ENUGU STATE MEDICAL STUDENTS ASSOCIATION HONOURS SENATOR ABBA MORO

Enugu State Medical Students Association (ESMSA), on Wednesday honoured Distinguished Senator Abba Moro with Award of Excellence, in recognition of his positive impact towards the health sector development and tremendous impact in infrastructural/human capital development in Benue South Senatorial District.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the President of the Association, Ekwueme Chinaza Ndubuisi, said they had watched from afar Senator Moro's developmental efforts, especially in the health sector, and felt obliged to come and honour him. He said the Senator's Bill seeking the establishment of a Federal University of Health Sciences, his health centres across the Senatorial District, his human-capital developmental efforts and all that the Senator has been doing for his people and Nigerians at large eminently qualified him for the recognition.

Ekwueme said they were pleased with Senator Moro and urged him not to be distracted but keep working for humanity.

In his response, Senator Moro who became emotional said he wondered why and how students would come all the way from Enugu State to honour him.

His words, "From afar you noticed my humble efforts in the health sector and infrastructural development. I'm humbled by this honour and I must thank you so sincerely."

Senator Moro hinted that he had plans to build a medical centre in each of the nine LGAs of Benue South. He said he had already constructed two, in Okpokwu and Ado, and construction of additional two, in Ohimini and Oju, to commence soon. He also hinted that he was talking to a consortium to build a 400-bed medical facility with all the paraphernalia of a standard hospital in Benue South, to attend to serious medical needs of his people.

The Senator charged the young medical students to believe in Nigeria and ensure they graduate well to fill the widening gap being created by lack of qualified medical personnel in the country orchestrated by mass exodus of medical practitioners out of the country.

Other members of the delegation included the General Secretary, Nebuwa Obinna Olisaemeka; Isiwu Henry Chibuike (Minister of Health) and Onoja Jideofor (Minister for Power).
