.

“Though the race officially begins now, it is on record that Governor Bello has consistently been at the forefront of the contest. He has demonstrated this again by being the first to pay for the forms.

“We urge delegates and indeed all Nigerians to shun divisive narratives in the interest of the nation and choose the best of the lot. We have no doubt that our tested and trusted National Working Committee members will put the interest of the party and that of Nigeria first in their activities around the process that will throw up the next flag bearer of the APC.”

He then later returned to Kaduna State in April to ask each member of his church to pay him N310,000 before they would be allowed to follow him to Omuo-Ekiti, where “the gate of heaven will open for all of them to fly to heaven”.

According to the source, Abraham also assured the members that they would all ‘ascend to heaven together from the location in Ekiti’.

“My relative has also asked her daughter, who is studying abroad, to return to Nigeria, or else the pastor (Abraham) would make her commit an offence over there that would see her go to jail,” the source said.

The newspaper also obtained a WhatsApp conversation that backed up the source’s claim. It was the conversation that reflected what the pastor’s follower told her daughter.

“Daddy Abraham said I should tell you to come back, that he is the one who makes you to come down to Nigeria [sic] and I was the one who gave you the chance to return back there, that I should also know how you will come back [sic] or he will make you to commit an offence over there and they will put you in prison. That he probably send you down so you will achieve your goals [sic],” the chat read.

“Please Elizabeth, if there is how you will help yourself to come back, I will be glad [sic]. Don’t let daddy put any one of you in trouble.”

Another member of the church who is currently in camp in Ekiti said that Abraham’s campers still go about their normal businesses on regular days.

The follower also said “saved members” left their “past lives” behind in Kaduna to join the pastor in Ekiti on April 6. He confirmed that they would be at the camp with the pastor “until the day of rapture”.

According to the member, Abraham still holds regular church services on Sundays and Wednesdays.

“We are not coming back. I can’t explain in details,” the member said.

“We are going to make rapture from here. We are going to a heavenly place.”

MURIC Opposes Lagos APC’s Endorsement Of Governor Sanwo-Olu For Second Term

A Muslim rights advocacy group, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has opposed the endorsement of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a second term.

The group noted that Christians have had their two terms and that it is the turn of Muslims to produce the Lagos governor in 2023.

MURIC’s position was stated in a statement on Monday signed by the director of the organisation, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

The statement reads: “Leaders of the ruling party in Lagos, the All Progressives Congress (APC), last week endorsed the incumbent governor of the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for a second term in office for the 2023 gubernatorial election.

“Unfortunately, this endorsement violated a long-standing albeit unwritten rule on rotational governance between Christians and Muslims in Lagos State.

“It is on record that ex-Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, a Christian, spent four years in office and another Christian, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was brought in ostensibly to complete the Christians’ two terms which expire by May 2023, when a Muslim, ceteris paribus, is expected to take over the reins of office.

“That is why Muslims in Lagos State regard the recent endorsement given to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to run for the Christians’ third term as unfair, unjust and provocative.

“It may not be known in official circles but Lagos Muslims are grumbling and we have been under pressure for some time now to speak up. It is a dangerous dimension capable of eliciting protest bulk vote against the ruling party unless the issue is ironed out at a roundtable between leaders of the party, the Lagos State Government (LASG) and Lagos Muslims.

“For the avoidance of doubts, MURIC has no intention of hijacking control of the Muslim community in the state. We always recognise established leadership structures wherever they exist and Lagos Muslims have that structure.

“The Muslim Community of Lagos State which is under the able leadership of Professor Tajudeen Gbadamosi is the appropriate body to meet for the purpose of negotiating with Lagos Muslims. All Islamic organisations in Lagos State are under this body. The onus is therefore on LASG and leaders of the ruling party to reach out to the Muslim Community of Lagos State.

“MURIC rejects exclusivism in matters of governance. Lagos Muslims are taxpayers and key stakeholders in issues affecting the welfare of Lagos citizens. We must therefore be consulted on matters of governance.

“We refuse to be blindfolded on the way to the polling booth. Neither shall we be satisfied just as voters; we must also be voted for. That is the essence of democracy. It must be participatory. The choice of candidates and leadership must not be lopsided in a democracy. Every segment of society must be consulted.

“We, therefore, fault the process that led to the emergence of the incumbent governor as the flagbearer of the ruling party in the coming gubernatorial election. 2023 belongs to Muslims in Lagos State. Any deviation from this must be properly negotiated.

“For instance, if the Christians are going to enjoy the luxury of a third term by giving Sanwo-Olu the mandate to run for a second term, an agreement must be reached with Lagos Muslims guaranteeing twelve years of Muslim rule after Governor Sanwo-Olu. Anything short of this is tantamount to an attempt to shortchange Muslims in the state.”

“The narratives have changed. Muslim leaders are no longer satisfied with crumbs from the table. Giving the Imams rams during festivals and sponsoring Muslims on hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) are deliberate means of enslavement and marginalization. Lagos Muslims are now fully aware of the gimmicks,” it added.

It’ll Be Betrayal, Injustice To Nigeria If I Don’t Contest For 2023 Presidency – VP Yemi Osinbajo Says

The Vice President if Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo said it would be an injustice if he did not contest the 2023 election with his vast experience in the last seven years in office.

Mr Osinbajo, who said this when he visited Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, said retiring to Ikenne, his hometown, or Lagos would also betray Nigeria.

“I think It will be a betrayal to our country, to our nation, this is a nation that many people died for, people died for this country, if I, with all that has been given to me by the grace of God, retire quietly either to Lagos or Ikene and go and be writing my memoirs.

“It will be great injustice to our country, that is why I throw my hat in the ring and ensure I make the best case for the position ofPresident of Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

The vice president hailed President Muhammadu Buhari’s open-mindedness in delegating serious tasks that had aided his experience.

He said that God puts people in power but noted that it would be a betrayal of his country for him to retire with all his exposure in government.

“There is nobody that can bear anything God does not decide that he would be, only God can make a person president, vice president, governor, anything whatsoever.

“President Muhammadu Buhari, just out of his open-mindedness and his own generosity ensured that I was given very serious responsibilities as vice president and I also acted as president.

“In those capacities, I got to know so many things that most people will never come across, even people in government will never come across, and I gained a lot of experience on that account.

“Many times the president, when he was away, said pointedly to me that look, I don’t want to feter your discretion in any way, as acting president, you are president, just make sure you are fair and just, don’t refer anything to me, don’t ask me any questions, just do whatever you need to do,” he saiad

2023: No Cabal Can Impose President On Nigerians – Anyim

A presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Pius Anyim, has assured Nigerians that no cabal in Nigeria’s seat of power would dictate to the country who the next president will be.

Anyim said any Nigerian with the impression that some inner caucus arrangement would produce the president in 2023 should come off it, noting that he would have his first shot at the presidential seat in 2023 and would win it.

The former President of the Senate spoke while featuring on a programme, Political Roundtable, on Lagos Mainland FM on Sunday.

Asked by a caller how he intended to deal with the ‘cabal’ in Aso Rock to become the next president, Anyim said, “Maybe you still have the impression that it is Aso Rock that will ordain who the next president will be. I do not share that view.

“I think with the new Electoral Act, people have more confidence that their votes will count.

“Whether cabal or no cabal, I am going to give my first shot at the presidency and I will win.”

Asked further if he would have a cabal in Aso Rock if he emerghed victorious at the 2023 polls, he said, “I want to say that I will run an inclusive government and the principles of democracy would be deployed.

“I am a young man with all respect and I have a whole lot of energy, so there is nothing to leave for anybody to do for me differently. I will be hands-on on the job and get the job done. It is when you are not hands-on before that you allow some people to come.”

Speaking on zoning, Anyim reiterated that it was only fair that the PDP zoned its presidential ticket to the south, which should, in turn, micro-zone it to the South-East.

According to him, if the PDP decides not to follow its constitution, it would, in the long run, weaken the system which would no longer have the power to protect its members.

According to command’s spokesperson, Ajayi Okasanmi, “They attempted to evade the officers on stop and search, which aroused the suspicion of the operatives. Consequently, the suspects were hotly chased and forced to stop. In the process of searching them, a bag containing a fresh human head and hands were found in their possession.

Upon interrogation, the suspected ritualists stated that they were taking the fresh human head and hands to an alfa in Ilorin for ritual purposes.”

Alaafin Of Oyo Told Us His Forefathers Were Calling Him Two Weeks Ago – Aide Reveals

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, had a premonition of his death, an aide of the palace has claimed.

She said this while speaking with journalists at the Alaafin of Oyo’s palace on Saturday.

The palace worker urged people to find solace in the fact that the late monarch lived a worthy life.

The aide said, “My father has gone to meet his forefathers. Atanda (Alaafin) went to play with his forefathers. He is not dead.

“Two weeks ago, he called and told us that his late father was calling him to come. We were afraid and asked if truly he saw his father.

“He ascended the throne at a young age and was wealthy and blessed with long life, preserved the stool, promoted the Yoruba culture and was an epitome of royalty. We are happy to have him as the Alaafin.”

The monarch died at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Friday.

2023 Presidency: I Didn’t Blast, Northern Elders, Reject PDP Consensus Candidacy — Obi

Former Governor Peter Obi has dismissed a viral story where it was alleged that he blasted the Northern Elders and also rejected Peoples Democratic Party consensus candidacy for the 2023 presidential election.

This was contained in a statement on Sunday from Obi’s Media Office, signed by his Media Adviser, Valentine Obienyem.

The statement said Obi did not at any point “blast” or reject the consensus candidacy position of PDP.

Obienyem said: “Anyone who has followed Peter Obi”s political journey will agree that he sticks to issue-based politics. He does not go around criticizing people, organisations or institutions blindly.

“He invests his focus, energy and time on preferring solutions to the myriads of challenges burdening our nation, Nigeria.

“As a loyal party member, Peter Obi has always abided by the rules, regulations and decisions of the party.

“He cannot possibly criticize the party’s decision in public.”

Reacting to the viral video where it was alleged that Obi rejected the consensus candidate position of the party, Obienyem said: “I just read through it and they claim ‘Peter Obi addressed reporters after paying a visit to AIT office.’

“But they failed to provide the where and when, which are fundamental elements of verifying any credible news report.

“If the medium based their report on what Obi said after one of his consultations, then they might have, out of mischief or incompetence or both, deliberately misrepresented Obi by reporting him out of context.

“Obi simply stated that Nigerians care less about whether a consensus candidate emerges or not, but they desire a competent, credible and capable leader who will rescue the nation from all round decadence and position it on the path of progress.

“Therefore, as a party faithful, Peter Obi will neither stand against nor publicly criticize any progressive decision taken by the Peoples Democratic Party.

“Beyond party politics, he desires for a candidate willing and capable of serving Nigeria at the highest level, and piloting the nation out of its present deplorable state.

“That is what he desires, whether the candidate emerges through consensus arrangement or not.”

Obienyem advised media practitioners to avoid telling unverifiable stories capable of heating up the polity.

How Nigerian Ports Authority Managing Director, Koko Bought £1.75Million Mansion In London While ‘Serving As Amaechi’s Bank Account Officer’

According to report the Kebbi state-born banker was the Zenith Bank accounts officer to Rivers state government when Rotimi Amaechi was governor.

Mohammed Bello Koko, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) bought a house worth £1,750,000 in the United Kingdom in 2015, a document seen by reporters has revealed.

Bello Koko had worked in the banking circles in Rivers for a long time, rising to become deputy regional manager at Zenith Bank Plc.

In 2016, the 53-year-old Bello-Koko was appointed executive Director of NPA after he proceeded on a leave of absence from the bank in 2015.

He was in charge of finance and admin under the sacked MD, Hadiza Bala-Usman.

The document seen by Reporters showed that the mansion located at 2A Beech Hill, Barnet, Greater London, EN4 0JP was bought by Bello-Koko on November 06, 2015, at £1,750,000.

The 7-bedroom freehold detached house is currently ranked as the 11th most expensive property in EN4 0JP, with a valuation of £2,274,000.

“Since it last sold in November 2015 for £1,750,000, its value has increased by £524,000,” an estate developer website, The Move Market said.

“2A Beech Hill, Barnet has 3 transactions recorded with HM Land Registry - its market value today is £2,274,000.

“The current owner bought the property in November 2015 for £1,750,000 and has lived here for 5 years. Since the current owner purchased the property, its value has increased by £524,000 (29.9%).

“The previous owner had the property for 4 years, having purchased it in October 2011 for £1,200,000.

“During this time, the price rose by £550,000 (45.8%), which equates to it increasing in value by 9.7% each year. The property turned out to be a really good investment for the previous owner.”

Anti-corruption Group Speaks

Meanwhile, an anti-corruption group, 'Say No To Corruption In Nigeria' has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to extend its searchlight on Bello-Koko and the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

“It’s no more a secret that Bello-Koko was Amaechi’s account officer for years. He has been a crony for Amaechi’s corrupt practices,” the coordinator of the group, Ahmed Abubakar said.

“How will it be that in 2015, Bello-Koko acquired a property worth £1,750,000 in the United Kingdom, a few months after Amaechi left office as governor and him being his account officer?

“His last position in Zenith Bank before he went on leave was deputy regional manager, how was he able to afford a house of that amount in 2015? These are questions begging for answers.

“This man was in charge of finance and admin under Bala-Usman in NPA then. Under normal circumstances, he should be the primary target for the probe that sacked the woman. After all, the allegations investigated fell directly under his department.”

Abubakar added, “As Nigerians prepare for the elections, it is critical that the world pays significant attention to the ongoing campaigns to determine who becomes the President of Nigeria come May 2023. While many candidates appear to have the right pedigree to be seeking this exalted office, Rotimi Amaechi stands out as too decidedly corrupt and morally bankrupt to be doing so.

“Amaechi served as Speaker of Rivers State (an oil-rich state in Southern Nigeria) for 8 years and went on to serve as governor of the state for another 8 years. For the past 7 years, he has been Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation.

“During these 23 years, Amaechi has become a master of awarding dubious contracts to phoney companies, for non-existent jobs, often to political cronies, who it appears, served as his own purses for the proceeds of these contracts.

“Amaechi’s pattern of corruption reared its head recently in the wake of the unfortunate attack on a train travelling between Abuja, the nation’s capital city, and Kaduna, a critical metropolis in the Northwest of the country. During his inspection of the damage, he blamed the current government, of which he is a member of the Executive, for moving too slowly to award the contract he had pushed for securing the rail lines.

“The very next day, minutes from that Executive Council Meeting were released to show that Mr. Amaechi had intended to award the contract worth N3.7 billion (about $8.5 million) to a company that was registered only two years ago with no prior record of security jobs, and a turnover of less than $190,000. It is on the basis of these questionable details that the proposal was denied.

“Sad as this episode might be for Nigerians given the loss of lives on that train attack and the continuing hostage of many of the passengers on that train, this pattern of fictitious contracting is one that Mr. Amaechi appears to have unfortunately mastered to perfection. And it is one that Nigerians should be aware of and as such, not reward him with the highest office in their country.

“During his term as governor of Rivers State, Amaechi routinely broke his own procurement laws and awarded contracts involving large sums of money to many questionable causes and invisible services. Using several personal and corporate proxies, hundreds of billions of Rivers State taxpayers' monies were simply siphoned off the state’s coffers by his cronies.

“For example, Amaechi’s government awarded a contract and paid a company named Magnum and Hunter Limited received several hundreds of millions from the Rivers State Sport Ministry Account Number 0006786960 in a leading Nigerian Bank. Yet, a search of this company in Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) suggests the company is not registered and has no track record upon which that contract should have been awarded.

“Similarly, a few weeks after Lemaco Engineering Limited was registered in Port-Harcourt, the State capital, the government awarded it a lucrative contract for which it received almost N850 million from the Rivers State Sports Ministry’s account in the same bank. A search on CAC’s website indicates the current status of this company is now unknown. Unsurprisingly, and in line with Amaechi’s modus operandi, Lemaco Engineering Limited was floated by his close confidant, Victor Giadom, who for several years served as a critical cabinet member in Amaechi’s government.

“Many other contracts were awarded like Lemaco’s in which the companies are formed hurriedly by apparent cronies, they receive a huge contract, monies are paid upfront, with no discernible goods supplied, services rendered or benefits received for the citizens of the State. Such companies and deals include ones given to Opriala Integrated Services which received N103 million, Faribo Nigeria Limited which got over N920 million, Klear Image Limited, which received N216 million, and Tawfik Engineering Limited which received N143 million from the River State Ministry of Works.

“A search of these companies in CAC’s database indicates they do not exist and may have been Special Purpose Vehicles in a grand scheme of money laundering and corruption. Another pattern of transactions that pervaded his time as Governor were basically huge sums of payments in cash to individuals. These transactions appeared fraudulent because they were not only conducted in cash but with no descriptions whatsoever for their benefits to the taxpayers Mr. Amaechi swore to serve.

“For example, in a single day and for no recorded purpose, a senior official of the Finance Ministry named J. P. Brown made cash withdrawals of N10 million each totalling N950 million from the Rivers State Sub Treasury Pension Account Number 6010944734 in a first-rate commercial bank. At the time of this withdrawal, the main account officer of Rivers State was a gentleman named Mohammed Bello-Koko, who was later arrested and imprisoned by Nigeria’s anti-graft agency.

“Once Amaechi became a powerful Minister, he worked out his release and made Mr. Bello-Koko an Executive Director in charge of Finance at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), an agency under Mr. Amaechi’s Transportation Ministry. As a reward for continued cooperation and connivance for such corrupt deals, Mr. Amaechi recently ensured the promotion of Mr. Bello-Koko to the post of CEO of the NPA. A forthcoming essay will expose such recent deals at the NPA.

“Similar to the withdrawal above, Amaechi presided over many such cash withdrawals from the state’s treasury by cronies and friends. In August 2012, an individual named Atu Komily received a cash payment of N110 million in tranches of N10 million each from the Deputy Governor’s Overhead Account Number 5030000382 domiciled in a mid-level Nigerian bank. The same individual received N430 million in cash payments from the same bank a few weeks later. Similarly, cash payments of N230 million and N190 million were made from the same account to Kiri Okeanyi and Mabel Worika respectively.

“These withdrawals were done in tranches of N10 million and N20 million each in July 2012. Also, cash payments in tranches totalling N350 million were made to an individual named Daobu Harry in September 2012 from the Rivers State Sports Ministry Account Number 5030032978 in the same mid-level Nigerian bank.

Reasons Gospel Singer Osinachi Stayed With ‘Abusive’ Husband – Brother Reveals

Chiemerie, brother to late gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu, has revealed that the late singer refused to divorce her husband, Peter Nwachukwu, because her followers might perceive her negatively if she quit the relationship.

He said she did not want people to describe her as a divorced Christian singer.

I knew Osinachi very well. She was very quiet and God-fearing,” media reports quoted Chiemerie to have said.

“She was just hiding all these things so people will not talk about her and say she is divorced. So, the man was dealing with her and she was dying slowly.”

Osinachi died on April 8 follow years of alleged domestic violence from Peter, her husband who has since been arrested and will, according to the police, be prosecuted.

Breaking: Alaafin Of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi Dies At 83

Accordingly to reports a top Yoruba monarch, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has died.

This online newspaper understands that Alaafin Adeyemi, the third from the Alowolodu Ruling House, died in the late hours of Friday at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State in South-West Nigeria.

He was 83 years old and the longest reigning Alaafin ever, having ruled for 52 years.

The remains of the top Yoruba traditional ruler were brought to Oyo town, 62 kilometres from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in the early hours of Saturday and traditional rites began, palace sources told this newspaper.

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, is expected to make an official announcement upon receiving the report of the monarch’s passing from the Bashorun of Oyo, Yusuf Akinade, the head of the ‘Oyo Mesi’, who will now lead Oyo town before a new Alaafin is installed.

The monarch had been sick and a plan had been made to fly him abroad before he passed on late Friday night.

A source familiar with the medical travel plan said his tickets and those of a few wives were already procured.

His death came months after the two other senior Oyo State monarchs – the Olubadan of Ibadan, Saliu Adetunji, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Jimoh Oyewumi – died. All happened in less than five months.

A new Olubadan has been installed but the Soun throne remains vacant.

Alaafin Adeyemi was born Lamidi Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi on October 15, 1938 into the Alowolodu Royal House of the famous Oyo town.

He was crowned on November 18, 1970, succeeding Oba Gbadegesin Ladigbolu I. He was known popularly as Iku Baba Yeye.

While he reigned, he was the permanent chairperson of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.

With the demise of Alaafin Adeyemi, it is now the turn of the Agunloye Ruling House to produce the next Oyo monarch. Adeyemi’s predecessor, Alaafin Ladigbolu, was from the Agunloye House.
