Grandmother Nabbed For Selling Newborn Baby To Neighbour At N250,000 In Lagos
A grandmother simply identified as Patience has been arrested for selling her grandchild.
According to reports, Patience took the child away from her mother, Blessing Emmanuel, on the day he was born. The child was reportedly handed over to one Ijeoma Okechukwu, a former neighbour of the Emmanuels on Shola Adewunmi Street, in the Oshodi Isolo area of Lagos State.
Blessing and her mother, were said to have been given N250,000 for the sale of the newborn baby. It was gathered that Blessing had told residents of the area that her baby died from convulsion and epilepsy.
Police PRO, CSP Dolapo Badmos , said the case involved obtaining money under false pretences, threat to life and child trafficking. She noted that the policemen alleged to have been involved in the illegal transaction had been identified and would be disciplined.
Badmos confirmed to journalists that the Police have recovered the baby and all the suspects are in police custody. “We are still investigating what truly happened because we suspect that it is a long chain of trafficking. The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, Adamu Ibrahim, has directed that the case be thoroughly investigated and the culprits prosecuted,” she said.
