After arresting his former commissioner for works, the Kano Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has invited Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate past governor of the state, over a viral video of him allegedly receiving kickbacks from contractors.
Mr Ganduje famously appeared in a series of videos released by a Nigerian newspaper, Daily Nigerian, in 2018 of him receiving ‘kickback’ in dollars.
The governor has since debunked the video as “cloned” and threatened a lawsuit against its publisher.
But in a statement shared among reporters on Thursday, the state anti-graft authority said it had extended an invitation to the former governor to appear before the commission.
The statement, which was issued by the PCACC’s spokesperson, Kabir Abba Kabir, quoted the commission’s chair Rimingado, to have said this while he appeared as a guest on Channels TV’s LunchTime Politics programme on Thursday.
“I have signed a letter to invite him for questioning at the commission next week because this is what the law says and we will provide ample opportunity for him to defend himself.
“There is what the law provides, the law is coercive in nature, it compels obedience. The law doesn’t lobby you to come and do certain things. There are procedures and we will follow all the necessary steps to do what is needful.” Mr Rimingado said.
The Kano anti-corruption agency had arrested a former commissioner of works and infrastructure, Idris Saleh, over an alleged N1 billion fraud.
Mr Saleh had served under the administration of Mr Ganduje.
