The Department of State Services has described the outcome of the investigation into the activities of the terrorists’ negotiator and publisher of Desert Herald newspaper, Tukur Mamu as shocking.
Mamu had been negotiating with the terrorists who kidnapped passengers on a Kaduna-bound train in an attack on March 28, 2022.
In a statement released on Sunday, spokesman for the DSS, Peter Afunanya, urged the Nigerian public to allow its agents to do their job, adding that the court would determine Mamu’s fate.
“The Department of State Services has followed, with keen observation, overzealous comments by sections of the public in view of issues relating to the arrest and investigation of Tukur Mamu.
‘’The Service wishes that it’s not distracted by some of the skewed narratives pervading the media space.
“Instead, it requests to be left alone to concentrate on the ongoing investigations, the outcomes of which have remained mind-boggling.”
It was learnt that DSS operatives laid siege to the home and office of Mamu last week.
A family source said about 50 heavily armed DSS personnel stormed the house around 12:30 am and turned the house and office upside down as they searched the entire compound.
“We were awakened by the pandemonium that announced the arrival of the officers who came in a large motorcade and were armed to the teeth.
“They conducted a random search in the house and his office but nothing incriminating or suspicious was found.
“But they seized all our handheld gadgets and computers. We are still in trauma and shock over this intimidation. We call on conscientious Nigerians not to allow this injustice to prevail,’ the source had said.
A Kaduna-based controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has condemned the DSS for arresting and detaining Mamu, accusing the agency of being a terrorist organisation.
