The Imo State Police Command has recovered five stolen vehicles and paraded persons allegedly involved in various criminal activities.
Parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Owerri, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, warned against criminal activities.
Lakanu, who said the state would be too hot for criminals to operate, said apprehended suspects would be prosecuted.
He said a 30-year-old Chimezie Igodo was apprehended for unlawful possession of firearms.
Igodo was nabbed on October 25, 2016 for allegedly being in possession of a locally-made single barrel revolver with three live cartridges, which he had confessed was used for robbery.
The Commissioner of Police said that Igodo was arrested during a routine stop-and-search operation by the command along the Owerri-Onitsha Road.
The commissioner said that another suspect, Chimaobi Uzoanya, was nabbed on October 30 as a sole robber.
Uzoanya, a native of Umuahia in Abia State, told Southern City News that he robbed a 20-year-old woman identified as Vivian Nwoke of her handbag and other valuables along Spibat Road, Orji in Owerri North Local Government Area of the state.
The police commissioner said that one locally-made revolver was recovered from him during a stop-and-search operation by the command operatives.
Lakanu revealed that the command recovered five stolen vehicles, including one Honda CRV with the registration number Imo, WER 407 AA, and a Lexus Jeep with the number, Rivers PHC 587 KX.
He said that the vehicles were abandoned by the hoodlums during a chase by the command’s operatives.
“The vehicles have been released to their owners while investigation is ongoing. Also, on October 26, acting on a tip-off, operatives from the command arrested a three-man armed robbery gang that invaded Kings Lodge in Nekede, Owerri West Local Government Area.
