Oral Sex Now Leading Cause Of Throat Cancer – New Report

A newly published medical research has found that oral sex has become the leading cause of throat cancer, even reaching “epidemic” level in the UK and the U.S.

The research was conducted by Dr Hisham Mehanna of the University of Birmingham and published on April 25.

The report noted that “there has been a rapid increase in throat cancer in the West” in the last two decades.

“The prevailing theory is that most of us catch HPV infections and are able to clear them completely,” Mr Mehanna writes.

“However, a small number of people are not able to get rid of the infection, maybe due to a defect in a particular aspect of their immune system. In those patients, the virus is able to replicate continuously, and over time integrates at random positions into the host’s DNA, some of which can cause the host cells to become cancerous.”

People with “six or more lifetime oral-sex partners are 8.5 times more likely to develop oropharyngeal cancer than those who do not practise oral sex,” the report detailed.

Although over 80 per cent of adults reported practising oral sex at some point in their lives, “only a small number of those people develop oropharyngeal cancer,” the report stated.

It was also found that oral cancer has become more common than cervical cancer. Oral sex is now a bigger risk factor, more than smoking alcohol consumption, and an unhealthy diet, which is due to one particular type of throat cancer – oropharyngeal cancer – which affects the area of the tonsils and back of the throat and is due to the human papillomavirus (HPV) which is also the main cause of cancer of the cervix.

The UK’s National Health Service (NHS) also revealed that around 8,300 people are diagnosed with throat cancer every year in the UK. This is about one in every 50 cancers reported.

More than two in three cases of mouth cancer develop in adults over the age of 55. Only one in eight (12.5 per cent) happens in people younger than 50.

Buhari’s Government Failed To Rescue Only Five Dapchi Girls – Femi Adesina Says

As the President Muhammadu Buhari regime of eight years marred with mass school children abductions by terror groups gradually winds down, Femi Adesina, spokesperson for the regime, admitted that Mr Buhari failed to rescue Leah Sharibu and four others among school children abducted by Boko Haram in Dapchi, Yobe State since 2019.

“Dachi girls were taken under the administration, and within the week they were recovered except maybe five including Leah Sharibu sadly,” Mr Adesina said in an interview with Channels TV Thursday, arguing that Mr Buhari’s regime cannot be blamed for not rescuing all Chibok girls who were long abducted on 2014 before he assumed office in 2015.

Mr Adesina’s statement comes almost five years after over 100 Dapchi schoolgirls were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists. Some of the girls were later released, but Ms Sharibu, a Christian who refused to renounce her faith and others have remained in captivity since then.

Speaking about Chibok girls, Mr Adesina said, “over 100 (Chibok girls) have been returned by the administration.”

“If a government came in when the trail was already cold and you couldn’t trace where the girls were taken, you can’t then blame it solely for not bringing them back, that would not be quite right,” he added.

Under Mr Buhari’s watch, Nigerians witnessed several mass school children abduction for ransom as Boko Haram and bandits ravaged North-East and North Central, respectively.

In coordinated attacks, bandits have abducted hundreds of school children for ransom in Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger, Katsina and Kebbi, forcing intermittent school closures.

With incessant attacks on schools, the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria rose from 10.5 in 2015 to 18.5 million under the Buhari regime, United Nations Children’s Fund said.

Trump Raped Me In Manhattan Department Store Dressing Room – American Journalist, Jean Carroll Says

An American journalist Jean Carroll suing former US President, Donald Trump for alleged rape says he raped her in a Manhattan department store dressing room.

Ms Carroll, now 79, disclosed this while taking the stand on the second day of a federal battery and defamation civil case the former Elle magazine columnist brought against Mr Trump at a Manhattan federal court in New York over a rape allegation that occurred either in 1995 or 1996.

“I am here because Donald Trump raped me, and when I wrote about it, he said it didn’t happen,” Ms Carrol responded when asked why she was at the court on Wednesday. “He lied and shattered my reputation, and I am here to try to get my life back,” she added.

When asked, “How do you feel about men?” she said, “I like them!” which created a humorous atmosphere with at least one male juror eliciting a laugh.

Detailing the encounter with Mr Trump, Ms Carroll stated, “He came through the door, and he said, ‘Hey, you are that advice lady’.”

Ms Carroll replied, “Hey, you’re that real estate tycoon.”

She further told the court, “I love to give advice, and here was Donald Trump asking me for advice about buying a present. It was a wonderful prospect for me.”

Ms Carroll said Mr Trump and her made their way to the lingerie section where the ex-president found a body suit which he then directed her to wear, but she refused and that it was there the whole ordeal began after Mr Trump had shut the door.

“I was extremely confused and suddenly realising that what I thought was happening was not happening,” Ms Carroll said. “I didn’t want to make a scene. I was almost too frightened to think if I was afraid or not.”

She added, “His fingers went into my vagina, which was extremely painful.”

Then, she alleged Mr Trump inserted his penis.

Ms Carroll told the jury she had not had sex since.

Meanwhile, Mr Trump denied any wrongdoing in the case. In a post on his Truth Social site from October 2020, the ex-president rubbished Ms Carroll’s claims as a “hoax” and “complete scam.”

Mr Trump had insisted Ms Carroll was “not my type!”

Gunmen Abduct Nursing Mother, Several Others In Kwara

Suspected armed kidnappers have abducted a nursing mother identified as Kehinde Ikeanabi Jibril in Kwara State.

They, however, spared and dropped her four-month old child with the elder children.

The incident occurred at Oketu area of Ago-Oja town in Asa Local Government Area of the state about 30minutes drive from Ilorin, the state capital.

Report indicated that the nursing mother was abducted at about 1am, at her husband’s residence located along Alhaji Isiaka Oloye Jagun Street just two days to the Eid-el-fitr festivities on Friday.

The main target of the kidnappers was the abducted nursing mother’s husband, said to be a cattle dealer and a top official of a cooperative society in the town.

The kidnappers reportedly demanded N10m for the release of the abducted woman whose whereabouts was unknown on Thursday when our correspondent visited the town.

Speaking on the incident, the community leader, Baale of Ago-Oja, Malam Daudu Salaudeen Arolu, lamented the rate of kidnap incidents in the area in recent times, describing the development as unfortunate and frightening.

He disclosed that on the fateful day the nursing mother was abducted, another victim said to be a student of the Kwara state Polytechnic was also abducted in an attack at his abode in the town.

Daudu said the boy was seriously injured when he confronted the armed kidnappers who shot sporadically at his Abiye residence in Ago-Oja, before he was carried away to an unknown destination.

The distraught community leader said the boy eventually later died in the hospital as a result of the injuries sustained in the attack even as the kidnappers had collected N400,000 ransom before his release.

The Baale further disclosed that days before the abduction of the nursing mother and the late student, one person was earlier kidnapped on Good Friday eve, but was rescued later after payment of N2.8m out of the N3m ransom demanded.

He said vigilant groups and policemen were mobilised to carry out the rescue operation after the release of the victim who was also injured while in captivity.

Daudu confirmed that a team of security personnel, including soldiers also visited the town on Wednesday this week in connection with the incident.

The Baale said although security had been beefed up in the town in collaboration with vigilant groups, the state government urgently needed to come to the rescue of the people as their lives were no longer safe.

According to the community leader, there is no police post along the stretch of the road from Ogbondoroko, Ago-Oja, Laduba to Afon town, the capital of Asa Local Government.

He said, “There is no police post in our area except in Afon town.”

DAILY POST reports that only recently, the Magaji Erubu, Dr Erubu, was abducted by armed kidnappers at his farm in Ago-Oja and was later released after spending days in their captivity.

Also speaking on the menace of kidnappers in the area, the Alangua of Laduba, Mohammed Saidu, said the people of his community now lived in fear.

Laduba town is the neighbouring community sharing boundary with Ago-Oja in the area

Mohammed said they have also stepped up security measures to safeguard the lives and property of the people in the area.

He further appealed to the state government to provide security for the people described as an agrarian community to mitigate threat to food insecurity.

Nigerian Police Inspector Dies In Custody After Being Detained For Absence From Work

A Nigerian police officer of the Kwara State Police Command, Taiye Atobiloye has died in cell after being detained for eight days for being absent from work.

It was gathered that the deceased, with service number 232980, died in a cell at the D Division of the Kogi State Police Command, following his detention for being absent from duty for two days at the Zone 8 Command, Lokoja, Kogi State.

Taiye, who was assigned to the Oke Onigbin Division in Kwara State, was assigned for a month to a special assignment dubbed Quick Intervention at the Zone 8 Command.

The policeman was alleged to have been gone from duty for two days after his return to Lokoja, and it was subsequently discovered that as punishment for his absence without authorisation, Atobiloye was kept in a cell.

In a Facebook post, a relative of the dead officer, Femi Igbekele, lamented the circumstances that took Atobiloye’s life, saying that efforts by his family members, including his wife, to contact him on the phone after he departed for special duty proved futile.

He wrote, “AP No 232980 Inspector Taiye Atobiloye, serving at Kwara State Command, attached to the Oke Onigbin Division, was sent to Lokoja Zone 8 on special duty called Quick Intervention.

“For the past eight days, all family members were calling him but no response from his phone number as the phone was ringing but nobody picked, likewise his wife called him and nobody picked (up) the call until the information reached the family that he was detained at the D (Division) Lokoja, and died in the cell.”

When PUNCH contacted the Zone 8 Command spokesperson, Ruth Awi, she confirmed the incident. She said Atobiloye absconded from duty after reporting for special duty at the command and was unable to be located for two days until cops discovered him inebriated.

She stated that the officer was imprisoned in order for him to get himself, and that he died in detention.

She said, “He was not detained at the Zonal Headquarters, he was detained at the D Division in Lokoja. He reported at the Zonal Headquarters and then disappeared into thin air; there are punishments for people who abscond from duty without any excuse. But in his case, he did not only stay away from work, he was drunk when he was found.

“For the effect of the drink to be cleared, the boss said he should stay in the cell for two days until he is fit for interrogation to explain where he went to and where he was coming from. So, he was detained at the D Division for about two or three days after which the news came to us that he gave up.”

We Spent $1.2Million To Hire 40 Buses To Evacuate Stranded Nigerians From Sudan To Cairo — Minister Of Foreign Affairs Says

The Nigerian government has said it spent the sum of $1.2 million to hire buses to transport stranded citizens from Khartoum, the Sudanese capital to Egypt, from where they would be airlifted to Nigeria.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council on Wednesday.

Giving an update on the situation in warring Sudan as regards the evacuation of Nigerian citizens, the minister said, “You recall that the main challenge we had was, first of all, securing the authorisation of the Sudanese government and then security support for the convoy. This is because it has been decided that we will transport or convey Nigerian to the Egyptian border Aswan.

“We are liaising with our embassy in Egypt as well so we have been able to overcome these challenges and we have started the process which we are very happy about. $1.2 million is what we’re being charged for all the 40 buses.

“We have huge transport luxury buses made available to us to transport our citizens to the Egyptian border. Of course, you know, because of the risks involved and so many other things, a lot of people are going to also take advantage; you’re going to hike up the price. We saw that the French convoy was attacked and so forth. It was difficult procuring these buses. But we had to do it because you know Nigerian lives matter to us.”

Zubairu Dada, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, said no Nigerian life has been lost in Sudan since the war started on April 15. Dada said the government was determined to evacuate as many Nigerians as possible during the 72-hour window provided by the Sudanese government.

Tinubu Relocates To Defence House Ahead Of May 29

The president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has moved into the Defence House in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja ahead of his inauguration as Nigeria’s president on May 29th, 2023.

Tinubu and the vice president-elect Kashim Shetttima are expected to stay at the Defence House where they will move into the Presidential Villa after swearing in.

The Defence House is the official residence reserved for Nigeria’s President-Elects since the country returned to democratic rule in 1999.

Ahead of the May 29 handover, Tinubu returned to Nigeria on Monday to a rapturous reception by hundreds of his supporters and well-wishers across the country.

The president-elect restated that his promise to deliver a nation of renewed hope for all Nigerians remains in motion as he is ready for the task ahead.

“I am extremely excited to be back home and deeply humbled by the warm welcome I received on my return to Abuja today,” Tinubu said.

“Thank you all for your love and support. Our promise to deliver a nation of renewed hope for all Nigerians remains in motion.

“I’m happy to be back. I have rested, I’m refreshed and I’m ready for the task ahead. Forget about what the rumour mill may have told you. I’m strong, very strong.”

Asked about his plans for the country, he said he had been consulting and planning with a view to putting together a strong team, so he could hit the ground running once he assumes office.

“I am extremely excited to be back home after my trip to Europe. I am hale and hearty. I am preparing for inauguration on May 29, and consulting with those who will be part of the new government,” he said.

His return put to rest speculation by a section of members of the opposition political parties and his adversaries that he may not be on hand to take over power after the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure on May 29 due to ill- health.

Tinubu left Nigeria March 21, a day after the first and second runners-up of the presidential election, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), filed petitions challenging his return as winner of the February 25 poll.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Tinubu the winner of the presidential election after he polled the highest number of votes.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat Atiku who had 6,984,520 votes, Obi got 6,101,533 votes to come third while the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso garnered 1,496,687 votes.

Meanwhile, Buhari said that he cannot wait to hand over to Tinubu as he wants to go home after eight years of being at the helm of affairs in Nigeria.

Tinubu’s Health Insurance Will Cover 87 million Nigerians In First Two Years: APC Boast

President-elect Bola Tinubu has targeted providing health care insurance for at least 87 million Nigerians in his first two years in office.

This was announced Monday in Abuja by Oyakhilome Bello, APC United States national youth leader in Abuja.

According to the APC youth leader, Mr Tinubu will ensure that 40 per cent of Nigerians benefit by deploying the mandatory National Health Insurance Scheme, noting that the president-elect planned to achieve this expansion by increasing the financing available for the Basic Health Care Provision Fund and the Vulnerable Group Fund recently established by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The scheme, he added, was to insure the health of vulnerable Nigerians.

Mr Bello added that Mr Tinubu planned to decentralise the social health insurance scheme to bring all Nigerians under a central national scheme to be managed by the National Health Insurance Authority.

The APC chieftain advised Nigerians to check their vital signs regularly to live healthy and longer. He gave the advice at a medical outreach sponsored by Ade Omole, the director of diaspora of the dissolved APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), to support a political pressure group, Patriots in Defense of Democracy.

Mr Bello stressed that vital signs monitoring was crucial for living a healthy and long life because it “gives us a glimpse into our overall well-being and signal early signs of an infection as well as prevent a misdiagnosis.”

The group had, since March 26, been holding a pre-inauguration daily hangout at the Abuja Unity Fountain for Mr Tinubu, who is widely believed to be battling an undisclosed ailment, sometimes appearing as a bumbling, inarticulate figure.

Tosin Adeyanju, the group’s convener, said the hangout was in solidarity with the mandate given by Nigerians to Mr Tinubu on February 25. He explained that the hangout aimed to redirect the ongoing narratives about the presidential election and the emergence of their principal as the president-elect, which will continue until May 29, when Mr Tinubu would be sworn in.

56years Old American Music Star, R Kelly Moved From Chicago Prison To North Carolina To Serve 30years Sentence

Multiple award winning American R&B star, R Kelly who was sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually abusing women, girls and boys, more than 20 years after first facing allegations, has been moved from Chicago correctional centre to a medium-security prison in North Carolina.

According to AP News, the R&B singer was transferred from the Metropolitan Correctional Centre Chicago to the federal correctional institution in Butner, North Carolina, on April 19, according to Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesperson Benjamin O’Cone.

The bureau, however, did not reveal the reasons for the singer’s transfers, citing privacy, safety, and security concerns.

A federal judge in Chicago sentenced the Grammy Award-winning R&B singer, 56, to 20 years in prison in February for child pornography and enticement of minors for sex.

He will serve all but one of those concurrently with a separate 30-year sentence in New York for racketeering and sex trafficking convictions.

Kelly, who has vehemently denied the allegations, rose from obscurity in Chicago to become one of the world’s most famous R&B artists. Known for his smash hit “I Believe I Can Fly” and sex-infused songs like “Bump n’ Grind,” he sold millions of albums even after allegations of sexual abuse against him surfaced in the 1990s.

Kelly’s conviction was seen as a victory for survivors of sexual violence, particularly those who may hesitate to speak out against abusers, for fear of retribution.

At the trial, victims had described how Kelly, real name Robert Sylvester Kelly, subjected them to perverse and sadistic whims when they were underage.

Several victims said he would demand that they strictly obey rules such as needing his permission to eat or go to the bathroom and writing “apology letters” that purported to absolve him of wrongdoing.

Ahead of sentencing on Wednesday, some of the victims made statements, including “Angela”, who said, “With every addition of a new victim you grew in wickedness”. On this day of sentencing “we reclaim our names”, she said. “We are no longer the preyed-upon individuals we once were.”

Former US President, Donald Trump Faces Trial For Rape, Defamation

A rape allegation filed against Former US President, Donald Trump by prominent former American columnist, who said he raped her in the 1990s is fixed to start today (Tuesday) in a civil trial.

The writer, identified as E. Jean Carroll, aged 79, said that Trump assaulted her sexually in a New York department shop, and that he later defamed her after she made the claims public.

Trump, who is dealing with a number of legal issues that could jeopardise his bid for a second term in office in 2024, refutes the accusations.

The trial started just a few weeks after his historic arraignment on charges of making a hush-money payment to a porn star shortly before the 2016 presidential election.

Carroll, a former Elle magazine columnist, claims Trump raped her in the changing room of the posh Bergdorf Goodman department store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan in the mid-1990s.

She claimed Trump asked her for shopping tips, prompting the attack.

Carroll first made the allegation in an excerpt from her book published by New York Magazine in 2019.

Trump responded then by saying he never met Carroll, that she was “not my type” and that she was “totally lying.”

Carroll first sued Trump for defamation in 2019 but was unable to include the rape claim because the statute of limitations for the alleged offense had expired.

But a new law took effect in November last year in New York that gives redress to victims of sexual assault decades after attacks may have occurred.

It gave sexual assault victims in the state a one-year window to sue their alleged abusers even when the abuse occurred long ago.

Lawyers for Carroll filed a new suit that accused Trump of battery, “when he forcibly raped and groped” her.

It also included defamation for a post that Trump made on his Truth Social platform where he denied the alleged rape and referred to Carroll as a “complete con job.”

The suit seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages for psychological harm, pain and suffering, loss of dignity, and damage to her reputation.

Trump is not expected to testify as Carroll’s lawyers have said they do not intend to call him to the witness stand.

The trial will most likely last one to two weeks.
When Trump was detained in the hush-money case earlier this month, he became the first sitting or former president to be charged with a felony.

He is also being investigated for his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss in Georgia, his suspected mishandling of confidential information obtained from the White House, and his involvement in the January 6, 2021 attack of the US Capitol.

A security source said the escapees were identified as Hauwa Mutah and Esther Markus.

One is from Chibok and the other one from Dzilang village,” the source said.

This has reduced the number of Chibok schoolgirls in captivity from 98 to 96.

The terrorists had on April 14, 2014, abducted 276 girls from Government Secondary School, Chibok.

Earlier, the head of the Intelligence Unit of the Joint Military Task Force, Operation Hadinkai, Colonel Obinna Ezuipke, gave the number of the remaining Chibok girls in captivity as 98.

Out of the 276 abducted Chibok girls, 57 girls escaped in 2014 while 107 girls were released in 2018. Three girls were recovered in 2019, two in 2021 and 9 were rescued in 2022, bringing the total of 178 girls out of captivity and 98 remaining in Boko Haram captivity.” he stated.

One Dead As LASTMA Rescues Suspected Ritualist, Other Accident Vctims In Iyana-Ipaja Lagos

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Monday disclosed that one of the victims of an accident that occurred in Iyana-Ipaja was caught with more than 100 used diapers.

LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq in a statement said one of the three accident victims its operatives rescued died on the way to the hospital.

“Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) today rescued 3 severely injured accident victims (2 males & a female) at Mosalasi Round-About inward Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos,” Taofiq said.

“Lastma Akanji Wasiu (Bravo 16) who led the rescue operations confirmed that the accident involved 3 vehicles, Mazda commercial bus (FKJ 88 XH), Tricycle (Keke Marwa KJA 369 QM) and a white Camry car (KJA 351 HG) on main carriage way at Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a white Camry car lost control due to overspeeding and hit a commercial tricycle from the rear while the tricycle went off balance and obstructed another upcoming fully loaded Mazda commercial bus going to Iyana-Ipaja.

“Those rescued 3 accident victims were immediately rushed to different Hospitals by their relatives but unfortunately, one of those rescued (male) reportedly died along the road to hospital.”

According to LASTMA, those vehicles involved in the accident were immediately removed from the road to avoid impeding free flow of traffic and handed over to Policemen from Gowon Estate Divisional Police Headquarters for further investigations.

“One of the passengers (suspected ritualist) inside the commercial tricycle involved in the accident was caught with more than 100 pieces of used small children’s ‘pampers’ with huge sums of money of different denominations was immediately handed over to Police men at the scene of the accident.”

The General Manager (G.M) of LASTMA, Bolaji Oreagba, however, said that it was a ‘man-made’ accident that could have been prevented if over-speeding was avoided by the driver.

Oreagba maintained that the Lagos State government embarked on regular public education on the danger inherent in over-speeding by both private, commercial, and truck drivers across the State.

He warned motorists to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition, particularly the break before driving on Lagos roads.

I Have Packed All My Bags In Aso Rock Villa – Femi Adesina

The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina has said that he has packed his bags and he is ready to leave the Presidential Villa, Abuja by May 29 when the President will leave office.

Adesina in his latest article recounted his journey from journalism to becoming President Buhari’s media aide.

In the article, the presidential spokesman said, “All things are now ready. Last week, I wrote about the cleaning and clearing of my office in State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja. The job is now done, and as a bride waits for her groom, the office now expects its next occupant, the Adviser on Media to the incoming President.

“That event is now about 38 days away. William Shakespeare wrote in Romeo and Juliet: “Love goes toward love, as schoolboys from their books…” That is how I look forward to my next endeavours, after serving in government for 8 years.

“To the best of my ability, I have served my principal, Muhammadu Buhari, the Mai Gaskiya (honest man), who hails from Daura, in Katsina State. Through thick and thin, I have been there with him. Been called names, excoriated, flagellated, threatened. But there I was. All the way. Bloodied at times, but unbowed. Now, happily, like love goes towards love, a schoolboy away from his books, all my bags are packed, I’m ready to go. Remember Jet Plane, that song by Sonya Spence?

“But goodbye we must say. Today, permit me to pay tribute to all those who have served in the office I’d occupied in the past 8 years. They also served their masters; faithfully, just as I have tried to do. I had written about them in the past, both living and dead, but I bring an updated version today.

“Those who served before me have all succeeded in their different ways, no matter what people choose to believe, or say of them. They served their principals faithfully. I tried to do the same. As I move on in 38 days, let me borrow the words of Shakespeare again: “If we do meet again, why, we shall smile; if not, this parting was well made.”

A 36-year-old lawyer, identified as Abasiesebanga Ikoiwak, has been arrested along with five others by the police for allegedly killing her 41-year-old husband, Barrister Godwin Ikoiwak in Akwa Ibom State.

According to the prosecution witness that stood before the Uyo High Court, the late Barrister did not know that the boy who has been living with him in his house for years, was his wife’s son because the wife had told him that the child was her younger brother.

Also giving his testimony before the court, the deceased’s friend, Barrister Sunny Anyanwu, stated that Ikoiwak died following a phone conversation they had during which he disclosed that he was having issues with his wife over infidelity.

Anyanwu added that the deceased hinted to him that he reported the matter to his wife’s family who invited him to a meeting in their family compound in Nung Udoe Itak, Ikono LGA, but did not return home alive.

Anyanwu who is the 7th prosecution witness in the matter, also said that the late Barrister told him that his wife was having sexual relationship with her former boss, a legal practitioner, Barrister, C.I. Odoh.

Ikoiwak had reportedly told Anyanwu that his wife stayed with a Catholic priest, Rev. Father Maurice Mbeke as a house help and the priest had impregnated her and they had a child who is now 19 years old named after her maternal grandfather.

The prosecution team headed by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Akwa Ibom State, Barr. Joseph Umoren presented the audio evidences which were played in the open court.

Forgive Me If I Have Offended You – President Buhari Begs Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked Nigerians that feel hurt by his actions or policies to pardon him, adding that “we are all humans.”

The president on Friday described himself as a lucky man, to have led Nigeria in various capacities as a governor, minister, head of state, and crowning it as President.

Buhari who asserted that he was eager to hand over power to the “President-elect,” Bola Tinubu, said that he could not wait to go home after eight years of being at the helm of affairs in the country, providing governance.

The president made this known while speaking at the 9th and final Sallah homage which took place, Friday, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He thanked the residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja for indulging and tolerating him in the last seven and half years.

He said; “I can’t wait to go home. I deliberately arranged to be as far away as possible from you people. I have got what I have asked and will quietly retire to my home town in Daura.

“I think this is a very good coincidence for me to say goodbye to you and to thank you for tolerating me for more than seven and half years now.

“Having been a Governor, Minister and the President twice, I think God has given us an incredible opportunity to serve as your president. And I thank God for that. So, please whoever feels I have done wrong to, we are all humans. There is no doubt I hurt some people and I wish you will pardon me. And those that think that I have hurt them so much, please pardon me.”

Buhari’s tenure as Nigeria president ends May 29 when Tinubu, although besieged by several petitions at the presidential tribunal, is expected to be sworn in as Nigerian president for the next four years.

Patience Jonathan Spent Money, Used Connections To Make Wike Rivers State Governor –Dino Melaye Reveals

The Peoples Democratic Party candidate for November 2013 Kogi governorship election, Dino Melaye has lambasted Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, calling him an “expired drug that is about to be taken off the shelf”.

Recall that Governor Wike in a media chat with Channels TV said Melaye knew he lacked what was required to be a governor of a state, adding that if Kogi people voted for him, it means they do not want development.

“When you give Dino that ticket, you know you won’t win in Kogi State. Why will Kogi people say they will vote for a candidate like Dino? Are we joking? The mere fact that you are from Kogi, therefore any Kogi person?

“We are talking about governance of a state and we are not talking about drama. For Christ’s sake, PDP presents such a candidate and you mean that Kogi people want development? Let us stop the idea that he is from Kogi. Take, for example, anybody from Lagos State should just come out and Lagos people should go and vote for him to be governor. I mean, that can’t be serious,” Wike had said.

But speaking in an interview with Arise TV on Wednesday, Melaye, who recently won the governorship primaries of his party in Kogi said, “I don’t want to bother myself discussing with a man that is about to leave office and suffering from post-election trauma.”

“I don’t have the time actually for drug and alcohol-induced individuals,” he added.

When he was cautioned by one of the anchors of the programme against making statements he could not substantiate, Melaye said, “We work with time and season. Governor Wike himself on national TV on a Monday said he was taking 40-year-old whiskey.”

“He advertised himself to Nigerians,” he said.

When he referred to his previous comments about being helped by Wike in the past, Melaye said, “Wike himself has been helped by the PDP and anything he is doing for any individual in the PDP is like giving back from what the PDP has done for him.

“Governor (Peter) Odili made him the chairman of his local government. So he has been helped by someone.

“After Odili helped him, Governor Amaechi made him chief of staff. Governor Amaechi nominated him to be minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Patience Jonathan (former first lady) spent her money and connections to make him the governor of River State.”

Herbalist Arrested For Chaining And Starving His Two Children To Death In Ogun

Operatives of the Ogun State Security Network, Amotekun Corps, have arrested a 45-year-old man, Gbenga Ogunfadeke, for allegedly chaining and locking his two children in solitary confinement which led to their death.

The State Commander of Amotekun, David Akinremi, in a statement on Wednesday, April 19, said the suspect, a father of three, was arrested in Ibiade, Waterside LGA of the state, following a complaint by his ex-wife.

He said the suspect had been maltreating the children, whose ages range from 16, 17 and 18 since he took custody of them following his crashed marriage with their mother, Busola Otusegun.

“One of the three children came across his aunty in Ibiade where he currently lives with his father (suspect) and narrated their experience with their father which led to the d£aths of his two elder siblings – Yusuf Ogunfadeke (18) and Dasola Ogunfadeke (17), between April and June, 2022 in Ijebu-Ode, where they were all living with the suspect until he relocated to Ibiade.

According to child, their father chained and locked them in solitary confinement, without food and water for over three months which led to the d£aths of the two siblings, but he miraculously survived the ordeal.

The suspect admitted the alleged confinement of the children for months, but denied not feeding them and being responsible for their deaths.

He said his action was based on the children’s involvement in st£aling. He claimed that the two deceased children were taken to hospital for treatment at different times when they fell ill, but unfortunately died in the process.

What is however curious about his defence is that we couldn’t locate the hospital where he claimed the two children died in Ijebu Ode and the place where he allegedly buried them in Ijebu-Ode before relocating toIbiade.

The fact that he refused to make the incidents known to any member of the family also gives cause for concern, especially as the suspect is a herbalist, thus further fueling the suspicion of having killed the deceased for possible rituals,” he said.

My Family Conspired Against Me And Voted Peter Obi In Presidential Election – Governor Umahi

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has revealed how his family conspired against him during the February 25 presidential election.

Umahi who is serving out his eight years of two tenures as governor of Ebonyi State by May 29, 2023, claimed that he did not know that his families members voted for the candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi during the presidential election.

The chairman of the South-East Governors Forum, who stated this while featuring on Channels TV programme on Monday, added that Nigerians voted for the Labour Party not because of Peter Obi.

He said it was because of the hardship the people were going through.

The governor noted that it was protest votes, while expressing his surprise that President Muhammadu Buhari and the “president-elect”, Bola Tinubu lost their respective states during the election.

“In all honesty, I didn’t give any chance to the Labour Party to win any election in my state (Ebonyi State) because what we had put in place was such that no other political party should be able to win anything, not even Councillorship election in my state. I saw the Labour Party vote as a protest against my party (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

“I was very surprised; even in my family; there was a conspiracy against me. I did not know that they voted for Peter Obi, but in the other election, they voted for APC because of what we’ve done in the state.”

“It was not a vote for His Excellency, Peter Obi. As such, there are seeming hardship and challenges in Nigeria,” he claimed.

Onyeali-Ikpe, Olusanya Make Top 10 on 2023 Definitive List Of Women CEOs

The third annual Africa.com Definitive List of Women Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) was revealed on April 19.

Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, Managing Director/CEO, Fidelity Bank Plc and Miriam Chidiebele Olusanya, Managing Director, Guaranty Trust Holding Company made the top 10 list. Both companies are listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX).

The list is unique in that it is based on data-driven research. Sponsored by Standard Bank Group, it represents one of the first analyses of the performance of publicly listed companies in Africa conducted through a gender lens.

This year’s list of 93 women represents 17 countries who have qualified based on either large-scale revenue or large-scale market capitalisation.

BusinessDay check shows the list includes 40 women from South Africa, 12 from Nigeria, and 6 from Egypt, Ghana and Kenya respectively.

Africa.com analysed 2,020 companies listed on the 24 African stock exchanges. Of the 2,020 companies, Africa.com screened for those companies with revenue of $100 million or more, or a market cap of $150 million or more, which yielded a list of 787 companies.

The public websites of all 787 companies were examined to identify female C-suite executives. The team then researched each woman to determine those who have a title of chief executive officer or managing director or president AND conducted a review to confirm that these executives have bottom line, profit and loss responsibility for the companies. This resulted in 40 women CEOs on group 1.

The methodology for group 2 is identical to the methodology for Group 1, except that the entities evaluated were the divisions of the 787 companies, such that the divisions themselves have standalone revenue of $100 million or more.

The women running these divisions must have a title that clearly demonstrates that they are the chief executive with profit and loss responsibility for the division. This analysis yielded 28 women division heads.

Group 3 started with an analysis of global corporations with revenue over $10 billion who have operations in one or more countries on the African continent.

The regional heads of these companies were analysed to identify women executives for an Africa region or an African country, with profit and loss responsibility for the country or region. This analysis yielded 25 women. Women in this group are ranked by prioritizing those who run the Africa region ahead of those who run a single African country.

The three groups make up the final Definitive List of 93 women listed below. The 40 women from Group I are: Natascha Viljoen, CEO, Anglo American Plc, a company listed on Johannesburg Stock Exchange; Nompumelelo Zikalala, CEO, Kumba Iron Ore Ltd, also listed on Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Others are: Mpumi Madisa, CEO, Bidvest Group, a Johannesburg Stock Exchange listed company;
Bertina Engelbrecht, CEO, Clicks Group Ltd, also listed on Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

Also on the top 10 list include Nombasa Tsengwa, CEO, Exxaro Resources, listed on the
Johannesburg Stock Exchange; Albertinah Kekana, CEO, Royal Bafokeng Holdings, listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange; Jane Karuku, Group Managing Director & CEO, East African Breweries, listed on Nairobi Stock Exchange; Ntombi Felicia Msiza, CEO, Raubex Group Ltd, listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
