Anambra guber: Prostitutes storm Awka to woo politicians, journalist

As Anambra residents prepare to go to polls tomorrow, (Saturday), the atmosphere in the state has become fully charged with a frenzy mood ahead of the political battle.
A walk around the capital city of Awka shows that residents of the state are carrying on with a euphoria that has not been experienced in the recent past.

The Eke Awka main market, the largest market in the state capital, registered unusual number of sellers and buyers.
DailyPost learnt that residents were buying foodstuff to keep in stock, because of the 22 hours curfew imposed on the state by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, as a result of the election.
A trader at the market told our reporter that “market is good today, but that we were taken unawares; we would have stocked our shops if we knew there was going to be so much sales”.
Consequently, the prices of most food stuff have also gone up in the market as a result of large demands.
Apart from food items, cost of hotel accommodation has also risen, as there is limited accommodation for
politicians, observers, journalists, security agents and other civil society groups that are coming to the state to monitor the election.
A journalist, who works with a national newspaper said he has been moving around the town looking for a pocket friendly accommodation since he arrived from Lagos on Thursday.
Though he managed to get one, he confessed that the price is not commensurate with the comfort he expected.
Rooms that were hitherto rented out for N3, 000 now go for N5,000, while those of N7,000 are now rented at N10,000.
The journalist, who lodged in a hotel close to the popular UNIZIK junction, disclosed that girls aimlessly loiter around the hotel vicinity, waiting for those interested in commercial sex.
A resident of Awka, and a trader told our reporter that, “they are even lucky that there is ASUU strike, you would have seen the
kind of girls that would have been around this town.
“Everyone is here to make money, and the girls also want to make money.
