EFCC Conducts Pregnancy Tests On Female Suspects

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has carried out pregnancy tests on female suspects in its custody.

The suspects are held in connection with vote-buying in the Ekiti governorship election.

The commission explained that all the suspects in its custody were held by court order over allegations of vote-buying during the poll.

This is contained in a statement signed by its spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren.

Mr Uwajaren dismissed speculations that a pregnant woman was among the suspects arrested on allegation of vote-buying during the Ekiti governorship election.

“A pregnancy test conducted on all the female suspects arrested during the election at the State Hospital in Ilorin was negative,” said the EFCC statement. “Earlier tests conducted in a private hospital also revealed negative results for all the female suspects.”

The anti-graft agency added that all the suspects were detained based on valid court orders, pending the conclusion of investigations.

The EFCC also mentioned that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations were finalised.

It urged the public to ignore claims about mistreatment of the suspects. According to the statement, the commission is committed to the observance of the rule of law in all its operations.

2023: Nigeria Is In Trouble If Tinubu Or Atiku Becomes President – Northern Elders Forum Says

The Convener of the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, Professor Ango Abdullahi, has said Nigeria will be in chaos if either Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress or Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party wins the 2023 presidential election, stating that the duo have nothing to offer the country.

He said the presidential candidates of Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi and that of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso are better, compared to Atiku and Tinubu.

He told Vanguard that Tinubu and Atiku had been around political circles for a long time without commensurate positives to show for it.

However, he noted that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who contested the APC presidential primaries or a former banker, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, who also aspired for the ticket in the PDP would have made a better President as technocrats.

Hence, Abdullahi, who was a former Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria, said he would not support any of the candidates.

Abdullahi said he would rather tell Nigerians to brace for the trouble ahead of them should Tinubu or Atiku emerge as the next President.

“No, we still haven’t got the man who we think will fix Nigeria. What we have on (the) ground is not good enough. How can you look at Tinubu and Atiku to say they are the ones who will fix this country?

“They have been on the ground for the last 25, 30 years and so on. What have they done? What are we looking for? I was the one who encouraged a technocrat to join this consensus. You probably had seen Mohammed Hayatu-Deen in the group of people going around looking for consensus arrangements in PDP. I was one of those who encouraged him. We haven’t got the materials on the ground, unfortunately.

“Peter Obi, unfortunately, I don’t know him that much. He is a young man; he was the former governor of Anambra State and he is a businessman.

“He (Kwankwaso) is a good, young man. He started his politics with us and he is quite smart. No doubt about it. Of course, he had some of these debts that he acquired or he must have picked in other political formations and so on but clearly, he is one of the bright ones around. No doubt about that.

“I believe we have not had a good array of politicians. With due respect to some of them that one saw contesting, I am not being selfish here by referring to certain people like Prof. Osinbajo. He is a quality material but the political system will not tolerate him,” he told Vanguard Newspaper.

Abdullah further stated there was nothing bad if Osinbajo contested against his supposed godfather, Bola Tinubu.

He continued: “What has it got to do with what Nigeria wants? Is he a slave to the former governor? I don’t understand this kind of analogy. Professor Osinbajo is a human being entirely on his own merit and his accomplishments are entirely his own and people should assess him as such.

“Those who needed his services asked for his services. When he served as the attorney general of Lagos State, he was invited by the political system of Lagos State. This is the way I look at it and when he became vice president, I understand it is the president/party that identified him as qualified and competent enough to be the vice president in the current dispensation.”

“Why shouldn’t he be because he served under XYZ? He should be identified as an individual for leadership in the country,” he added.

While asking Nigerians to prepare for the troubled days ahead should any of the candidates become president in 2023, Abdullahi said: “What I will tell Nigerians is that we are in trouble and the way out is for Nigerians to agree that Nigeria is in trouble and that the machineries that are on ground today, that are expected to find solutions to the challenges facing Nigeria are not appropriate and we have to go back to the drawing board to see what we can do to save the Nigeria of the future.

“I believe the politicians have failed. My belief is that the political class has over the years failed to produce the kind of quality leadership we require to deal with the problems of Nigeria and which means that we should look for quality materials, not necessarily within the mainstream political parties, from outside and there have been a lot of discussions in Nigeria recently about technocrats.”

I’m Still Searching For Right Candidate, I Only Submitted Dummy Running Mate – Tinubu Tells INEC

The All Progressives Congress (APC), presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu has admitted submitting a dummy to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as his running mate.

At the 60th birthday of the House of Representatives speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, held in Abuja, Mr Tinubu: “I’m still searching for my running mate.”

“I could see a deputy (Wase) sitting down there too. You are very good symbols of unity, dependability, and honesty; thank you. Thank you for both of you. You’ve not rocked the boat,” stated the APC presidential flag bearer.

He added, “I will need to learn from both of you how you made the pair work because I’m still searching for my running mate.”

The erstwhile Lagos governor thanked Mr Gbajabiamila for playing a crucial role in helping him to clinch the APC presidential ticket.

“What you did during my primary (APC presidential election) is a story for another day. I’ve spent more time, too many times, and people might be bored,” Mr Tinubu pointed out. “They might be envious too. They might be jealous. I won a landslide. I thank you. Femi, with your determination, and reach, you are a contributor to our democratic growth. Thank you. It is about charting a path to success, you’ve done a good job, and I say thank you, thank you.”

Mr Tinubu’s statement on his search for a running mate lent credence to claims that the name he submitted to INEC was a stopgap until he found a suitable vice-presidential candidate.

Governor, Soludo, Says He Would Love To Take Bicycle To Work If Not For Insecurity

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has said he would have loved to take his bicycle to work but for the insecurity in the state.

The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, however, maintained his administration remained committed to the development of sports in the state.

Soludo, while speaking in Awka on the occasion of his 100 days in office as the state governor, described sports as a robust part of his manifesto, adding that he was passionate about sports.

He said, “We had planned to kick-start sporting activities the next day after our inauguration, but for insecurity, that was not possible. As a matter of fact, I have my bicycle and I would have loved to use it to work, but I have been advised to shelve that for some time.”

He added that the prevailing security situation in the state had not made it possible for his government to implement his plans for sports.

He said, “My administration is willing to reignite the tradition. To be honest with you, we are very passionate about sports. If you look at our manifesto, we spoke very eloquently on it. We believe in the sports economy; it is an area that we need to exploit and explore.

The governor promised that he would not only establish a state-owned football club but also develop sports from the grassroots, with the revival of the moribund school sports competitions in the state.

“I played football and got a scar from it. You preempted us on giving the state a football team. Give us some time, we have just spent 100 days, a lot will still happen.

“We will not only have a football team, we are going to revive sports from the roots to complement private sector efforts,” the governor stated.

Chike Omenkpa Weighs In On The Conspiracy, Lies Against Governor Ugwuanyi In Enugu North Senatorial Zone

It is true that humans wants are insatiable. The means to satisfy them is limited due to paucity of fund and lean resources. This is natural and the reality of economics of life and wants.

In Enugu North Senatorial zone (Nsukka ) narcissists have grown in leaps and bounds since their brother, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi became  Governor of Enugu State in 20I5 amidst daunting challenges occasioned by the sudden crash in the price of crude oil that drastically affected government's revenue and economy.

Their sense of entitlements and expectations, without considering the availability of funds and consequences of their actions is shocking and baffling. That is why they are not appreciative or enthusiastic of Governor Ugwuanyi's giant strides in Enugu state, especially in  Enugu North Senatorial zone, where his footprints are visible and daring.

They are among the professionals, academics and illiterates. They are few in number and known. They have no political base or value. They are very sadistic, envious, jealous and antagonistic of Governor Ugwuanyi and anybody associated with him other than them. They are vicious enemies within.

They know the truth, but have continued to intentionally and sadistically peddle lies against Governor Ugwuanyi's government and performance in Enugu North Senatorial zone. They malign and impugn Governor Ugwuanyi's personality and government with impunity and at will.

They are social media bandits and tigers. They are selfish, greedy and desperate. They have it- must- be attitude and mentality. They lack character and have no trackrecord or sense of fulfillment. They are not appreciate of anything unless it favours them or they are the one that did it.

They are experts in everything and novices in everything. They are niether altruists nor patriots. They are cynics and skeptics. They are embittered, embattled and enraged. They are fastidious. They are always dismissive and cynically critical of Ugwuanyi and other people's efforts or achievements.

Ugwuanyi's predecessors and political enemies are their heroes and models.

This is even when Ugwuanyi has done in his Senatorial zone more than what his predecessors did in their places. They are still not contented or satisfied or at least appreciative. They have been shamed and named by Governor Ugwuanyi in Enugu North zone, without raising hand or making noise.

They are serial and bad losers. Ahead of 2023 general elections and having lost woefully in the primaries, they are all over social media platforms fuming, licking  their wounds and gnashing their tooth.

They are now social media party bigwigs, emergence and open letter writers, faultfinders, election officials, legal luminaries, critics of Governor Ugwuanyi, his government and party.

There are alternative political platforms for them, but they lack capacity to make headway. That is why they are angrily obsessed with writing and talking about Ugwuanyi's government in badlight at all times even at its twilight.

What a shame to narcissists of no means, value or base in Enugu North Senatorial zone.

Photos: Drama As Human Rights Lawyer, Omoirhobo Shows Up In Court Dressed Like An Olokun-priest

A human right lawyer, Malcolm Moirhobo has staired reaction on social media after he showed up in court dressed as a taditionalist.

The lawyer was dressed in his traditional garb to attend proceedings at the Supreme Court, Abuja on Thursday.

Malcom said he dressed to court in that manner to exercise his fundamental human rights following the judgment of the Supreme Court that allowed all Nigerians to express their way of worship and the use of hijab in schools and public places.

The lawyer, who arrived at the court at about 9:05 am, created a scene in the courtroom when other lawyers who had been seated were taken by surprise to see him robed in traditional attire to look like an herbalist. The lawyer who gained entry into the court was barefooted with feathers attached to his wig.

He was also wearing a gourd on his necklace with cowries and a red wrapper tied around his waist.

He dared the police officers and security guards who approached him to go out saying that he has the right to come to the court in his traditional regalia without any hara§sment in line with the judgment.

Malcom who addressed journalists said, “I am very grateful to the Supreme Court just last week Friday they made a very resounding decision that promotes Section 38 of the constitution. That is our right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion. That we are free to express our way of worship in our schools and in our courts. That decision was reached on Friday and that has encouraged me.

Because I am a traditionalist and this is the way I worship. Based on the decision of the Supreme Court this is how I will be dressing henceforth in court because I am a strong adherent to “Olokun” the god of rivers.”

Road 2023: Pastor Okotie Begs Tinubu, Atiku To Step Down For Him

The Founder of Household of God Church, Reverend Chris Okotie, has asked political parties’ presidential candidates to step down for him to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari.

This is as he also urged Buhari to hand over to him as Interim President in 2023, noting that he was the right person to right the wrongs in the country.

Okotie stated this on Sunday while addressing journalists at his Church, Oregun, Ikeja when celebrating his 63rd birthday anniversary.

He said, “I want to appeal to all presidential candidates to withdraw from the race and allow me to come in as the interim president. I want to implore Asiwaju to support my government for the betterment of the country and I also want to tell Obi that the system that introduced him cannot take him anywhere, because he cannot operate in the system we have now. All the presidential candidates should support me to succeed President Buhari as the interim president.

“We must also rise above tribe and religion because there is an imbalance in the country and we are not practising federalism instead, what we are practising is a presidential system of government. Since 1999, things have been declining because the presidential system of government we are practising has failed us.

“We must get rid of the National and State Assemblies because maintaining each member cost the country billions of naira. Some of the standing committees at both assemblies are not useful to the country, they are only representing themselves, not the populace.

Okotie also proposed that the two national assemblies and ministers be done away with, saying the elites have hijacked Nigeria’s democracy for their interests.

“For the best of the country, both assemblies should be scrapped and the money for maintaining them should be used for something else. What we have in Nigeria today is the government of the party, by the party and for the party.

“Ministers and the Commissioners should also be expunged because Nigeria’s democracy has been hijacked by the elite for their interest and they are deceiving the downtrodden who don’t know anything. And the most important of all is our constitution.

It should be changed to a people-oriented constitution, not the military one we have now. After the change, we can then restructure the country for the better.”

maintained that if he’s made the interim president, his government would be transparent, adding that his administration would redirect the steps of the youth who are internet fraudsters and make better persons.

My Good Friend, Peter Obi Should Wait Till 2027 To Be President Not 2023 – Ex-Governor, Babangida Aliyu

Ex Governor Babangida Aliyu has advised Labour Party’s presidential flag bearer Peter Obi to wait for his turn to be president in 2027 or 2031. Mr Aliyu, a former Niger governor, does not think Nigerians are ready for a president in the mould of Mr Obi.

In an interview with Channels TV, Mr Aliyu described Mr Obi as “a very excellent person” whose entry into the presidential race is “too early.”

“Peter Obi is my good friend. His candidature, in terms of the presidency – I think he will make some name now. But he may be able to make it only in 2027, 2031. But 2023? Too early,” Mr Aliyu said. “Even though the young people might go for him, the name is not dropping everywhere else. I doubt if Nigerians are ready for him now as a presidential person.”

Ejike Mbaka, a fiery Catholic father and spiritual director of the Adoration Ministry, had last week cast aspersion on Mr Obi, calling him stingy and unfit to be Nigeria’s next president.

“If Igbo people are looking for a representative in Nigeria, they are not the kind of person Peter Obi is. Whoever refuses to donate to the church should be the president?” Mr Mbaka pointed out. “It is better to have a president who is a gifted old man than a young man with ‘gum’ hands. Do you want people to starve? If he becomes president, he will close our ministry.”

In May, Mr Obi left the Peoples Democratic Party, having realised that he would not clinch the party’s presidential ticket. He defected to the Labour Party and was made the party’s presidential flag bearer.

Mr Obi is popular with many Nigerian youths on social media platforms, particularly the microblogging site Twitter.

Lately, the former Anambra governor has been tearing at the political leaders in Nigeria, regarding many of them as lunatics who have turned the country into a massive asylum.

“We can’t allow this gangsterism to continue. Nigerians should take back their country. Seventy per cent of those who are in politics today should not have any reason to be there. I have said it, politics in Nigeria is a case where lunatics have taken over the asylum,” said Mr Obi.

He stated this on Sunday at a conference organised by the Revival House of International Church (RHOGIC), Abuja.

The LP presidential candidate is in alliance talks with the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

Specifically, NNPP’s presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso disclosed that his party and LP were in talks to ally ahead of the 2023 presidential elections.

“We are really talking to Peter Obi, or at least saying that the committee is working to look into the matter (and cooperate with him), and friends and family are coming to talk to us about it,” the former Kano governor stated.

Housemaid Who Stangled Ex-governor, Lucky Igbinedion’s Mum Sentenced To Death By Hanging

Justice Efe Ikponmwonba of the Criminal court 1 in Benin city, Edo state, has sentenced Dominion Okoro, the housemaid of late Madam Maria Igbinedion, mother of ex-governor of Edo state, Lucky Igbinedion, to death by hanging for killing the 85-year-old woman before carting away with her jewelry on December 2 at her residence in GRA Benin city.

Okoro who had served as the housemaid for the deceased for years, killed her because she wanted to cart away her money and personal items. When she was arrested, Okoro said her late boss never offended her.

”I k!lled Mama (Madam Maria Igbinedion) to carry her money. She did not offend me. While she was sleeping on her bed, around 12:01 a.m. on December 2, 2021, I used a stool to hit her on the head and she was shouting for help, but only the gateman was around and he did not hear the shout. Mama later d!ed.

I waited till 4 a.m. on December 2, 2021, before leaving the house with Mama’s N100,000, wristwatch, and jewellery. I escaped to Cross River State, but I was later arrested by the police.”

Delivering judgment in the case on Monday, June 20, Justice Ipkonwonba convicted Dominion on all the three counts filed against her. The court sentenced Dominion to d€ath by hanging for m¥rder and robbery with v!olence while she bagged life imprisonment for count two which was for applying harmful substances to the late Madam Igbinedion.

Church Leaders In Ogun Freed By Kidnappers After Collecting, Cigarettes, Foodstuffs, Gin, 1m As Random

Gunmen who stormed the Celestial Church of Christ, Oshofa, Wasimi, in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State last Monday and abducted two leaders of the church have released the victims.

The founder of the church, Oluwatomisin Olugbebi, who disclosed the news of their release on Sunday said the victims were released on Saturday after the armed kidnappers collected rice, beans, cigarettes, gin and N1 million ransom.

It was earlier reported that gunmen in masks and fez caps invaded the church and abducted one of the church leaders known as the Assistant Shepherd (assistant pastor), Oluwaseun Ajose and a Sunday school teacher, Dagunro Ayobami.

According to the church founder, Olugbebi, kidnappers had on Thursday reduced their demand from N50m to N10m.

Then, on Saturday morning, they called and reduced the ransom demand to N1 million and also demanded foodstuffs including rice, beans, cigarettes and gin. The victims were then released after those items and the money were delivered to their abductors.

“They called on Saturday morning and demanded foodstuffs (rice, beans), cigarettes and gin. They said we should pay N1m for the two of them. I pleaded with them that we didn’t even have up to that, but they said they won’t accept anything less than a million.

“When we heard this, the family of the victims sat on how to get the money and they raised a total of N221,000. Thankfully, well-wishers and other church members balanced it up.

“They did not give a specific location where we should drop the money. They asked to speak to the sister of one of the victims and told her to come to a certain location. When she got there, she called them and they told her to give the phone to the bike rider.

“They told the bike rider their location without disclosing it to her. The bike rider then took her to the location where the money and the requested foodstuffs were dropped. After like 10 minutes, they asked her to come and pick them (victims) up at the bus stop,” Olugbebi said.

Also confirming the release of the abducted church leaders, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, said, “They regained their freedom last night (Saturday) due to sustained pressure mounted by the police on the kidnappers.”

Peter Obi Should Be Minister Of Economy, Can’t Win Presidency, He Doesn’t Have Structure – Actress, Regina Daniel Husband, Ned Nwoko Says

Nigerian billionaire Ned Nwoko has said that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi cannot be the next President of Nigeria.

Nwoko, husband to Nollywood actress, Regina Daniel, said this during an interview with BBC Igbo, adding that Obi will change Nigeria as a Minister of Economy.

According to him, Peter Obi is a good man and has the support of Nigerian youths but Labour Party lacks the necessary structure to rule Nigeria.

Nwoko also noted that the population of Nigeria is complex, warning that many things in Nigeria will work against the emergence of a president under the Labour Party.

Nwoko said: “Peter Obi is a good man and has impressed me. When he came to London he came alone. He’s a capitalist and a big-time player in the business world and conservative in the way he handles things.

“I’ll like him back in PDP, he’ll do well as Minister of Economy, he’ll help us turn around Nigeria’s economy.

“Labour Party does not have the structure to win but they have a support base. He’s a popular candidate but cannot become president because he does not have the structure. As a president, you must have the majority of Labour Party in the House of Representatives and Senate.

“Many things in Nigeria will work against the emergence of a president under Labour party, It wouldn’t happen.”

Ned Nwoko added that Peter Obi should not have left the Peoples Democratic Party, and hoped that he returns.

Shina Peller Dumps APC After Losing House Of Reps Return Ticket

Owner of Qulux Night club and a member of the House of Representatives representing the Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency, Shina Peller, has left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The federal lawmaker disclosed this in a letter titled “APC Membership Renouncement,” which he addressed to the Chairman of APC Ward 9, Koso in the Iseyin local government area of Oyo State.

Peller, an entrepreneur, said he had due consultation with his people before taking the decision but failed to disclose the party he would be joining.

He said his people were embarrassed by the “undemocratic acts and decisions “ of some politicians in the state APC chapter.

He failed to clinch the APC senatorial ticket in May, losing to Senator Fatai Buhari who had 570 votes against Peller’s five votes.

That brought his four-year stint at the National Assembly to an end. He had declined to seek a second term in the House of Representatives to honour an agreement to rotate the seat in his constituency.

The letter reads, “I write to formally inform you of the renouncement of my membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I took this decision after due consultation with my people from the Oke Ogun region and beyond who feel humiliated by the undemocratic acts and decisions of some gladiators within Oyo State APC.

“President Muhammadu Buhari preached bottom-to-top approach driven APC, but the undemocratic conduct of some party chieftains particularly in Oyo State has shown that the people from the grassroots and the youth will continue to be at the mercy of the few at the top, who impose their preferred candidate against the wish of the people, as recently witnessed in Oyo North Senatorial District where I belong.

“My people have therefore decided that we withdraw our membership of the APC, and I totally align with them as I delved into politics, not for a selfish reason but for the overall interest of Nigerian youths and the people of Oke Ogun. So. I hereby renounce my membership of the APC.

“Thank you so much.”

Bianca Ojukwu Recounts Encounter With Peter Obi’s ‘Stinginess’

Bianca Ojukwu, the widow of the late Biafran leader, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, has shared the moment, she encountered the ‘stingy’ nature of the Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi.

The Catholic priest and Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, had on Wednesday, described Obi as a stingy man and his comments elicited harsh reactions from his supporters.

In a post on her Facebook page titled, ’On Peter Obi’s supposed ‘Stinginess’…’ the matriarch, recalled when Obi, then, a governor of Anambra State, visited Texas and had refused to buy a designer suit for an event instead opting for a $220 suit.

She said, “The suit that was a perfect match for him was a dapper Tom Ford suit with a price tag of 3,985 dollars plus tax. He did the calculations and told me ‘Do you know how many students this amount of money can train in Nigeria?

“To cut the story short, he refused to pay what he termed ’that outrageous price’ for the Tom Ford suit and that was how we ended up at Steinmart where he agreed to pay a more acceptable price of 220 dollars, tax inclusive, for a basic men’s suit which he was happy to wear to that evening’s event.

“What struck me, was that as we were on the way to the airport to see him off for his return flight back to Nigeria, he reached for his pocket where he brought out an envelope of crisp hundred dollar bills. The amount in the envelope was 3,800 dollars.

“He said ‘Anyanwu, this is the balance of the money I would have paid for the ‘Ford’ suit. If the label on the suit was ‘Peter Obi’, I am wondering if anybody in America will pay that amount for it. I have deducted the amount we paid for that suit we eventually bought. Please use this balance for your Charity foundation to help those in actual need. I trust you will do so’. We all laughed heartily. Vintage Peter Obi!”

Mrs Ojukwu went on to list the beneficiaries of Obi’s gift via her foundation.

I Will Reenact My Dad’s 1993 Victory Next Year – MKO Abiola Son, Kola Abiola Vows

Mr Kola Abiola, presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) said on Wednesday in Abuja that the party would win the 2023 presidential election.

Kola, first son of Chief MKO Abiola said PRP’s victory would be synonymous with that of his deceased father on June 12, 1993.

He said this when he and governorship candidates of the party received their Certificates of Return from the chairman of the party, Alhaji Falalu Bello.

Abiola who noted that it would be 30 years in 2023 since his late father won the presidential election, said “there is going to be a repeat in 2023.’’

“It reminds me of 1993. A lot of people came out for the first time to vote because of MKO. We are going to have a repeat of that in 2023.

“If we can win it then, we should win it now,’’ he said.

He said that the biggest role the PRP would play at the general elections was to serve as a bridge for current generation of Nigerian youths.

“We are going to bring the younger generation into politics, governance and leadership.

“I’m appealing to youths to regard us as the vehicle of change; we should make sure that at the next election, we have the highest voter turnout.

“By this, we will make your voices and number count,’’ he said.

“This is the only party that doesn’t have any encumbrances. We will use that to build the future of Nigeria.

“We are a national party. To everybody’s surprise, we had 3,625 delegates at the primary elections.

“We are present in every local government area. We have 22 candidates for governorship elections and we have more than 500 candidates vying for other different offices.

“In the history of the PRP, this is the largest so far till date,’’ he said.

PRP’s gubernatorial candidate in Cross River, Mr Usani Usani, urged the electorate to “assess who they want and vote for that person irrespective of party.

“There are no two major parties as insinuated in some quarters. Nigeria has 18 registered political parties which are all active.

“I believe PRP has got what it takes to rule this country,’’ he said.

Earlier, Bello said the PRP is ready to offer leadership at all levels.

“We can compete with all parties to give the nation a new lease of life. Our candidates will win in free and fair elections,’’ he stressed.

Khadija, who sustained injuries in the accident, died in the hospital on Thursday morning.

The Deputy Governor’s children were involved in an accident along Maiduguri-Kano highway on Saturday while travelling.

While her seven-year-old younger brother who was named after Governor Mai Mala Buni died during the accident, Khadija had sustained injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Kano State.

Siyama, before her death, was a Senior Secondary II student of Essence International School, Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

As at the time of filing this report, her remains had been laid to rest according to a statement by the Press Secretary to her father, Hussaini Mai Suleh, which stated that her burial held at 4pm on Thursday at Mai Fune Emir’s in Damagum.

Popular Islamic Preacher, Sheikh Masussuka Warns APC, Says Muslim-Muslim Presidential Ticket Violate Islam

Sheikh Yahya Masussuka, who is a popular Islamic preacher from Northern Nigerian has rejected the call for a Muslim-Muslim ticket, being canvassed by some stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

The cleric declared that those pushing for a Muslim-Muslim ticket are agents of injustice and enemies of peace, as according to him, they are acting at variance with the tenets of Islam.

Reacting to these developments, Masussuka in a viral video, insisted that competence, justice and physical fitness were the qualities outlined in the Islamic traditions to guide Muslims in choosing a leader.

The Sheikh argued that in Nigeria, going by the demographics of religion it was impossible for either Muslims or Christians to do it alone in the political sphere.

He said, “it is another political season in Nigeria and we have the honour to give guidelines; we are taught by our statutes that justice precedes prayer either in the Islamic or Christian faith.

“I’m sending this sermon to both Muslim and Christian listeners, urging you to avoid either Muslim or Christian clerics who emphasise religion in their divisive sermons for political gains.

“Don’t be deceived, in Islam competence and justice form the yardstick and not religious practices. Those advocating Muslim-Muslim ticket for Nigeria’s nest presidency are doing a disservice to our religion, because Islam promotes justice and peace.

“I make bold to say this because Nigeria is a heterogeneous country with Muslims and Christians represented in large numbers. It is therefore unthinkable for anyone to contemplate fielding a Muslim-Muslim ticket and think he’s being Islamic in conduct.

“Nigeria needs competent and just leaders who would do justice to all manner of people regardless of religious considerations”, he said.

According to multiple report making the rounds, ace Nollywood actor, Moses Armstrong has been arrested by the Akwa Ibom state police command for allegedly defiling a 16years old minor.

Mr Emeka described the case as “a very serious one” as it is being handled by the first lady of the state Martha Udom Emmanuel through her Family Empowerment and Youth Re-Orientation Path Initiative.

The AGN president added that the accusation was a sad development involving one of their own but the organsation will not stand for such a crime.

“To get involved with a child as young as 16yrs, is not something I and the association I represent, would not stand for and this is a very sad development involving a member of ours, but I wouldn’t want to comment any further on this case,” Mr Rollas said.

“As we chat, he is still in police custody,” the source disclosed.

Moses Armstrong is a special assistant to the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel.

More Hunger Looms As Marketers Alert Nigerians, Says Diesel May Sell For N1500 In Two Weeks

The Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association’s National President, Bennett Korie, has said that if drastic measures are not taken to curtail the challenges facing importers in Nigeria, the price of diesel might hit N1,500 in the next two weeks.

Korie while speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday said that about 75 per cent of filling stations across the country are currently out of business due to their inability to purchase diesel required to power their tankers and transport Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, to their various outlets.

He stated that the only solution to the current challenge is for the Federal Government to raise the pump price of petrol a little in order to reduce the huge foreign exchange used in PMS imports.

“If you go round now, you will see that about 75 per cent of filling stations in Nigeria have gone out of business. There is no diesel to take fuel to their stations. All of them are going down.

“And it is not that the fuel is not there, but the cost of bringing it to the stations is too high. We know that the crisis between Ukraine and Russia has contributed badly, but the government has to do something fast, otherwise we are going to buy diesel in the next two weeks at N1000 to N1500/litre.”

He therefore advised the federal government to increase the price of fuel so that the savings would enable the Central Bank of Nigeria have enough foreign exchange.

“The only way out, if you want to know, is that they (the government) should increase the price of fuel a little to reduce the money spent on PMS subsidy.

“I know Nigerians will not be happy to hear this, but this is the only solution. They should increase the price of fuel a little so that the savings will enable the Central Bank of Nigeria to have enough foreign exchange”

“You and I know that we import everything now in Nigeria. Diesel is an imported product and it is fully deregulated. So the importers are not getting dollars at the official CBN rate to import diesel. Everybody is going to the black market to get dollars to import their products and so you expect the price of diesel to be high.”

Korie suggested that the Federal government needs to reduce the rate at which it spends foreign exchange on PMS imports as it will help other businessmen who import diesel to bring in products at low prices.

“So you need to increase fuel price a little in order to ensure that the dollars spent in importing petrol is reduced and there will be enough Forex for importers of diesel and this will cut down the price of diesel,” he said.

Speaking further, he said the reason for fuel scarcity especially Abuja is as a result of the high cost of diesel.

“The reason why you are having scarcity of petroleum products particularly in Abuja is as a result of the high cost of diesel. The price of diesel today in the market is N850/litre. You will also agree with me that the money being paid as bridging claims to transporters is not enough.

“The price is N850/litre and you are giving your driver 1,200 litres from Lagos to Abuja, if you do the calculation you will find out that the landing cost (for transporting the fuel) is about N40/litre.

“So if you add that to PMS, buying at the depot price and selling here, it is too high. So if your cost of bringing it in is at N40/litre and you bought it at N155/litre, when you add this you will get N195/litre. But you are to sell at N165/litre. So who will do that kind of business? It is already a loss-making business.”

Breaking: Atiku Picks Ifeanyi Okowa As Vice-presidential Candidate For 2023

Former vice president and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has chosen Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta as his running mate ahead of the 2023 presidential election

Mr Okowa. governor since 2015, was chosen from the ranks of serving governors and credentialed politicians in the South-East and South-South regions.

Mr Okowa was made the ultimate nominee after a fierce contest with Governor Nyesom Wike of Delta. The choice was believed to be in the best interest of the party as it seeks a return to power next year.

confirming the report, Atiku took to his official facebook page to announce Mr Okowa as his running mate.

“I am delighted to announce Governor Ifeanyi A. Okowa as my Vice Presidential candidate. I look forward to travelling our great country together, engaging with all Nigerians and building a shared future of peace, unity, and prosperity for all. As One We Can Get It Done. #OneNigeria. -AA”

However, Mr Abubakar’s allies said he picked Mr Okowa because he promised to run a campaign based strictly on issues critical to Nigerians, and Mr Wike might derail that approach with his combative nature.

The candidate was also keen on having a running mate to bridge the enthusiasm gap between the South-South and South-East,.

Mr Wike had been selected as the preferred nominee two days ago by a panel of PDP governors and politicians.

Photos: See Dilapidated Classrooms In Enugu State Where Teacher, Student Battle Snakes To Study

According to report making the rounds, the pupils and teachers in Community Primary School, Onugba Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State have decried the poor state of the school as snakes constantly threaten their studies.

The said school is reported to have two blocks of six classrooms has only three functional classrooms with over 250 pupils. The rest of the three classrooms are totally dilapidated. It can be best described as a death trap.

Further report aslo shows the school one section of the school classroom had big cracks on the walls; the ceilings had collapsed while the floors had also cracked.

One of the teachers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that apart from the fact that the school did have enough classrooms for study and other social amenities, like toilets and water; snake constantly threatened both teachers and pupils because of the poor environment.

The teacher said: “The problems we are having in this school are very many but the most important one is that the pupils have no environment conducive to learning as they are supposed to have.

“Learning is supposed to be in a conducive and secure environment. There is no classroom, no seat for the teachers and for the pupils. We have three classroom blocks; the floors are completely broken, and beyond that, the classrooms are not ceiled, leaving our pupils to be congested in one class room.

“In CPS Onugba Nike, five classes were packed in one class – nursery one, two and three; and Primary one and Primary two. They were learning in one class. While primary three and primary four are staying in one class to study. The classes are very congested and secondly there are no teachers. We have only five teachers teaching over 250 pupils, that is 50 pupils for one teacher.”

The teacher however, lamented that one person taught the entire nursery from nursery one to three, while another teacher takes primary one and two with different schemes.

“Even the pupils themselves are complaining. They are asking how come they are staying in the same classroom even after the third term examination when they did not fail. You have gone around, you saw human waste all over because there are no toilet facilities, no water. The teachers have no place to even urinate let alone answer calls of nature. Because there is no security, villagers always come here to defecate,” the teacher lamented.

However, it was reported that the State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB) gave the school’s headmistress N2million to rehabilitate some classrooms but the money was insufficient because of the magnitude of decay.

"The government approved N2million but only released N1.5 million and that money has finished. The money couldn’t even re-roof the school buildings which are leaking water all over. We are asking the villagers to help us so that the children can stay at least in a manageable place to learn.

"Because of the dilapidated state of the school parents are no longer bringing their children to the school. In short, on several occasions snakes had entered the classroom and chased pupils away. In the headmistress office snakes come there often. Even adults can never go to a place that is not good to study, let alone these little kids that can contract disease because of the poor environment.”

When the State Chairman of ENSUBEB, Chief Ikeji Asogwa, was contacted on telephone, he did not pick his calls as the phone rang out.

Also, efforts to get the reaction of the state Commissioner for Education, Prof Uche Eze were unsuccessful as he could not answer.

Road To 2023: It’s Your Turn To Be President – Kingibe Tells Tinubu

Former running mate to the late Chief Moshood Abiola, popularly known as MKO Abiola, Babagana Kingibe drump support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s next President.

Speaking in a meeting with the former Lagos state governor, Tinubu at the weekend, Kingibe said the former Lagos governor will be Nigeria’s next president because of his sacrifices.

“Eyin lo kan (It’s your turn),” he said in Yoruba.

“You will move from Jagaban of Borgu to Jagaban of Nigeria; from Asiwaju of Lagos to Asiwaju of Nigeria. For all your sacrifices, for all your effort, God will reward you this time.”

Recall that Tinubu while speaking in Abeokuta, Ogun State a few days before the APC presidential primary election sparked controversy when he said ‘emi lo kan’ (it’s my turn).

I Dumped PDP For SDP Because Of Fraud In The Party – Segun Oni Says

The Social Democratic Party candidate for the June 18 Ekiti governorship election, Segun Oni says he dumped the PDP because the party condoned cheating.

Oni, a former Ekiti governor, is seeking to become Governor Kayode Fayemi’s successor on the platform of SDP.

The 67-year-old politician spoke on Sunday night at a debate organised by Channels TV in Ado-Ekiti.

“I don’t like cheating. I detest cheating and don’t collaborate with cheats. I don’t like people to cheat. If I see a party that has no respect for its own rules. I see it as not my type of (political) party,” Mr Oni explained. “I contested the PDP primary, and it was supposed to be a secret ballot, and the world saw how it became open to the extent that one man was being shown every ballot.”

The SDP governorship candidate added, “I believe if the party meant business, it should have said no. If it aspires to rule Nigeria and put confidence in people, it would have said no.”

Mr Oni had, on February 5, dumped PDP after losing the governorship primary in Ekiti to Bisi Kolawole, former Governor Ayo Fayose’s anointed candidate.

Mr Kolawole was declared PDP governorship candidate after polling 671 votes to beat Mr Oni, his closest rival, who scored 330 votes.

Mr Oni was the former governor of Ekiti on the platform of the PDP between May 29, 2007, and October 15, 2010, before a court judgment later removed him in favour of the then-candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Kayode Fayemi.

Mr Oni later defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress after the party’s metamorphosis from ACN to support the second term bid of Fayemi.

He, however, returned to PDP in 2020 after he fell

"My mission is to make Enugu State a preferred destination for investment, business, tourism and living." Barr. Peter Mbah (Enugu State PDP Governorship Flag Bearer)

Enugu State will soon witness a radical disruptive administration. That is the promise of the 2023 standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Peter Mbah. The technocrat who thinks out of the box has excelled in both private and public life. In this interview, he explains among others why he decided to join politics after leading his company, Pinnacle, to become one of the oil industry’s leading players. Pinnacle is number one in the oil and gas downstream sector and owns one of the largest oil facilities in Nigeria today, with a world-class storage facility that has enabled the industry to cut down immensely on costs and turn-around time in operation.

*Not many knew you before you emerged the standard-bearer of the PDP in Enugu State. Many would like to know where you were coming from?*

I am Peter Mbah , from a town called Owoh in Nkanu East in Enugu State. Nkanu East is a local government. I am a lawyer by training; I trained in the United Kingdom. I did my LLB in the United Kingdom, came back and attended the Nigerian Law school and got called to the Nigerian Bar. I went on to do my LLM at the Lagos State University. I did my LLM in maritime and commercial law. In Maritime law, I had bias for oil and gas. So, my inroad into the oil and gas industry is not by accident. It is something that I had always wanted to do. Then I went on to earn an MBA at IESE Business School, Barcelona, Spain, University of Navarra. It is one of the leading business schools in the world. They have continued to remain number one in the last eight years ahead of Havard, Standford and the rest of other business schools. They are actually the parent school of the Lagos Business School. They were part and parcel of the Lagos Business School. I am also an alumnus of the Lagos Business School. I did my Chief Executive programme there. I did a post graduate study in strategy and innovation at the University of Oxford beside business schools. I have attended a lot of executive programmes both at Harvard and Stanford. So, I started what you see here today sometime in 2008. We started the Pinnacle Oil and Gas as another oil business. We started off in a one bedroom studio apartment; three of us. I had my secretary and somebody who ran errands for me. We have grown that business from one bedroom studio apartment to where you are today, the headquarters of Pinnacle. For those of you who may not know, Pinnacle is today the leading company in the industry. We are number one in the oil and gas downstream sector. The downstream sector is a mature sector and market where you have all the established companies-the big players, Mobil, Connoil, Oando and the rest of them. They all play in this space. We came in from that zero base of nil reckoning and we grew the company to number one today by market share and revenue. That did not happen by accident. It happened because of the passion we have for excellence –focus, creativity and innovation. Obviously, we did not grow the company incrementally, otherwise, all we would have done is to do catch up. We would not be where we are today if all we had done was to grow incrementally. We knew we wanted to become a dominant player and for a market that is already mature, for you to displace the dominant players already there, you have to do something creative.

*So, what did you do?*

You have to think outside the box which was what we did in Pinnacle. We looked at the space and we found out that there are compelling business problems and we needed to provide solutions to them. So, we looked at the operations space and we noticed that what we were doing in that space was suboptimal. We had a lot of multiple handlings. We had a situation where we had to bring products in large tankers and those large tankers could not go into our terminals, into the jetties to discharge because of the draught restrictions. So, what we did was to say to ourselves, how do we eliminate the multiple handlings because those multiple handlings in the maritime world, you pay per minute. The hiring of vessels is done on an hourly basis. So, if you have to keep a big tanker offshore and you have to hire a smaller vessel to go and pick products from the big tanker and take to your terminal, you are actually incurring multiple costs. This is because you are incurring the cost of keeping the big tanker, the demurrage is on you; the cost of hiring the shuttle vessels to go and lighter the big tanker is also on you. These created a lot of operational inefficiencies. So, we felt that there must be better ways of doing things and we then started thinking about solutions to the problems; how do we ensure that we take out the cost of keeping the mother vessel and take out the cost of hiring the shuttle vessels. What we did was to come up with a design of a terminal where those big vessels can berth without bringing them to the shore so that they can discharge from that location all the way to the tank farms. So, we built an offshore intake facility; what you could describe as an offshore port in an open sea. We built a terminal and had to run a subsea 40 kilometer network of pipelines all the way from the terminal to the location of the offshore terminal. So, what that did in effect was that it enabled us to bring in those large tankers that ordinarily would have taken you 30 days to empty. This is because for each voyage, you spend like eight days and typically, we do four voyages to empty a tanker of 60,000 metric tonnes. But what we designed and built offshore, we were able to discharge that same cargoe in the terminal within 48 hours. So, what used to take our competitors 30 days to do, we turned it around in 48 hours. Since September last year, we became the market leader in terms of volume and market share. We currently have 23 per cent market share. Perhaps the next company to Pinnacle has five per cent. So, these attributes that were driven by me also reflected in my sojourn when I had a four year stint in the public sector. I worked at various times as Chief of Staff and Commissioner for finance. As a Commissioner for finance, some of you would know that I am old in the media. I won an award then as one of the outstanding finance commissioners in the country given to me by Newswatch. Again, it was because of what we did; we got into the system and noticed a lot of suboptimisations. We disrupted those suboptimisations and ensured things were done optimally. We created value for our people. We came in and noticed that the budget at the time did not reflect government priorities. It was largely done in an incremental basis. We developed an economic empowerment strategy that reflected government priorities and we had to allocate funds to those government priorities. We started our budget on a zero base capturing all the government priorities. We looked at all the critical sectors. Some of them could not be contained within the budget cycle. We had to design a midterm expenditure framework which allowed us to deploy funds to that sector in order to achieve our output. So, we did all those things also mindful of the passion we have for excellence. So, what has taken me into this new phase of my life which is to serve our people as their governor starting from next year, is largely again driven by my vision and mission for my people. My mission essentially is to deliver a quality people-focused governance and to make Enugu State the preferred destination for investment, business, tourism and living. I envision an Enugu State that will be one of the top three states in this country and our aim is to achieve a zero percent rate in our poverty headcount index. We also have a clear governance philosophy but like I said earlier, this is not my day to begin to unveil my manifesto. We also believe that Enugu State has witnessed an appreciable growth on account of prudent and creative management of our resources particularly in the last seven years of this administration. There has been a buildup of new infrastructure and maintenance of the existing facilities. Enugu as most of you already know, discharges its obligations to our teeming civil servants. We are also today arguably the safest and most peaceful state in the country. And you know there cannot be any sustainable development without peace and the current administration has invested hugely in making sure that Enugu continues to be safe and peaceful. You hear about the South East and the commotion going on here and all that but it is almost like Enugu is insulated from all that. Those things do not happen by accident. It is also a deliberate strategy that this current administration has taken to ensure people of Enugu State continue to live in peace and safety. So, to sustain these achievements and also to build on it, require more than just having a mere appreciation of the status quo; it takes a commitment for one to harness the human and material resources of the state. It requires someone with a good head; someone whose past record both in the private and public sectors cannot be questioned. I think that essentially is what is driving the kind of support we are getting across stakeholders and the leadership of our party. We have identified that, in order for us to take our state and be able to compete and achieve this sort of record that we are talking about. I want to grow our economy to become one of the top three in this country. Enugu State’s GDP currently is at $4.4 billion annually. That is our current GDP size. We are saying that we want to grow that economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion. This is because the three top states in the country today are Lagos which has a GDP of about $37 billion, second is Rivers State with a GDP of about $27 billion and the third is Delta with a GDP of about $22 billion. We want to in the next four to eight years be able to grow our GDP from $4.4 billion to $30 billion. That is not something you can achieve by growing incrementally. Refer to the background I gave, the private sector; that when we came out, our ambition was to dominate the industry and we knew we could not achieve that by growing incrementally. When you talk about incremental growth, you might be looking at a growth rate of about five to six percent annually. That would never take you to becoming the top three states in this country. So, what we want to do is to achieve a quantum leap, to leapfrog and that can only happen through disruptive innovation, creative and radical innovation. How do you essentially make Enugu State the preferred destination where businesses find attractive to come and invest, where investors are queuing with their funds to invest, where tourists are all running to because that is a safe haven and they all have their attractions to visit. I think that requires getting a lot of things right. And one that stands out is the ease of doing business which is something the state is already doing very well. We intend to build on that. We intend to make sure that businesses have the ease of setting up in Enugu; ease of procuring their construction permits; procuring their property registration and most importantly, the enforcement of contracts. And that would obviously require us to strengthen our institutions, judiciary and security. So, we are poised to doing that.

Initially when you joined the race, leaving such a flourishing company like Pinnacle, how did you feel knowing the caliberof opponents up against you like the former Deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu?*

When I made my introductory remarks, I talked about what one was driven by. We have different values that drives us in life. Some are driven by extrinsic values; by this I mean things that are materialistic. You could spend a lot of time dwelling on how much output you are able to get from a particular decision you have to make. Some are driven by intrinsic values. That speaks to those decisions you make in life that your drivers are essentially how satisfied you are in it. Assuming you have a job offer somewhere, you may decide to stay put where you are earning less than move to a place where you are getting more. This is because your drive for making that decision is not expensive; it is not the money but the satisfaction you get; the people you work with; people around you. You wake up in the morning and you look forward to going to that office. That is intrinsic. So, if you remain where you are, it is because of the satisfaction you are deriving from the place. And there are people in life that are driven by transcendent values. I think that is where I fall in and that is the feeling that drove my going into this race. Transcendent in the sense that it transcends self; it is no more about how much satisfaction you are getting; how much material things you are exposed to. It transcends you and you are thinking about how your work and decision would impact on the third party. So, it is no longer about the self; it is about others. I think that is what essentially drove me into this race. The feeling is largely about how can provide solutions with all that is going on in this country; we feel the desire that perhaps the solution may not necessarily come from the centre. It may be strengthening the subunits, making sure that Enugu is doing very well, Lagos is doing very well and that other states are strong. If we are able to get 15 or more other states of the federation well strengthened and doing very well, we are done and fine as a nation. People would find Nigeria attractive to come and live as a nation. So, I am such an advocate that our solution may not necessarily come from the centre. It may well be that if we get the subunits right, then that would rub off on what happens at the centre. It may not be a top bottom solution but could be a bottom top solution. That is my strong belief and what got me into this race.

What made Ekweremadu to say he was not going on with his ambition and that he would now support you after you emerged?

First of all, I find the position he took very honourable. One of the things that Ekweremadu and I share in common is the passion for the development of our people. I have engaged him privately; we talked about our people and how we can improve the lives of our people and he also noticed that I am passionate about the development of our people. We had always said to ourselves that this is not going to be a bitter contest and that however this pendulum swings, that we would be fine. This is because our interests are largely our people; it is not about what he or I would eat as individuals. So, it did not come to me as a surprise that he gave his support and to have his people support me, and that he said he was no longer pursuing his ambition. I think that like every other clime where you have parties conducting their primaries, the objective of those people who are involved in that race is that it is obvious to them from the onset that it is just one of them that would emerge as the flag bearer. And what you notice is once someone begins to gain traction or becomes a leading person in the poll, what you notice is that there will be some horse-trading, negotiation going on between the campaign management of the guy leading the poll and the guy who believes his popularity is waning, to say look, I have this beautiful idea, how can you guys incorporate it in your programmes; my support base is interested in this project, can you guys incorporate it, I will lend my support. So, you see all those kinds of negotiations going on. The recent one that happened was in the US between Bernie Sanders and Biden. It took Biden agreeing to implement some of the programmes Bernie has in medicare and students’ loan for him to come out openly and declare open support for Biden. This is where people genuinely want to serve their people and all they are doing is to see how they can integrate things that their support base is passionate about into the winning team programme. That is essentially what you do in primaries and largely what you witness also in what has played out with my other colleagues.

What are the factors that will shape your choice of a running mate?

Again, I think that I am not one of those who subscribe to the idea that your running mate should be like a spare tyre. I think a running mate should be somebody who should bring value to the team and who should also be capable of governing in the event that you are not there. That would really be the factors that I would be considering in the value proposition of my running mate; someone who is capable of fitting into my shoes if anything should happen to me.

We know you are likely to win; what is the assurance that in future, there will be no predecessor/successor crisis?

I think one of the greatest achievements we have had in Enugu State is that since the beginning of the Fourth republic, since 1999, we have remained a PDP state. In the last 23 years, Enugu State has been governed by the PDP. The state of our union continues to be stronger and stronger. That is what we are experiencing here in this company. It is like a family affair. It is like going into a boardroom to have a dialogue and coming out to say this person should go and represent us in the assignment that we have all agreed should be executed. I do not expect any predecessor/successor crisis.

After you picked the governorship ticket of your party, you immediately reached out to other aspirants; what is the level of response from them?

I think I am humbled by the responses I have received thus far from my colleagues. It has just been so humbling. I cannot think of any exception; all the aspirants that ran the race with me, we have reached out to one another; they have sent their congratulatory messages and declared support. We are intact and the state of our union as a party continues to be stronger. We treated everything that happened as brotherly affairs and we continue to foster the unity as a party. The responses have been great and we continue to forge that alliance.

Why do you want to leave this size of business for politics?

You look at the state of business and the size of business I do and you would truly wonder why on earth would anybody leave this size of business and at this time of growth to do what I am going in to do in an uncharted waters of politics. I earlier talked about the values that drive people. But above all, I don’t know how much you hear or know before today about Pinnacle; we are typically not very loud people but the truth is that we are the industry number one. Any player in any industry that is at the state where Pinnacle is, the CEO of that company would never want to resign. That is because it is the desire of any CEO to play a leadership role in the industry. We play such a leadership role that if anything affects Pinnacle, you would feel it in the market place because of the share volume we control. In an established market like the downstream, to have a 23 per cent market share is no mean feat. It is major and what that means is that as a CEO, I look forward to coming to the office everyday. I know that when I cough, the market will quiver. So, it is a lot of sacrifice and even what we do here in terms of revenue is way beyond what a state like Enugu does. There is no way I could have been driven by extrinsic values to go into where I am going now. We are in good stead. I am not leaving Pinnacle at a point where it is shaking. I am leaving Pinnacle where the ovation is at its loudest; everybody would wish to be in a position that I am right now. That is the real difference and this is almost like a baby I have nurtured in the past 14 years and you can imagine that it is also somewhat emotional for me to even make that decision to leave. But I think that the driver for me is beyond myself. If you realise that there are certain decisions you take and you go back to your room and you cry, then you wake up and you realise that it is for the betterment of the larger society, you say okay, you have to do it.
