Ogun APC Drisis: Youths Call Tor Amosun’s Suspension
The National Youths Democratic Network (NYDN), on Thursday called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to suspend Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun for alleged anti-party activities.
The group said that would serve as punitive actions against the governor for supporting other party in the state.
Amosun was said to has been supporting the governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Abdulkadir Akinlade as he publicly announced his reluctance to support the APC candidate in the state, Dapo Abiodun in the 2019 guber election.
The NYDN group also called for immediate withdrawal of the party’s ticket for Ogun Central Senatorial district in its possession, and be handed over to a more committed and disciplined member from the district
Addressing journalists at a conference on Thursday in Abeokuta, the state capital, the NYDN State Coordinator, Hamzat Solanke, stated that the group is a national umbrella body of committed, loyal and disciplined youths in the APC.
The group said the open declaration of support for the governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade, by Amosun, was well enough for the national leadership to suspend him for anti-party activities.
“It is a serious infraction and insult on our sensibility for the incumbent governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun to disregard democratic decisions of the APC in Ogun State and Nigeria to field Prince Dapo Abiodun as its standard bearer only for Governor Amosun to deviate from that line to pitch his tent with the candidate of another party, the APM, Mr. Adekunle Akinlade, who is a current serving member of the National Assembly and a decampee from the APC,” he said.
NYDN also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate the source of funding of the APM as a political party from obscurity to relative visibility of the governor.
The political group asked the State House of Assembly to prevent the governor from borrowing money from any financial institutions at this point in time in the life of his (Amosun’s) administration
