The Nigeria Police Force, has asked Nigerians and particularly Lagos State residents to bring up any case against a loyalist of the “president-elect” Bola Tinubu, Mr Musilu Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo, if they have evidence to prove that he attacked South-Easterners in Lagos during the 2023 general elections.
Recall that MC Oluomo had before the March 18 governorship election issued a threat to Igbo people to stay at home during the governorship election in Lagos if they do not want to vote for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the state.
MC Oluomo had in a viral video said, “It is not a fight. It is not wahala (a problem). What do we want to correct it? Our PVC. And we will stand there. Yoruba should get there first and should vote first.
“When we finish voting, we’ll be watching because we have begged you and you said you have heard. If you make a mistake, you will understand. Please tell them, we have begged them. If they don’t vote for us, it is not a fight. Tell them that, Chukwudi’s mother, if you don’t for us, sit down at home. Do you understand? Sit down at home.”
Though he later said it was a joke, many Igbo residents were reportedly attacked and prevented from casting their votes on the governorship election day with several videos and photos of attacks and brutalised voters shared on the social media.
Many Nigerians, especially from the opposition parties, have been calling for the arrest and prosecution of MC Oluomo but the police had said that it had no substantial evidence to prove that the Tinubu loyalist carried out attacks on Igbos in Lagos.
Reacting to the calls for MC Oluomo’s arrest and prosecution over the attacks, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in the early hours of Tuesday morning said, “You can take the case of attack up with MC if you have a case or evidence of attacks against him. Many people and lawyers, even the deputy gov of Lagos, have said it severally.
“He has no immunity, so if you have a case of attack against him, take it up. There is no need to pass judgment or do trail on Twitter. Very simple. Many of you just follow others to raise this issue on Twitter.”
