Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, has been appointed as an Ambassador by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS).
We understands that Aisha got the appointment as the UNAIDS Special Ambassador for the Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV on Thursday.
Aisha was handed the appointment at the end of the initial appointment in 2018.
Speaking on the appointment, Aisha called on Nigeria to have regular HIV and AIDS tests to prevent Mother-to-Child transmission of the disease.
She said this when she received a delegation of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) led by its Executive Director, Michiel Sidibe, at the State House, Abuja.
“Together, we can stop children from being born with HIV in Nigeria by the year 2020,” she said.
