Adebayo Shittu Counters Oshiomhole On Call For INEC Chairman’s Resignation

The Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, says the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has no moral right to attack the INEC chairman.

Shittu stated this while addressing journalists on Monday at his home in Ibadan.
The minister’s ambition to become the governor of Oyo State on the platform of the ruling  APC was shattered as the Oshiomhole-led party disqualified him from contesting.

Oshiomhole had questioned Shittu’s governorship ambition after the minister was reported by an online newspaper Premium Times to have skipped the mandatory National Youth Service Corps programme.

Shittu, during his chat with journalists on Monday, also rejected calls for the removal of Mahmood Yakubu as the INEC chairman.

He said the removal of Yakubu due to INEC’s postponement of the general election may cause more havoc to the commission.

Yakubu has been criticised by many Nigerians, with some calling for his resignation.

Shittu said: “When Oshiomhole supervised those party primaries elections, which can be described as most horrible and corrupt in the history of the party, who called for his resignation?

“I will not support such call for the resignation of the INEC chairman. To err is human. We have not seen any political motivation as to what has happened in INEC.

“If Oshiomhole calls for the resignation of the INEC chairman, he should also be preparing to resign as chairman of APC for conducting primaries marred by irregularities, and even accused of corruption in its conduct. Did anybody ask him to resign for the horrible management of primary elections under his watch?
