Presidency Reacts To Osinbajo’s Resignation Rumours

The Presidency has debunked rumours on social media that Professor Yemi Osinbajo has resigned as the Vice President of Nigeria.

Rumours have been making the round since Wednesday citing the failure to invite the Vice President to the meeting between the Presidency and Security Chiefs on Tuesday.

It was said that Osinbajo was angry for being ignored for the meeting President Muhammadu Buhari had with security chiefs in Aso Rock Villa on Tuesday.

President Muhammadu Buhari had met with security chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police and three northern state governors.

Those at the meeting included Adamawa State governor, Jibrilla Bindow; Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima and Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

Security chiefs in attendance were the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai; and Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas.

Also present were Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar; Director General of Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Buchi, and some other security heads.

Members of the President’s cabinet at the meeting included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, as well as the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan Ali, and Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, among others.

Reacting to the rumours that Osinbajo has resigned, Personal Assistant to the President on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, described it as “Fake News”, saying that Osinbajo “remains committed to the service of the Nigerian people under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.”
