Ace afro hip-hop artist Oladapo Oyebanjo, known to many as DBanj over the week, launched a recording studio and music school in the Osapa area of Lekki, Lagos.
The establishment known as M&E Music Company is jointly owned by Mrs Esther Oladeji and Mr Martins Bamidele, two known figures in the music industry with decades of experience.
According to DBanj, the idea of a music school is delightful as it falls within the urgent need for the creative industry.
“Nigeria music is still growing despite the overwhelming international recognition and accolades.
“We are in the evolution stage presently, and this stage requires periodic training. M&E music company represents the professionalism we need to train our young talents and discover more.
“The idea of a music school and state of the art recording studio in an area like Lekki is to create an atmosphere for musicians and artists to rehearse and record within their reach.”
The founders of the institution, Mr Martins and Mrs Esther, reiterated the need for early grooming of young talents to shape the industry better and prepare it for the future to come.
“Having a school with a rich musical curriculum that covers all angles for all ages is a focal point for the music industry. While Afrobeat has opened the eyes of the world to the potential we have in Nigeria, it is now left for us to make the new entrants see that we can do more than just Afrobeats.
“The plan is not just to help musicians discover their talent but also to train them to play at least one musical instrument.
In my three decades in the music industry, I have seen a lot, and I know what is required to grow the industry, so M&E is more like a fixer.”
The proprietors disclosed that the next music school session is billed to start in May.
Gospel musician Segun Arugboojo also graced the occasion.
