With these words, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome on the first day of the Healing Streams Live Healing Services hinted of the special prayer session for families to round up the three-day miracles packed event today.

Meanwhile, a review of Day 2 of the July 2022 edition of Healing Streams Live Healing Services with Pastor Chris has shown that the phenomenal experience of Day 1 of the event set the second day for a whole new level.

 

The Healing Streams Live Healing Services began at 3:00pm GMT +1 with the Loveworld Singers taking the lead in a sonorous session of praise which spurred people around the world singing songs of worship to Jesus Christ the King.

 

Also, Pastor Deola Phillips began the service with these words: “We are the expression of God’s Word spoken of old; they are now manifest in us. The glory of God is seen all over the world through the Healing Streams Live Healing Services.”

 

After a session of prayers, she shared thoughts on the love of God, expounding on Pastor Chris' teachings from Day 1,  read from Jeremiah 29:11 and reminded the global audience of God’s thoughts towards humanity; thoughts of peace, divine health, and prosperity. 

 

She passionately spoke words of faith to all who expect miracles adding: “Today, this meeting is put together just for God’s purpose to be fulfilled in your life. You will be well today. Still building expectations, she shared remarkable testimonies from the publicity campaigns that led to the Healing Streams even as she disclosed that during one of the outreaches held by a team in India, a minister cast out devils from a woman who had been possessed for 35 years. “Today, the woman is sound and free”, she added.

Rev. Tom Amenkhienan, a senior minister at the Healing School, spoke on the impact of Day 1 of the Healing Streams and described the service as Heavenly.

Similarly, for the next segment, Rev. Ray Okocha took calls from healing centres across the world. Joining live to relate their experience so far and expectations were participants from Mexico and Poland. 

A participant from Poland was healed from knee problems which had lasted for 20 years.

Meleni from the USA received healing from umbilical hernia, multiple fibroids and cramps. A lady in the United Kingdom was healed of menorrhagia. Three years of bleeding came to an end as Pastor Chris ministered while  from China, Wang was healed from a 14-year-long back and neck pain. 

 

There was also a flow of healing streams, as the weak were strengthened, lumps and swellings disappeared, and pains ceased.

The man of God, Pastor Chris, continued with the ministration of the Word. Teaching from 1 John chapter 5, he pointed out that, “God has given us eternal life.”

5,000 APC Supporters Defect To PDP In Cross River

 

The battle for the soul of Cross River state has continued to gather momentum as about 5, 000 All Progressives Congress (APC) members have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the northern senatorial zone.

The defectors include former APC ward and chapter officers, women leaders, leaders of Hausa community in Ogoja, Yala, Bekwarra, Oabnliku, and Obudu.

Receiving the defectors at TTC field, Igoli-Ogoja, yesterday, the Vice Chairman of PDP Northern Senatorial district, Chief Austine Edibe, commended them for their courage to join the party in the nick of time.

Also speaking, Sen Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, advised the defectors to be loyal to the party at their various wards and be steadfast, assuring them of more empowerment programmes to accommodate them.

 “This is the time for the defectors to tie their belts and reject any form of inducements in readiness for the battle ahead,” he said.

Earlier, the former Deputy Governor, Efiok Cobham, said the defectors should join the “operation vote APC out,” urging them to get their PVCs ready to bring back PDP

 

Again: Terrorists Attack Guards Brigade Soldiers In Abuja

Scores of terrorists suspected to be members of the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) on Thursday night attacked soldiers of the Guards Brigade at the Zumu Rock, Madalla area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This is the second attack within 48 hours on the sit of power targeted at the elite brigade responsible for the safety of Presidential Villa, military formations and other critical national assets housing top hierarchy of government

The attacks came days after terrorists who kidnapped Abuja-Kaduna train passengers some months ago released a video where they threatened to kidnap President Buhari.

It was learnt that Thursday night’s attack occurred few minutes past 9pm at the 102 Guards Battalion along the Abuja/Kaduna expressway.

The terrorists were said to have gunned down some of the soldiers on duty in an attempt to take over the barracks but were later overpowered as reinforcement troops were drafted from closest police, military formations.

Hours before the attack, Nigerians on Twitter who reside in that axis raised alarm about heavy shooting around the Zuma Rock area with some alleging that criminals were kidnapping people.

It was learnt that all the barracks in the FCT are on red alert as the authorities have ordered soldiers to defend the city.

Sources said the battle lasted over 30 minutes and caused gridlock

Tinubu’s Age: I Stand By My Statement That He’s 86 Years Old — Tee Mac •Challenges APC Presidential Candidate To Ptoduce Birth Certificate

 

Renowned flutist, Dr. Omatshola Iseli, professionally known as Tee Mac, has refused to retract his claim that former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is actually 86 years of age and not 70 as he claims.

The former President of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) had recently made the claim while responding to a Facebook post by a supporter of Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 elections.

Reacting to viral reports on his claim, Tee Mac told a Lagos portal, The Frontier, last night (Thursday, July 2) that he did make the comments credited to him but explained that it was a private message to someone on Facebook, which he never knew would go public.

According to Tee Mac, he believes “the guy is one of those internet teams defending and countering anything not pleasing the Tinubu camp”.

“Tee Mac said he does not have any personal problems with Tinubu.

The light-skinned musician who is also into oil and gas business however said that he will not retract the story as the age he mentioned in his Facebook comment was what he knows to be the true age of the politician.

“He also added that he’s worried about Nigeria the way Tinubu purchased his presidential ticket.

“He challenged Tinubu and his camp to provide his (Tinubu’s) birth certificate to prove him wrong,” according to The Frontier.

Tee Mac also informed the paper that ever since the story of Tinubu’s true age credited to him went into the public domain, he has “received countless calls from all over the world” and has “replied countless messages, blogs etc”.

The full reaction of the musician, a cousin to Tinubu’s wife, Senator Remi Tinubu, addressed to The Frontier Publisher Sunny Okim, is as reproduced below:

“Dear Amb Sunny Okim, I had a busy day today with countless calls from all over the world. I replied countless messages, blogs etc. My response (to the story) is as follows: I replied to a Tinubu fan on Facebook. This was actually a private message, everything correct and to my best knowledge of Tinubu. I think the guy is one of those internet teams defending and countering anything not pleasing to Tinubu’s camp. I do not have any personal problems with Tinubu but honestly the way he purchased his presidential ticket made me to be worried about Nigeria. This guy posted my reply to many blogs, went into my Instagram and took a recent photo. It has gone viral and I received phone calls from all over the world. Let the Tinubu camp provide the birth certificate to prove me wrong! I am a proud Nigerian and pray that next year’s election will bring us a president who can take Nigeria out of all the problems like insecurity, inflation and poverty. We are the most blessed nation on earth with healthy people, natural resources and nothing should stop us from becoming a leading nation on this earth. Best regards Tee Mac.”

Tee Mac had stirred the hornet’s nest when he made the following comment on Facebook in response to a post by one Yemi Olakitan, who declared his support for Tinubu’s presidential aspiration:

“Dear Yemi. Anybody can choose any candidate, but an intelligent person will ask himself the question: do I choose rightly? Is the man qualified? Is he honest? Does he tell us the truth about his age, background, and how he made his money? Is this man healthy enough at 86 to take up the task of a totally run-down country?

“You see Tinubu is my in-law. His wife Remi is my cousin. Her Itsekiri mother and my Itsekiri mother are sisters. I have known Tinubu since the mid-80s personally and even arranged for him to stay in my stepfather’s house (Sir Mobolaji Bank-Anthony) in London when he went into exile.

“I stopped supporting him and stopped family visits etc when he sold that Buhari to the nation in 2015. My advice to the nation is that this man is absolutely not qualified to become our next president. Respectfully Tee Mac Omatshola Iseli.”

Buhari Is ‘Toothless’ Soon He Can Also Be Kidnapped Like Other Nigerians – Former President’s Ally, Galadima Fumes

 

Former chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who was a former ally of president Buhari, Buba Galadima, has said that the security situation in Nigeria has proved that Buhari knows nothing and cannot do anything to stop terrorism and banditry in the country.

 Mr Galadima, said this during an interview with BBC Hausa.

Galadima who is now a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), said with the lingering insecurity in Nigeria, Buhari may soon be kidnapped by terrorists.

Some terrorists have already threatened to kidnap President Buhari; governors, especially Kaduna governor, Nasir El-Rufai; and senators.

Speaking on the state of insecurity in Nigeria, Galadima said in Hausa, “These bandits are disdainful to the Buhari administration. At the beginning of the government, everybody was scared of him (Buhari); expected him to be brave before he was now exposed to be toothless.

“Buhari knows nothing, he can’t do anything, that is why you see government officials siphoning billions from public property and nobody can stop them.”

He further noted that if terrorists can attack and break Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, it shows that the President is not safe.

“If care is not taken, sooner or later Buhari too can be kidnapped considering the way security issues are ignored.

“The only option available now is to either continue praying or arm ourselves for protection but if we depend on this government, definitely we will be killed,” he said.

Tee Mac, also revealed that he was an in-law to Tinubu, noted that the former Lagos governor’s total existence was too shrouded in secrecy to be given the job of leading Nigeria.

The musician, made this revelation while responding to a Facebook post by one Yemi Olakitan, who was declaring his support for the politician, alleged that Tinubu was 86 years and not 70.

He, therefore, urged Nigerians not to vote for him, stressing that he was not qualified to run the country as president with all the unanswered questions surrounding his life.

Tee Mac however pointed out that, the controversies surrounding Tinubu’s age, background and how he made his money remained unresolved.

Again! Many Injured As Unknown Gunmen Attack Owo, Second Time In 7 Weeks

 

Residents Ondo state have been thrown into panic as unknown gunmen attack the ancient town again.

This is coming barely seven weeks after terrorists attacked worshippers at Owo, in Ondo state.

Many people were said to have been injured in the attack which took place Wednesday evening, at Folahami Junction, where a construction company called Craneburg Construction Company was located.

It was reported that the gunmen opened fire on those at the site.

Further report also claimed that some explosives devices were also used during the attack.

However, the casualty figure was yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report but many people were said to be injured in the attack.

It’s Ungodly For Anyone To Field Muslim-muslim Ticket, APC Is Seriously Working Against Nigeria’s Unity – Yakubu Dogara Says

Yakubu Dogara, former Speaker House Of Representative has condemned the decision of presidential candidate Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to field a Muslim/Muslim ticket in 2023. The action threatens the unity of the country, he says.

 Speaking at the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN)’s 12th General Assembly and Leadership Transition Ceremony, Mr Dogara declared that political permutations which do not reflect religious balance in the country are against the unity and stability of the country.

He commended CAN’s position on the matter, describing it has “Godly.”

“I want to say emphatically that CAN’s position on Muslim/Muslim ticket in this country, at this moment of national peril, is not CAN’s only position, I believe that is God’s position.

“We serve a God of justice, our God is righteous, our God is the author of diversity, and he wants as diverse as we are to come together. So, CAN’s position as much as it is a righteous position, it is the position of all of us who live righteousness, justice, diversity and are working to harness it for the advancement of this country,” he said.

Mr Dogara’s featured among a select list of northern Christian politicians that had been suggested to Mr Tinubu as his probable running mate. The presidential candidate however turned them down.

CAN leaders have said over the past month that the same faith ticket is an insult to the vast population of competent Christians in the North and across the country. It also added that the decision is insensitive and capable of setting the nation on fire.

“We are all aware that in the past weeks, the Nigerian mainstream media and the general public have been occupied with the discussions on the Muslim-Muslim ticket by the All Progressive Congress (APC), one of the political parties in the build-up to the 2023 general elections.

“We clearly want to emphasize that this is not healthy for the highly diversified Nigerian space, especially in the face of the growing and alarming insecurity in our nation at the moment. Any well meaning presidential candidate will focus the all inclusive Federal Character.

“Consequently, the Nigerian Christian youth are not unaware of division and tension currently overheating an heated polity in Nigeria and, therefore, will not support or encourage any action or decision capable of further dividing and setting this nation on fire.

“Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket insults the sensitivity of Nigerians and the Christian youths are saying a big NO!” Alfred Olushola, North Central president of the body had said.

Despite public discomfort and wide criticism of the same faith ticket of the APC, its flag bearer Mr Tinubu and other stalwarts have insisted that the party is making the right choice and other marginalised groups such as the northern Christians have nothing to fear.

Herbalist Arreigned Before Magistrate Court Over Rape Of Three Junior School Students

 

A 67-year-old herbalist, Saadu Alabi and one AbdulGaniyu Haruna were on Tuesday arraigned before a Kwara State Magistrate Court over alleged rape of three underage students of a Community Junior Secondary School in Ilorin.

Saadu and Haruna, a 38-year-old friend of one of the victims’ fathers were alleged to have had carnal knowledge of the girls on several occasions.

The duo is facing a case of having unlawful sexual intercourse with the children contrary to Sections 31(2) of Child Right Law of Kwara State before the court.

Police First Information Report said that the suspects were alleged to have sexual intercourse with the minors who are all twelve years old severally under the disguise of helping them to do invisible charm (also known as Afeeri).

According to the police report, the matter was reported by a member of International Federal of Women Lawyer, who claimed Abdulganiyu who lives in the same area with one of the victims, had carnal knowledge of her in his room on several occasions.

The report read, “On 20/07/2022 at about 1500hours, a Legal practitioner of FIDA, Ilorin branch received a call from SUBEB Secretary, Ilorin that there is a case of one elderly man having sexual intercourse with three school children all aged 12.

 “The Police were later called and moved into the case and met the three minors (names witheld) who confessed that the suspects have sexual intercourse with them at different occasions.

“One of the victims (name witheld) said further that one Abdulganiyu ‘m a close friend to her father has been having sexual intercourse with her in his room on several occasions and Saadu Alabi ‘m’ aged 67 years of No. 8, Arobi compound, Okekere promised to do invisible charm (Afeeri) for them.”

When the case was mentioned in court, the plea of the two suspects was not taken since the court lacks jurisdiction on the matter.

The Prosecutor, Abdullahi Sanni, however, informed the court of the motion exparte attached to the police report, urging the Magistrate to grant the prayers contained in the motion by ordering the suspects’ remand.

The trial Magistrate, Mr O. A. Idiagbon, in his short ruling ordered the remand of the suspect in the Federal Correctional Custodial Centre, Ilorin till August 4, 2022 for mention of the case.

Counsel to the suspects, Usman Omotosho said that the court could only cognisance of the matter but could not try it for lack of jurisdiction

Bishops Who Attended Shettima’s Unveiling May Be Fake – Rotimi Amaechi Says

 

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has reacted to the attendance of some people who paraded themselves as Bishop at the Unveiling of Shettima last week.

 Since after the event, there have been public criticisms and allegations that people who wore cassocks to the programme, appearing like bishops or other senior Christian clerics, were hired by the APC.

The incident caused a stir at the entrance of the venue as the crowd taunted them and shouted, “The bishops are here.”

However, the former Rivers State Governor, Amaechi said the ‘bishops’ who attended unveiling of Kashim Shettima as the vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) may not be real bishops.

Amaechi, however, said they are Christians.

Amaechi while speaking over the weekend at an event to mark the 60th birthday of Eugene Ogu, General Overseer of Abundant Life Evangel Mission in Port Harcourt, the Rivers capital, said the persons in question are Christians but many not be bishops, as portrayed.

“Those bishops you saw (at Kashim Shettima’s unveiling in Abuja], they may not be bishops, but they are Christians,” Amaechi said.

Rotimi Amaechi also said delegates, who sold their votes at the APC presidential primary election won by Bola Tinubu, were already regretting doing so.

“I don’t believe that is the solution to Nigeria’s problem — giving money. I hope you know. I give you N10 million now and when it finishes, what happens? The solution to Nigeria’s problem is that all of you must rise.

“God should save the ordinary Nigerian because they are the problem. Those who voted at the APC primary, who are they? The ordinary Nigerian. The small money they got solved their immediate problems.

“Now ‘oh we made a mistake,’ ‘we didn’t make a mistake.’ We are hearing different things. Pray for the leadership of the country, but also pray that ordinary Nigerians choose the right person to govern,” he said.

Resident of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja has been thrown into panic after terrorist attacked the presidential Guard Brigade leaving three soldiers and eight personnel dead.

 This is coming barely 24 hours after the terrorists threatened to abduct President, Buhari and Kaduna Governor Nasir el’Rufai in a viral video.

Three soldiers were however wounded during the attack, although, some reports says they are now dead.

The bandits were headed to the Nigerian Law School in Bwari when they ran into the troops.

There were Intelligence reports, according to military sources, the terrorists have laid siege to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with the intention to attack the Law School in Bwari and other government facilities.

It was aslo reported that the attack was a confirmation of the terrorists’ siege to the city but authorities said they were on the trail of the assailants.

According to one of the sources, troops of 7 Guards Battalion on routine patrol along Kubwa – Bwari road were ambushed by the suspected terrorists.

He added three soldiers were injured during the attack and have been evacuated to THE hospital for medical attention, but further report says they are now dead

“The ambush happening within the general area of Bwari shows that the terrorists are actually within the location and possibly to carry out their plans of attacking the Law School in Bwari as earlier reported,” the source stated.

President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to finally crush and decisively defeat bandit terrorists before leaving office in 2023.

Buhari made the promise in a statement on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

He said this while sympathising with the former Governor of Bauchi State and ex-PDP National Chairman, Adamu Muazu, over the killing of his brother and abduction of his sister by bandits.

The Nigerian leader expressed shock and outrage over the incident, saying that the protection of the lives and properties of citizens remains his topmost priority.

Buhari added that he has kept the service chiefs on their toes to ensure that they come up with a decisive solution to end this menace.

He, therefore, prayed to God to forgive the soul of the deceased and grant the family fortitude to overcome this double tragedy.

The terrorist who abducted passengers on the Abuja-Kaduna train on March 28 have threatened to abduct President Buhari, Governor El-Rufai, and others.

 The terrorists made the threat in the new now viral video they released showing how the abducted passengers are being flogged.

Recall that few weeks ago, the convoy of an advance team of the president was attacked on its way to President Buhari’s hometown of Daura ahead of Sallah.

Two persons sustained injuries in the attack. The attack on the convoy happened on the day when the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) invaded Kuje Prison in Abuja and freed over 800 inmates, including all the terrorists in detention.

In the new video released, the terrorists threatened that unless the government comply with their demands, they would turn the area into an abattoir.

Media Should Intervene To Rescue Kaduna Train Passsengers, Buhari Has Done His Best – Presidency Says

 

Presidency has reacted to the disturbing video making the rounds on social media where abductors of the Kaduna-Abuja Train passages were being flogged by their abductors.

 The presidency however, said President Muhammadu Buhari had done all in his power to rescue the abducted Kaduna train passengers languishing in captivity, noting that the efforts could be complemented if the media could stop amplifying materials from the abductors.

The statement came hours after a video showing the dozens of abducted victims being brutalised by armed bandits.

In the video, the victims cried for urgent support for rescue by the Buhari regime and foreign governments four months after their abduction along the Abuja-Kaduna tracks.

Some of the victims were freed after paying heavily, with some individuals reportedly paying as much as $400,000 each to be rescued.

“The President has done all and even more than what is expected of him as Commander-in-Chief by way of morale, materiel and equipment support to the military and expects nothing short of good results in the immediate,” a statement from the presidency said on Sunday night. “To help the nation against the ongoing situation, the media must increase their support for the fight against the exploitation of the internet and social media for terrorist purposes.”

The Buhari administration has insisted that it’s doing everything possible to free the victims, saying the situation had become more complicated than most Nigerians recognised.

Terrorist activity using propaganda and the use of violence to force governments to accept or submit to political demands is not new all over the world.

The country’s security and defence forces are not clueless or helpless. They have plans and ways of doing things that they will not display in the media.

The dilemmas in dealing with the specific case of train terrorists are manifold: punitive action like the popular call for carpet bombing of the known locations may assuage the desire of an angry public for revenge, but what about the hostages? They have committed no offence. All they did was board a train.

It suffices to say that the security forces are not relenting. They are acutely aware of their duties, responsibilities and what the nation expects of them. Whenever they embark upon those actions, they expect that the public should provide them with the needed support.

Terrorism is a global scourge that must be fought by all actors — the military, the civilian population and the communication service providers. This is the only way safe havens for terrorists are eliminated in every part of the world.

To help the nation against the ongoing situation, the media must increase their support for the fight against the exploitation of the internet and social media for terrorist purposes.

End Banditry Now Before They Kill Us All – Northern Youth Tells President Buhari

Mohammed Lawal, the Speaker, Northern Youths Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN), has called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly to eliminate the raving menace of banditry and kidnappings in the north.

 Mr Lawal, in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, also emphasised the need for the northern governors to evolve a new strategy to rid the region of all forms of criminality.

He said it was very imperative for the President and northern governors to eliminate banditry in the north before “banditry eliminates the region.

“Northern Nigeria was a relatively peaceful place with pictures of our leaders and forefathers sitting outside on their mats with their family and kinsmen.

“That blissful memory is fast fading away and the cries of banditry, terrorism, cattle rustling, farmer and herder clashes are staring us right in the face.

“Our farmers now pay protection taxes to bandits. Our sisters are kidnapped, raped for days and returned.

“We cannot keep quiet and pretend that all is well. The north is being engulfed,” he said.

The youth leader, however, expressed confidence in the ability and capability of Mr Buhari to tackle the ugly situation in no time.

“This is because we believe President Buhari has the best intention for the country, but intentions are clearly not good enough,” he said.

 

2023: Peter Obi Not Fit To Be Nigeria’s President – Atiku Says

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed the chances of the Labour Party in the 2023 election.

 In an interview on Arise TV on Friday, Atiku stated that the presence of this erstwhile running mate, Peter Obi, cannot boost the chances of the party, because it has no structure.

He said, “I really don’t expect the Labour Party to take as much votes from the PDP as people are suggesting. We could have seen it in the last election in Osun State. What was the performance of the Labour Party?

“This is a party that doesn’t have a governor, doesn’t have members of the national assembly, doesn’t have members of the state Houses of Assembly. And politics in this country depends on structures you have at those various levels; at the local level, at the state level and at the national level.

“It is very difficult for a miracle to happen, simply because Peter Obi is in the Labour Party.”

 

APC Muslim-muslim Ticket: I Never Endorsed Tinubu – Pastor Tunde Bakare Says

  

Pastor Tunde Bakare, the General Overseer of Citadel Global Community Church formerly known as Latter Rain Assembly, Lagos, has denied reports that he endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

 Bakare in a statement debunked the insinuations that he was working against the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on the Muslim-Muslim ticket by Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima.

The former APC presidential aspirant described the allegations as absolute lies.

“My attention has been drawn to the viral but concocted and ridiculous statements credited to me, by some unscrupulous writers and bloggers. Amongst other things, I was quoted to have said that the agitations by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) were ploys by the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to force a weak candidate on APC,” he said.

“In addition to this, I was alleged to have said that CAN wanted to lure APC into presenting a weak candidate. The spurious writers also alleged that I stressed that Christians are righteous people who behave like Christ, and that CAN are politicians who behave like PDP.

“As if the poorly strewn lies were not enough, I was quoted as saying that Tinubu is my candidate. Isn’t this the same Tinubu that I announced to all and sundry at the APC Presidential Convention that I was not stepping down for? He has suddenly become my candidate.

“I wish to state unequivocally that the statements are absolute lies. There was nowhere I granted anyone any interview or preached on any platform, where I said the ludicrous statements. I challenge anyone who is in possession of the video or audio file of the statements to please put it in the public space.”

Bakare urged Nigerians to disregard the statements, claiming it did not in any way represent his position.

Road To 2023: Court Permit Suit Seeking Bola Tinubu’s Trial Over Perjury

Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, November 1 2022, has been fixed by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to commence hearing on a suit seeking to compel the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Usman Baba, to initiate a perjury case against Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The court, in a ruling delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo, granted permission to the Incorporated Trustees of Center for Reform and Public Advocacy, a Civil Society Organization, CSO, to apply for an order of mandamus to compel the IGP to, in line with Sections 31 and 32 of the Police Act and Section 3 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2015, prefer charges against the APC flag-bearer, following an allegation that he lied on oath.

Justice Ekwo held that an ex-parte application the group brought before the court on Thursday was meritorious.

He, therefore, ordered service of all the relevant processes in the substantive suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1058/2022, on the Nigerian Police Force, NPF, and the IGP, who were cited as 1st and 2nd Respondents, respectively.

The group had through its team of lawyers, led by Mr. Ugo Nwofor, told the court that the suit was necessitated by the IGP’s refusal to take action on its petition against the APC’s presidential candidate over an offence it said was established by report of an investigation conducted by Lagos State House of Assembly in 1999.

The group told the court that it had earlier forwarded a petition to Police authorities, demanding further action on the said investigative report.

It maintained that by virtue of Sections 214 and 215, of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, as well as Section 4 of the Nigerian Police Act, 2020, the Police have the statutory responsibility to “prevent, detect and investigate criminal allegations, whether brought to their notice by individuals, person or persons, corporate bodies, institutions etc”.

It further claimed that by Section 31 of the Nigerian Police Act, the Respondents, are duty bound to investigate alleged crime brought to them and report their findings to the Attorney General of the Federation or of a state, as the case may be, for legal advice.

The Applicant added that by Section 32(1) of the Police Act, “a suspect or Defendant alleged or charged with committing offence established by an Act of the National Assembly or under any other laws shall be arrested, investigated and tried or dealt with according to the provisions of this Act, except otherwise provided under this Act”.

UN Commends Sterling One Foundation on the Africa Social Impact Summit

 

The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Nigeria Mr. Matthias Schmale, has commended the Sterling One Foundation for creating a convening to accelerate growth towards the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals across Africa. This was shared during the 2-day hybrid event held on July 13-14, 2022, at the prestigious Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja which had about 4,000 registered delegates from 55 countries. 

Giving a keynote address at the event on the theme, ‘Rethink, Rebuild, Recover, Accelerating Growth for the SDGs’, Mr. Schmale noted that the theme was apt, timely, relevant, and required given the economic regression across Africa occasioned by the pandemic, the volatilities caused by the Ukraine war and the fact there was just 8 years to go before 2030. He commended the leadership of the Sterling One Foundation stressing that there was need for intensive collaborations and partnerships among African leaders across the public and private sectors including the civil society groups to aid the achievement of not just the 2030 goals but also, the African Union’s 2063 goals. 

Also speaking at the event, Mrs. Olapeju Ibekwe, CEO, Sterling One Foundation, noted that the summit had in-depth and insightful panel sessions on climate action, education access and funding, primary healthcare, youth and gender empowerment, impact investment and governance which all give a good appreciation of the 17 interlinked global goals.  

She added that a recurring resolution that came through in all the panel sessions was the need for the elimination of silo executions and the embracing of collaborations by all sector players. Financing strategies, impact measurement and evaluation of such impact were also discussed as  

it was clear that the SDGs require financing to become a reality with an estimated amount of $1.3 trillion annually in Africa as shared by the UN and over $300 billion to block the gap in Nigeria.

Aftermath Of Osun Election: APC National Chairman, Adamu Warns Party, Says “We’ll Lose If We Take, PDP, Labour Party For Granted

“The other political parties want what we want, and that is, to win and form the next government,” Mr Adamu warned. “If by any acts of omission or commission we give in to bitterness and pettiness or fail to see the larger picture or take any of the political parties for granted. We will constitute an obstacle to the victory of our party.”

The party leader gave the note of warning at the unveiling of the party’s vice presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima, in Abuja.

Main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, as well as Peter Obi’s Labour Party are angling to take over reins of power from the ruling APC.

There have been bitter fallout after the choice of Mr Shettima as some Christian party leaders including former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal and Adamawa Senator Elisha Abbo said the choice of a Muslim-Muslim ticket was distasteful in the prevailing Nigerian circumstance that is enduring sharp divisions fuelled by ethno-religious sentiments.

But Mr Adamu holds that in picking Mr Shettima as his running mate, the APC presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu has chosen to walk along the path of great Nigerians like late MKO Abiola.

Mr Adamu said that the late MKO Abiola in the 1993 presidential election, chose a Kanuri man, Babagana Kingibe, from the North-East as his running mate.

“We are beginning to suspect there must be some synergy between the Yoruba people and the Kanuri people,” he joked. “Maybe there is a mutual attraction between them that the rest of us do not know, never mind, we will put the searchlight on them.”

According to him, the 1993 MKO Abiola-Kingibe presidential ticket and the current Tinubu-Shettima ticket, bridged one of our fault lines in the management of our diversities.

Mr Adamu said that Nigerians overwhelmingly voted for that ticket because they trusted Abiola, a man who opened his arms to every tribe and religion in the country to run an inclusive government.

He said that Mr Tinubu was a man who has also thrown his arms around every tribe in the country and has offered his shoulders for those in pain to lean on.

He noted that the party’s presidential candidate exercised that right with due consultations with stakeholders.

Mr Adamu said that Mr Tinubu, being an astute politician, couldn’t have made the choice of a running mate without widely consulting the party’s stakeholders, including President Muhammadu Buhari.

The national chairman said that having made his choice, the party wholly and unconditionally accepted Tinubu’s choice and had a duty to work for their victory in the 2023 poll.

The APC chair said Mr Tinubu chose Mr Shettima, a former two-term governor of Borneo, because he believed he is best fit to govern alongside him. He stressed that the running mate has earned his higher calling based on his antecedents over the years.

“But we must not be unmindful of the hurdles ahead, it is time to purge ourselves of the bitterness arising from our individual losses in the party primaries,” he cautioned.

Adamu added, “It’s time to submit ourselves to the will of God and the party and do nothing to sabotage its well-laid plans for victory.”

2023: I’ll Hand Over To You And Tinubu – Buhari Tells APC Vice-Presidential Candidate, Shettima

President Muhammadu Buhari has told the vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Kashim Shettima that he will respond to his speech when he is handing over to him and his boss, Bola Tinubu.

 Buhari said this while hosting Shettima at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday.

“I will respond to your speech when I am handing over to you and your boss. God willing, you are going to win,” Buhari was quoted in a statement released by Garba Shehu Senior Special Assistant to the President on Wednesday.

Buhari, who received the VP candidate shortly after he was unveiled by the leadership of the party and Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate, said he was very happy with the choice of the former governor of Borno State as Tinubu’s running mate.

“I wish you the best. Your consistency at the party is very respectful. You served your two terms as Governor and finished well. You have kept touch with your base. At every important occasion or event, you are maintaining support for the one who succeeded you. This is commendable,” he said.

The President expressed strong optimism that the APC ticket will emerge victorious in 2023.

In his remarks, Shettima thanked Buhari for his “empathy, support and positive role,” leading to his emergence as running mate to the APC presidential candidate.

He praised the President for having “a special place in your heart for Borno and Northeast,” adding, “I can cite 20-30 instances of support you have rendered, for which you will be remembered.”

Shettima asked Buhari to appreciate his successor, Babagana Zulum who was with him, along with the Minister of State for Agriculture, Mustapha Baba Shehuri, for his support.

He said he would not be for the “troika of Hausa, Fulani and Kanuri,” but for all of Nigeria, irrespective of ethnicity, religion or geographical place of origin.

 

I Didn’t Escape During Kuje Prison Attack, I Hid Like a Rat — Abba Kyari Tells Court

Abba Kyari, suspended deputy commissioner of police (DCP), says he hid like a rat during the recent attack on the correctional facility in Kuje.

Recall that on July 5, gunmen attacked the Kuje correctional facility and freed over 500 inmates, including suspected members of Boko Haram. Although, there were rumours that Kyari and other “high profile” inmates escaped, Abubakar Umar, spokesperson of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), denied the claim.

Moving another bail application at the court session on Wednesday, Kyari, through his lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu, told the court that he had the opportunity to escape but declined to do so. He said the invasion of the correctional facility has established “a special and exceptional circumstance” that should warrant the court to release him and his co-defendant on bail, pending the determination of the drug trafficking charge.

“My lord, every living soul in this country will agree that there was not just a breach, but that there was a grand terrarist attack by an organisation that not only successfully invaded the Kuje prison, but took control of it for over three hours. However, the applicant, being a law-abiding citizen, refused to take off.

If there is anything to establish that the defendants will not jump bail, it was that circumstance.

In fact, the defendant hid like a rat, because the organisation that conducted the attack went from cell to cell, saying they want to take him and the others to the desert. These people have suffered. They are traumatized by the events of that night. You can imagine what it felt like, witnessing the attackers planting explsives everywhere in the prison.”

The lawyer also said the defendants anticipated that the prison facility could be attacked, which was why they applied for bail previously but were denied. But Sunday Joseph, counsel to the NDLEA, opposed the bail application. Meanwhile, Emeka Nwite, the trial judge, adjourned ruling on the defendants’ fresh applications for bail till August 30.

Igini said, “A person who signs a nomination paper or result form as a candidate in more than one constituency at the same election (commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a maximum term of imprisonment for two years).”

Igini said by “constituency,” the electoral term refers to a separate election whether it is presidential, governorship, senatorial, the House of Representatives or that of state assembly.

He said any candidate who runs afoul of this law is liable to be jailed for two years, and that Section 115 (3) even states that an attempt to obtain multiple forms is an offence.

“Section 115 (D) of the 2022 Electoral Act stipulates that no person shall sign, obtain more than one form as a candidate for different elections.

“And the offence for that under subsection K, beyond the financial, he will go to two years’ imprisonment. Some people are claiming that they participated in one election, that they filled two forms; it’s ignorance of the law and it’s not an excuse.

“We are preventing them from being candidates for prison and they are calling our names everywhere,” the commissioner said.

He insisted that INEC did not monitor the primaries that produced Akpabio as the senatorial candidate for Akwa-Ibom North-West.

Akpabio had contested the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but he withdrew from the race on June 7, and asked his supporters to back Bola Tinubu, who eventually emerged APC presidential candidate.

Prior to the presidential primary, on May 27, Udom Ekpoudom, a former Deputy Inspector-General of Police, had won the primary election for the Akwa Ibom North-west senatorial ticket.

A parallel primary election was conducted and won by Ekperikpe Ekpo. However, it was later cancelled over irregularities, while a rerun was conducted on June 8, with Akpabio declared as winner of the exercise.

Lawan after losing the APC presidential ticket reportedly asked Bashir Machina, winner of the Yobe North Senatorial primary, to relinquish the ticket.

This implies that the senate president and Akpabio might have secretly obtained the nomination form for the senatorial seat of their respective districts while also seeking a presidential ticket.

By Igini’s submission, other politicians who might have violated the electoral act include Governors Ben Ayade of Cross River State, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State.

Petrol Pump Price Increase To N179 Per Litre – NNPC

 

Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has approved an upward review in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from N165 per litre to N179 per litre, effective Tuesday, July 19.

NNPC in a notice to fuel marketers directed them to change the petrol price on pumps to the new price effective today. This was even as the company equally increased the ex-depot price from N148.17 to N167 per litre.

This came after weeks of petrol scarcity resurfaced across the country as fuel retailers were adopting different price bands to force unofficial deregulation attempts.

Already, majority of filling stations in Lagos have adopted different price models. While some filling stations have changed the price on their meters to reflect the current price they are selling at, others have left theirs to show the approved retail price of N165 per litre but were selling above the displayed price, Guardian News reports.
